Chapter 1120 — Just Shouting Slogans

The Empress Dowager was still quietly sneaking her way toward the door, while the old maid followed closely behind, not daring to lift her head. She feared that once Her Majesty calmed down and remembered all the undignified things she’d done today, with her witnessing every moment, she might develop the urge to silence her forever.

Creak-Creak.

The faint sound entered both their ears. The Empress Dowager stopped immediately, alertly turning toward the source of the noise. Then her face darkened, flushed, and turned green with shock.

Feng Qingbai! Feng Qingbai was right there, on the windowsill of her inner hall!

The dignified King, after being denied entry, actually chose to climb through a window! Her face darkened.

Then she remembered: if Feng Qingbai had climbed the window, then he must have seen her earlier sneaking around like a thief. Her old face burned scarlet in an instant.

And then shame turned into fury.

What was this place? This was her Yangxin Hall! How dare Feng Qingbai climb through her window?!

“Qin Yi! Drive him out!”

As if on cue, a shadow dropped from a corner of the inner hall, landing face-first with a loud smack.

He had clearly been subdued by Feng Qingbai long ago, without even getting the chance to take action.

The Empress Dowager fumed. “How can you be so useless?!”

Qin Yi: “…” Even if he were more useful, he still couldn’t defeat the King of Nanling.

By then, Feng Qingbai had already jumped down from the windowsill and stepped into the hall, perfectly calm and composed—entirely lacking the awareness that a King crawling through windows ought to feel some level of shame.

“Has the Yangxin Hall changed its rules for receiving guests?”

“And has the King changed his way of visiting?” the Empress Dowager snorted. Knowing the situation was already lost, she simply walked forward with dignity and unbolted the door.

Since Feng Qingbai was already inside, there was no point keeping the lady outside.

Besides, she couldn’t keep her out anyway.

She prided herself on understanding Feng Qingbai to some extent, but what happened today was something she truly hadn’t expected.

She never imagined Feng Qingbai would throw away all shame.

Once she allowed the group inside, the Empress Dowager returned to her couch.

As she passed the man standing there with a faint smile, she asked, “Between you and Qin Xiao, who has the better chance of winning?”

Feng Qingbai’s eyes glimmered. “We’re evenly matched.”

The Empress Dowager fell silent. When Qin Xiao returned, she would have him join forces with Qin Yi to beat up Feng Qingbai.

By this time, Liu Yusheng had also entered the hall. Thinking of how she had just been refused entry and then looking at the Empress Dowager—who had hurriedly sat back on her couch, sitting ramrod straight in front of Badou and Hongdou so that from Yusheng’s angle only the two little ones’ feet were visible—

Liu Yusheng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

The refusal posture was really done to perfection.

“Your Majesty.”

“Mm.”

“Let me see Badou and Hongdou.”

The Empress Dowager instinctively felt reluctant, but when she lifted her gaze and saw Liu Yusheng’s expression, she froze for a moment. Then, slowly, she shifted aside, revealing Badou and Hongdou, whom she had been hiding behind.

Liu Yusheng’s eyes were red, shimmering with tears. Ever since she saw those two tiny feet, she had been desperately holding back, fighting the urge to let her tears spill.

She hadn’t expected herself to become this emotional.

But the moment she truly saw her two children right in front of her, the urge to cry surged up with overwhelming force, so strong she could hardly contain it.

The two little beans had been happily playing by themselves, but suddenly seeing so many people in the hall made them excited rather than shy.

Their identical dark, clear eyes rolled around as they looked back and forth, examining everyone.

Badou raised his little wooden ruler, announcing his conclusion, “People. Many.”

“Many, many!” Hongdou echoed.

Then the wooden ruler slashed downward as he issued his command: “Grandma, Grandma, hit!”

“Hit, hit!”

The Empress Dowager: “…”

Everyone in the hall, “…”

All the complicated emotions swirling in Liu Yusheng’s eyes were instantly wiped out, completely obliterated.

After being away for more than half a year, the twins had changed tremendously from the day she left them. They had grown a lot, fairer and chubbier, and their tiny bodies had shot up noticeably in just a few months. When she left, they could only crawl and sit. Now they could pull themselves up to stand, toddle around, and unbelievably even talk.

This should have been something that filled any parent with joy.

But the moment the two little beans saw her, the first thing they did was shout about hitting people—and instantly, everything felt wrong.

This was the sort of momentum that led straight to becoming little rascals.

From all around, several gazes gathered on her. The Empress Dowager frowned. “Why are you all staring at me? Didn’t you want to see the children? If you’ve seen them, then withdraw. I’m a bit tired today. I’m not suitable for receiving guests.”

It was clearly an order to dismiss them, yet she never said the couple could take the children. The Empress Dowager instinctively avoided the topic and intentionally guided everyone away from remembering that possibility.

“Your Majesty, Badou wants to hit someone,” Liu Yusheng said with a twitching mouth, squeezing the words out, while a terrible feeling rose in her chest.

“He didn’t hit anyone,” the Empress Dowager replied firmly, without hesitation.

“…” A dead pig is truly unafraid of boiling water!

Indeed, he hadn’t hit anyone. He was just shouting slogans. Could they say he was wrong?

No, they could not.

At that moment, the two little beans’ round, wandering gazes finally stopped on Liu Yusheng. Their eyes met.

The children blinked, puzzled, a hint of confusion flashing within. Then Badou suddenly grinned, revealing tiny white millet teeth, pointed his little wooden ruler at Liu Yusheng, and shouted,  “Ah! Ah hit! Sensen!”

“Sensen!” echoed Hongdou, even louder.

“…” Liu Yusheng turned to stone on the spot.

“Pft! Cough, cough, cough, cough!” It was Xue Qinglian, coughing so hard his face twitched.

Feng Qingbai didn’t say a word, but from his cracked expression, it was clear his inner world was collapsing.

Aside from Qian Yi, who still didn’t understand what was happening and was completely baffled, the other three, usually unflappable even in the most dangerous situations, were utterly shattered.

Sen… Sensen? Shengsheng?

That’s right—Badou had recognized Liu Yusheng, but he didn’t know he should call her ‘mother.’ All he remembered was that a man called her ‘Shengsheng’ in front of him every day.

Seeing everyone around him take such a huge blow, the Empress Dowager remained silent, feeling surprisingly refreshed.

If they weren’t taught a lesson, they’d truly treat children like objects: pick them up when convenient, toss them aside when busy, and go handle whatever they deemed urgent.

Parents were not supposed to behave that way.

“Sensen! Sensen!” The little ones on the couch continued shouting happily, their tiny faces lighting up with ever-brighter smiles.

Finally, Badou led the way again, sticking out his tiny bottom as he clambered along the edge of the couch to slide down. His little body was so small that even sliding down from a not-so-high couch took tremendous effort—his little face turning red with exertion. Once he steadied himself, he immediately reached out to help his sister, who was still struggling to plant her feet, giving her a hand.

During this, the Empress Dowager didn’t intervene; she let the two little ones figure it out for themselves, only keeping her eyes firmly on them to catch them if they fell.

Liu Yusheng and Feng Qingbai also didn’t step forward. They didn’t rush to scoop up the children. They simply pressed their lips together, watching, the tight line of their mouths betraying their tension.

Once both were steady, the two little ones wobbled toward Liu Yusheng, their short legs tottering as they went.

“Sensen! Sensen! Hug!”
