Chapter 952 – No Audience Needed, Thanks

In order to prove his virility on his wedding night, Qian Wanjin went all out.

He pushed Feng Qingbai forward to take the brunt of the toasts — even Qian Wanyin wasn’t spared.

As for how Feng Qingbai would take revenge later, well… he’d deal with that when the time came.

There were simply too many guests at this wedding banquet; there was no way he could handle them all by himself.

If he really had to drink with every guest honestly, he’d be drunk into oblivion before the banquet ended. Would he really be that stupid?

“Qian Wanjin, I’ll remember this debt,” Feng Qingbai said after blocking yet another round of toasts. The corners of his lips lifted, but his voice carried a cold, ominous undertone.

Qian Wanjin immediately shifted the blame. “You can’t blame me for this. Just look around. How many people here aren’t actually here for you? If it weren’t for your blessing, would I still be stuck outside the bridal chamber right now?”

And after tossing the blame, he switched tactics, playing the pitiful card. “You’ve been through this too. Back when you got married, you were just as impatient as I am now. You’ve got to understand me, right, brother?”

Qian Wanyin stood nearby, hearing his elder brother actually call the King of Nanling ‘brother,’ and his heart skipped a heavy beat.

He’d known his elder brother was on good terms with the King and King’s Consort, but never in his wildest dreams did he imagine it was this close. Shock didn’t even begin to cover it.

Then he looked at Feng Qingbai again. Though the man’s words were sharp, there was an unmistakable trace of indulgence in his expression and manner. Otherwise, if he truly didn’t approve, who in this entire hall would dare try to toast him with alcohol?

The King clearly didn’t want to ruin the joyful atmosphere of the wedding banquet!

His kindness toward Qian Wanjin wasn’t just out of consideration for Liu Yusheng!

Meanwhile, the ‘pitiful act’ beside him continued unabated.

“I’m already getting on in years. Our family’s Xiao Shitou is nearly twenty-four now. It wasn’t easy for me to finally get married! If I can’t perform tonight, imagine how miserable my Xiao Shitou will be! You’ve got a wife and children, so you don’t know the pain of a bachelor’s life. I’m almost thirty and haven’t even tasted the meat yet. As my brother, can you really bear not to help me out here…?”

The groom hid behind the Feng Qingbai, rambling incessantly. Feng Qingbai occasionally turned his head to shoot him a cold glance, yet he accepted every cup of wine that cautious guests offered him.

He truly did block all the drinks for the groom.

That — that was what it meant to be brothers.

The guests were thrilled just to have a chance to toast the King, and the entire atmosphere of the banquet grew even more lively thanks to his bold drinking.

That excitement reached its peak when the Emperor himself arrived.

Those who had fought tooth and nail to get an invitation to this wedding; which of them hadn’t dreamed of seeing both the Prince Regent and the Emperor in person? Now that they’d actually laid eyes on the two, all the effort and scheming to get in suddenly felt worth it.

Completely worth it!

Feng Mohan had come incognito. Because it was a wedding banquet, he excused everyone from the formal courtesies. Soon after, the elders of the Qian family respectfully led him to a garden hall where a separate table had been prepared for his private use.

His arrival not only brought great honor to the Qian family but also rescued Feng Qingbai from his predicament.

Qian Wanjin took the opportunity to slip away as well, following along to escape the noisy chaos outside.

No one could complain. After all, the groom himself was personally attending to the Emperor.

Qian Wanyin entered too.

He hadn’t intended to. Though he’d also helped block a fair share of toasts, his status was nowhere near high enough to appear in such a company. It was Mrs. Wang who had forcibly pushed him inside.

As a result, he was extremely tense and uneasy.

Once the group sat down in the garden hall, Qian Wanjin had just relaxed and stretched a little when he saw Feng Qingbai toss something pill-like into his mouth.

“What are you taking medicine for? Are you feeling unwell from drinking too much?”

