Chapter 1085: Your Reaction Is Abnormal
In the guest room two doors down from Xue Qinglian’s room, Liu Yusheng was still quietly brooding.
No matter how Feng Qingbai tried to comfort her, he couldn’t dispel the sorrow etched between her brows. He pinched the space between her eyes and held her close. “Xue Qinglian’s fine. He’s just asleep.”
Liu Yusheng immediately looked up. “How do you know?”
Then, as if realizing something, she asked again, “What did you do?”
Feng Qingbai paused. At times like this, he didn’t know whether to feel happy or helpless at how well the woman understood him.
“I just used some of the powder he’d developed himself. It makes him fall into a deep sleep, so he looks weaker than usual. Once the effect wears off, he’ll wake up fine. There’s no major harm.”
Liu Yusheng’s expression went blank. “Xue Qinglian is skilled with poison, how did you get him to take it?”
Feng Qingbai could be considered a master in nearly every other field, but compared to Xue Qinglian in the use of poisons, it was like a three-year-old trying to compete with an adult.
She simply couldn’t figure out how he had managed it.
The man’s lips curved slightly. “Would you guard against me?”
Liu Yusheng shook her head. “No.”
He was the person she trusted most. She knew that no matter what happened, Feng Qingbai would never harm her, so how could she possibly guard against him?
“Xue Qinglian wouldn’t either.”
“……”
Seeing the man’s half-smiling, half-serious expression, Liu Yusheng finally realized.
If it were anyone else trying to use poison on Xue Qinglian, it would have been impossible to succeed. But with Feng Qingbai, it was entirely different.
Because they were friends. Because Xue Qinglian, like her, truly trusted Feng Qingbai.
It was precisely this trust that meant he would never be on guard against this person.
And someone completely unguarded is easy to manipulate, so Xue Qinglian was not really wronged.
Liu Yusheng guessed that when Xue Qinglian woke up and learned the truth, he would probably clash fiercely with Feng Qingbai. A poison master being bested by a mere ‘small shrimp’—what a humiliation.
“You did this to force Qian Yi to give the antidote, didn’t you?”
Apart from that, Liu Yusheng could think of no other reason.
Feng Qingbai nodded openly.
“But I sense that Qian Yi may have some unspeakable difficulty. Perhaps she doesn’t actually know the antidote, only hears of it. Otherwise, Xue Qinglian has been poisoned for so many days, and we’ve been together most of the time. Why hasn’t Qian Yi ever brought it up? If she truly had the prescription, she would have used it. She wouldn’t bear to see Xue Qinglian suffer every day; she cares for him deeply.”
“No matter what her reasons are, Shengsheng, I must get the antidote. Life is only once, and if we miss this chance, Xue Qinglian will become history.” He had no indulgent compassion, and no time to consider Qian Yi’s feelings. Xue Qinglian simply couldn’t wait.
Liu Yusheng fell silent for a moment. Scheming against Qian Yi like this was indeed unfair, but if she were forced to choose between Qian Yi and Xue Qinglian, she would choose Xue Qinglian without hesitation.
“Do you think she really knows how to remove the poison? What method would she even use?”
“Make Xue Qinglian suffer a little more. If it can stir Qian Yi’s compassion, she might actually tell us the method. This is our last chance. Judging by her expression that day, even if she doesn’t know the antidote fully, she definitely knows how to save Xue Qinglian. Now we just wait, wait for her to come and lay her cards on the table herself.”
Feng Qingbai didn’t say that what he was blocking was Qian Yi’s special attachment to Xue Qinglian, but Liu Yusheng understood.
The couple sat quietly together, weighed down by their heavy hearts. Liu Yusheng had no desire for idle chatter, and Feng Qingbai didn’t disturb her, simply staying quietly by her side.
Both were waiting for Qian Yi to come forward and confess the antidote method. But no matter how long they waited, no one appeared.
Until Liu Yusheng grew tired and was coaxed to sleep by Feng Qingbai, she didn’t hear any movement from the other room. And after she fell asleep, she didn’t see the subtle flicker in Feng Qingbai’s eyes—a moment of surprise that quickly returned to calm.
Xue Qinglian seemed to fall into a dream. In the dream, the world around him was shrouded in mist, all white, nothing clearly visible, the entire space silent as an empty city. He ran everywhere, unable to find an exit, unable to discern direction; the feeling was suffocating, anxiety-inducing.
He was conscious in his mind and aware that he was dreaming. He was trying desperately to open his eyes and wake up, but he couldn’t muster a shred of strength, for reasons he couldn’t explain.
In his dream, he felt a faint coolness on his body, followed by a soft warmth wrapping around him.
He furrowed his brows again and again, aware that something was wrong, yet utterly powerless to do anything.
What followed felt as if reality and the dream had overlapped.
Gradually, he could no longer tell whether he was in the real world or merely trapped in an absurd, enchanting dream.
The only thing he remembered clearly was the faint scent of blood he smelled as he sank fully into darkness.
When he awoke, it was already night.
The guest room was dimly lit, the light flickering uncertainly, and the room was completely quiet.
Xue Qinglian didn’t even have time to check if anyone was around. The first thing he did was reach over his body. His clothes were intact, clean, and fresh. The faint scent of blood from the dream was gone, replaced only by the smell of burning candle oil.
“Xue Qinglian, you’re awake? How do you feel? Any pain? Any discomfort? Do you still feel like vomiting blood?” A rapid-fire series of questions came from beside him, the voice unmistakably that of Qian Yi, who was always as chirpy as a little sparrow.
“I’m fine. Better than fine. Can you quiet down?” Xue Qinglian rolled his eyes in exasperation, and then immediately sensed that something was amiss.
The weakness in his body seemed to have vanished, and his strength had fully returned. The tight, constricting sensation that had gripped his internal organs was completely gone, leaving him feeling as light and normal as when he was healthy. Even his voice sounded steady and full, no longer weak or fading.
“Did Lucky Nannan undo my Gu? Where is she?” Xue Qinglian asked, shock and uncertainty mixing in his tone.
If it wasn’t her, how could he have gone from a half-dead state to suddenly full of energy? He could clearly feel that his body was now perfectly fine.
When he asked the question, Qian Yi’s eyes flickered, and she turned her head slightly to avoid his gaze. “Sister Liu and her husband went downstairs to order some food. They’ll be back soon. You… you’re fine, that’s what matters.”
Xue Qinglian narrowed his eyes, giving her a strange look. “No, something’s off. If you knew I was alright, shouldn’t you be bouncing around happily and chirping non-stop like usual? Why do you look like this? As if you’ve done something to be guilty.”
“Who’s guilty of anything?!” The girl jumped up like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, her neck stiff with indignation.
TL Note: ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡ Hahaha, Qinglian’s fate is sealed!!
