VEDR – Chapter 22

The Birthday Celebration of the Duke of Fritillaria 13

The moment they heard my spell, my brother and Lakash looked back at me in astonishment.

Well, you know.

I had never used wind magic before, so it was within my expectation they’d be surprised at what I suddenly said.

But strangely enough, I myself had not even considered the possibility that I could use wind magic at all.

The moment I infused magic in my voice, my whole body perceived that I could use wind magic.

Consequently, a swirling wind churned out from my palm, causing the falling demons to levitate.

In that state, I moved them several meters to the side.

I was worried that if I threw the demons out at a high altitude, they might slide sideways through the air and land at a different point, so I lowered them at a height of only a meter or so ――― which was right above the muddy red water ――― Then I released the spell.

The snake-shaped demons sank into the water with a splash, and hurriedly tried to swim to the surface of the water. However, in the red water―――small red aquatic creatures that gathered together so that they resembled red water began to haunt them.

“Shasha―――!!!”

In an instant, the demons hissed in agony, but the red creatures were unconcerned and stuck to the demons’ skin here and there.

The two demons, which were covered so completely that none of their original scales were visible, slowly sank into the water…

“The green serpent that appeared in the forest of black lilies will sleep forever in the red lake…?”

As I watched the demons sink into the water without doubt, I belatedly slumped and collapsed on the ground.

As I hugged the stump beside me with a breath of relief, I thought, I knew it was a hint of salvation from the textbook of the Ancient Language of the Kingdom.

The Forest of Black Lilies was the forest of the Duke of Fritillaria, whose emblem was the black lily.

The “green snake” was the snake-shaped demon that we had just confronted.

The “Red Lake” was the red part of the lake.

I never expected that the red color was an underwater creature…

Both my hands were shaking violently.

I was staring at my hands in shame, but then I felt gazes on me, so I looked up.

Then I saw my brother and Lakash staring at me with a look of disbelief in their eyes.

…Oh, they must be surprised because I used wind magic.

It was definitely shocking when I suddenly used wind magic after 16 years of solely focusing on fire magic.

I had no clue why Luciana chose fire magic either, but I should confess that she possessed the qualities of a wind mage.

…Then, when my thoughts reached that far, an answer popped into my head out of the blue.

The answer to why Luciana was using fire magic.

But it was such an absurd answer that I covered my mouth with my hands, unable to believe it.

…No way, no way, no way, NO WAY.

No, but really. I wished it was a lie, but I was certain of it. Oh, dear.

…Crown Prince Ernesto’s attribute was fire.

Luciana chose fire magic because she wanted to acquire the same attributes as the crown prince she yearned for.

“Luciana…!”

I couldn’t help but scream my name to the sky.

Choosing a magic attribute should be a choice that many people would say – a life-altering choice.

Such a choice that was made because of wanting to match the magic the person one admired has…

Really, everything I did was painted pink. I even pulled myself into it!!

As I turned around, holding my face with my hands in a pathetic state of mind, Lakash’s choppy voice rang down to me.

“Dianthus…now….that’s not your magic. Impossible…there’s no way…”

I looked up at him, wondering at his uncharacteristic lack of clarity, and shifted my hands, which were covering my entire face, down a little to look at him.

His expression was indescribable ――― If I had to describe it, I’d say he looked as if he had unexpectedly discovered an imaginary creature.

Huh, well, I guessed so.

I was a villainess hated by all the high-ranking nobles, royalty, and higher-ups in this country (and some neighboring countries), a capture target. It wasn’t every day that he’d find something this rare, right?!

I nodded my head in agreement, but something was wrong with Lakash.

In fact, it was strange that my always cheerful brother, standing next to Lakash, was dead quiet, when he should be eloquent about me defeating demons and saved his life

W-What’s going on?…

As I braced myself, Lakash asked…He asked me a question, as if asking what I wanted to know deep down.

“Dianthus, are you…The Wizard of Yggdrasil?”

“Huh?”

But I, the recipient of the question, couldn’t even understand what he meant.