The man cast him a cool glance but said nothing. Instead, Feng Mohan looked up in surprise. “You didn’t know? That’s an anti-alcohol pill specially made by my Imperial Aunt. Take one before drinking, and you won’t get drunk no matter how much you drink. Take one after, and it sobers you up immediately.”

Qian Wanjin: “…”

After spluttering for a long moment, he suddenly leapt to his feet and pointed furiously at Feng Qingbai’s nose. “So that’s why your drinking capacity was so amazing! You held your own against the whole crowd! Turns out you were hiding something this good all along! Feng Qingbai, I finally see you for what you are! You watched me drink myself silly at the start! You did that on purpose!”

“You didn’t ask,” the man replied, casually tossing a pill to Qian Wanyin, leaving him utterly flattered.

“What about mine?” Qian Wanjin reached out.

“Did you drink later? Are you drunk?”

“….” Seems not.

But that wasn’t a reason to hide the existence of a divine medicine, was it? Had he known there was a hangover-cure pill that could make one immune to alcohol, Qian Wanjin swore he would have drunk on his own, without troubling Feng Qingbai in the slightest.

Was a favor from the prince so easily owed? Who knew what Feng Qingbai might do to him later!

“There’s Elder Qian outside to hold things together, you don’t need to go out again. Go to the bridal chamber, and bring Shengsheng along.”

“For what?”

“I’m drunk.”

“….” Qian Wanjin wiped his face, realizing today he had truly witnessed just how shameless a person could be.

No one in Nanling could rival Feng Qingbai.

“Is this the signal that the event is wrapping up?” Feng Mohan looked equally stunned and bewildered. “I just arrived.”

He had changed into casual clothes just to join the fun, and even avoided the Empress Dowager. His seat hadn’t even warmed up yet, and now his uncle was leaving?

So his purpose in coming here was merely to fill in for a moment?

“Next time, come earlier.” The man closed his eyes, letting out his drunken breath, his words utterly irresponsible.

Feng Mohan slumped in his chair, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Had he known it would be like this, he might as well not have come. Even staying in the Yangxin Hall with Badou and Hongdou would have been more interesting than this wasted trip.

“Uncle, I was still planning to disturb the bridal chamber,” the young man said weakly.

Qian Wanjin immediately stood and headed toward the bridal chamber. “Feng Qingbai, I’ll go call Lucky Nannan out right now. You two should quickly make your way home.”

Disturb the bridal chamber?

Dream on.

He had waited for years, and today he finally had the chance to officially indulge. Anyone who dared to interfere would face his wrath, and even the emperor wouldn’t intervene.

When Liu Yusheng was hurriedly dragged out of the bridal chamber by Qian Wanjin, she was bewildered. “It’s not even dark yet and it’s already over?”

“Nannan, please, do me a favor and take those two troublemakers away. I don’t need any spectators for my coming-of-age ceremony today, thank you.”

“……”

Being kicked out of a wedding banquet before even finishing attending it was probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Liu Yusheng resigned herself and left with the two troublemakers.

Feng Mohan had been there less than fifteen minutes from start to finish.

Watching the emperor and the prince leave in a hurry, the guests nodded repeatedly. Both the emperor and the prince were busy men; leaving midway through the event was perfectly normal.

Qian Wanjin personally saw the group out the door, and only after the carriage disappeared from sight did he rush back to the bridal chamber.

The door slammed shut. “Shitou, we can start the wedding night!”

“No need to wait until dark?” Shi Xianrou sat at the round table, propping her chin on one hand, smiling as she asked.

“Who says the wedding night has to wait until dark?” Qian Wanjin tossed aside his ceremonial robe, leapt onto the bed, and beckoned with his finger. “Come on! I’ve been waiting for this day for two years!”

“Oh, so you’ve been fantasizing about me for two years.” The woman stood, loosening her bright red wedding dress. Her movements weren’t rushed, yet the speed and grace of her undressing left the man extremely satisfied.
