Chapter 1045 – Eunuchs Most Fear Incompleteness

“The doctor’s here! The doctor’s here!”

The crowd pressed against the doorway immediately made a path for the physician.

Liu Yusheng was pushed to the side, in a spot that allowed her to see the doctor approach the bed and examine the man lying there.

The eunuch was on the bed, his face extremely pale, eyes wide open, as if still in shock from a fright.

But there were no traces of blood around his lips; instead, a large stain of red had spread across his lower garments, seeping all the way down to the hem of his pants.

Liu Yusheng’s lips twitched subtly. She had guessed wrong earlier. The pool of blood on the floor hadn’t come from the eunuch vomiting; it had come from somewhere else entirely.

This gave her a new understanding of Honglian’s poison.

Qinglian who called himself the ‘Ancestor of Poisons’ truly lived up to the name.

She felt inferior.

There was no way she could concoct such a precise poison, let alone choose exactly where it would make someone bleed.

The eunuch was already without his ‘treasure’. Coupled with his age, it was no wonder he looked so terrified after suddenly bleeding uncontrollably.

In the corner of the room, the cold-faced guard cast a glance in her direction, barely lingering on her face before looking away, a subtle, almost imperceptible smile flickering in his eyes.

Hmm, this time Honglian had done well. On the little notebook where he recorded Honglian’s offenses, he could now cross off a charge or two.

The unremarkable guard beside him seemed to sense the aura emanating from him and snorted lightly.

Back when his martial skills weren’t so refined, every time he saw Feng Qingbai, he would dare to charge at him with a blade. Years had passed, his cultivation had grown, and now he could still be feared?

One day, he would make Feng Qingbai kneel.

Both were people with extremely keen sixth senses; they knew exactly what the other was scheming.

Their eyes met, sparks flew, the air crackled like electricity.

“Doctor, can you tell what’s wrong? Has this humble servant been poisoned?” At the bedside, the doctor had just withdrawn his hands from checking the pulse, frowning. Seeing this, the eunuch immediately asked in a deep voice.

Liu Yusheng’s heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t expected this old bastard to be so perceptive. He guessed it immediately.

Right now, she desperately hoped that the doctor before them was incompetent.

“Ah… forgive me, Gonggong. This humble doctor did not detect any abnormalities. To make a proper diagnosis, I would need to examine Gonggong’s wound…” The doctor struggled to say it, forcing the words out.

The whole world knew what eunuchs most feared after being castrated.

The last thing a eunuch could bear was having others see his mutilation. Now the doctor was asking to examine exactly that place to make a diagnosis. It was practically the same as courting death.

But upholding a physician’s ethics, he still mustered the courage to ask. If he could inspect the injury, perhaps he might figure something out.

“Smack!” The old eunuch’s pale face flushed a furious red. He raised his hand and slapped the doctor hard. Still unsatisfied, he lifted his foot and kicked him violently, sending the man sprawling to the ground. “If you can’t diagnose it, it’s because your medical skills are lacking! How dare you make excuses? Check the wound? I have no wounds on my body! You’re courting death—get out!”

The doctor didn’t dare argue. He scrambled up, grabbed his medicine box, and fled in a hurry.

The old eunuch’s face burned with shifting colors, and when he noticed how many people had gathered inside and outside the side room, his anger surged even further.

They were all laughing at him. They all deserved to die.

“Out! All of you, get out!” After shouting, he glanced at the horrifying red stain on his pants and roared again, “Go find another doctor! Bring every doctor in the area here! I refuse to believe that in such a large town, not a single one has real skill!”

His personal attendant eunuch bowed timidly and hurried off to fetch more doctors.

As for the others, under the old eunuch’s rage and humiliation, they all left the room. If people wouldn’t have found it suspicious, Liu Yusheng would have burst out laughing on the way back.

A mutilated man with a mutilated mind.

In his obsession to save face, he asked ten or more doctors to be brought, but they still wouldn’t find the real cause.

Thinking back to the doctor’s earlier response, and recalling how calm Honglian had looked while the doctor was taking the pulse, Liu Yusheng no longer felt worried.

The poison Honglian used—most likely no one besides him could diagnose it. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so composed.

“Hey, what do you think is wrong with that old thing? How did he suddenly start bleeding like that? Did he catch some terminal illness?” A head suddenly popped up behind her, whispering sneakily and gossiping. “If he really does have some incurable disease, that would be fantastic!”

Liu Yusheng’s mouth twitched.

If you want to gloat, at least wait until you’re back in your room. You’re showing it so openly in public. Aren’t you just asking people to suspect you?

To keep the woman from exposing herself too soon, Liu Yusheng pulled her inside just as they reached her room. “Even if you are wishing for his death, don’t act like it in front of others. Otherwise, you will be the first person they investigate.”

Her identity absolutely couldn’t withstand scrutiny.

If anyone discovered that she, a saintess of the Saintess Tribe, had disguised herself as a male servant in the envoy’s caravan; what would they think her intentions were?

But instead of making the woman rein herself in, the scolding only made her smile even brighter. “I knew it! You’re definitely on my side! You’re hoping that old thing kicks the bucket too, right? If not for him, the Saintess Tribe’s saintesses wouldn’t have suffered so many losses!”

Liu Yusheng rubbed her brow, unsure whether the girl was genuinely innocent or just testing her.

“Anyway, keep a low profile when we’re outside.”

“I know. You really think I’m that dumb? I act like this around you because I can feel you’re a good person. I’m very sensitive,I can tell from someone’s aura whether they’re good or bad,” Qian Yi said, lifting her chin proudly.

Although it sounded like showing off, she swore it was the truth.

It was because she sensed the kind aura around Liu Yusheng that she came over to gossip with her.

“By the way, miss, what’s your name? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in the Saintess Village.”

“Qian Mei.” She gestured for the endlessly fidgeting girl to sit and poured her a cup of tea.

This would keep her still for a moment; otherwise, she really was like someone who couldn’t sit still for a second.

Taking the tea and sipping it, Qian Yi frowned thoughtfully. “Qian Mei? I don’t think there’s anyone named Qian Mei in the Saintess Village. Did I remember wrong?”

“How do you know there isn’t?” Qian Mei—the name was the identity Honglian had arranged for her—did exist, though she rarely appeared in public.

“Of course I know. I grew up there!—”

Meeting the girl’s half-smile, half-smirk, Qian Yi finally realized she had walked right into her trap.

Drooping her head in frustration, she asked, “You knew it was me all along, didn’t you?”

Liu Yusheng smiled without answering. She had known from the very beginning, not that she had discovered it earlier.

“Since you knew it was me, you didn’t just admit it and acknowledge me, but pretended like you didn’t know me,” Qianyi said. By now, she had already accepted that she had been exposed, and the speed of her recovery was astonishing. “But I really don’t have any impression of your name. Why don’t you show me your face? Once I see it, I’ll know for sure whether you’re really from the Saintess Tribe.”
