Chapter 941: I Need to Pee, Can You Help Me?

After briefly explaining the situation to the two of them, Zisu retreated.

Next, she and the other four—Bai Zhu and the others—had to take turns being on duty, responsible for closely monitoring Xue Qinglian’s postoperative condition. If there were any complications or early signs of infection, they needed to report immediately to the princess consort.

The first ones on duty were Bai Zhu and Qi Xin, so she and Chenxiang had to hurry to wash up and rest, then return to take over their shift after a short recovery.

As for Xue Zhong, who was lying in another room, not a single person paid him any attention.

Since he had gone through all the trouble to get into the King’s Manor, Feng Qingbai would naturally deal with him.

Meanwhile, being carried back to the room by the man, Liu Yusheng was too exhausted and had already fallen asleep halfway there.

This time, the mental effort she had expended was the greatest out of more than a dozen surgeries she had performed over the past two months.

For most of the day, starting from when she got up, her nerves had been tightly strung, worried that something might go wrong on Feng Qingbai’s side, or that unforeseen complications might arise.

Even when Feng Qingbai returned, she couldn’t relax. After scolding Xue Zhong, she immediately threw herself into the intense surgery.

So, once the operation was complete and her mind relaxed, the exhaustion hit her like a tidal wave.

Feng Qingbai’s heart ached with pain.

From Liuyun Pavilion to Yuqing Courtyard, it wasn’t a long distance for him, given his pace. However, before he had even made it halfway, he heard the soft, steady breathing of the woman in his arms.

Lowering his gaze, he saw the stark dark circles under her eyes. His thin lips pressed into a straight line. He quickened his steps back to the bedroom and gently laid the woman down on the bed, then lay down beside her.

He actually had something more important to do next.

From the clues he had extracted from Xue Zhong, Shan Lai was beginning to emerge. Striking her before she had a chance to react would be the best tactic.

Pulling the woman closer into his embrace, Feng Qingbai kissed the space between her brows and held her as he closed his eyes.

Schemes, power, and wealth—none of it compared to the satisfaction of simply holding her in his arms.

Liu Yusheng slept like the dead. By the time she woke up, it was already the next day.

When she opened her eyes, the man was still beside her, his dark eyes watching her, with a soft tenderness in the corners of his eyes and brows.

“You’re awake?”

Liu Yusheng glanced outside, estimating that it was already past the chen hour. “Why are you still at home? Didn’t you have to check in at court? What happened to Xue Zhong? And has Shan Lai been interrogated yet? What exactly is her relationship with Xue Zhong?”

As soon as the woman opened her mouth, it was a barrage of rapid-fire questions, more anxious about the current situation than he was.

Feng Qingbai helplessly rubbed her head and said, “You’ve been exhausted for nearly two months. Now that you’ve had some rest, just drink some tea, go check on Xue Qinglian, or visit the Empress Dowager in the palace, see Badou and Hongdou. There are plenty of things you can do to relax. As for everything else, I’ll handle it and let you know the outcome, alright?”

“Ahem,” Liu Yusheng coughed lightly. She realized she really was more anxious than he was. While he was worrying about her, her mind was full of things that had nothing to do with him. The man was clearly displeased.

Though he didn’t show it outright, she could tell immediately. He was obviously jealous.

“You go ahead and take care of your work. I’ll get up in a bit, freshen up, and go to the palace at noon to see the Empress Dowager and the two little beans,” she spoke with a slightly guilty, appeasing tone.

“Mhm. Let’s have lunch at the Yangxin Hall. I’ll come over as soon as I finish my business.”

“Alright.”

Liu Yusheng watched him leave and then immediately got out of bed to start washing up. After a good long sleep, she was full of energy and finally remembered her responsibilities as a mother.

It had been nearly a month since Feng Qingbai brought the two beans back. If she didn’t show her face soon, she was afraid the two little ones might forget they even had a mother.

And then there was the Empress Dowager. She had been so busy the past two months that she hadn’t visited at all. With her temperament, she was surely sulking in silence.

When she entered the palace later, she’d have to coax all three of them.

After tidying herself up and eating a little something, Liu Yusheng went to Liuyun Pavilion, intending to first check on the patient and see if there were any adverse reactions on the first day after surgery.

When she arrived, Zisu and Chenxiang were the ones keeping watch in the room. The moment they saw her, they immediately stood up and saluted.

Before she could even ask about the situation, the man lying in bed who had also just woken up immediately started complaining to her, “Lucky Nannan, I don’t need anyone waiting on me so closely. Can you tell them to leave? Or at least switch them out for a couple of men? I’ve got to hand it to these two maids of yours. When they say they’re keeping an eye on me, they mean it literally. Just look where they’re sitting. They are right at the head of my bed, staring at me all night! Who monitors a patient like that? I couldn’t sleep at all!”

“Her Highness said the first three days after surgery are crucial for recovery. We must stay close in case anything happens and we can’t report it in time,” Chen Xiang muttered in protest.

Xue Qinglian felt his head throbbing, almost groaning aloud. “I’m a doctor too! Don’t you think I know my own condition? If something were really wrong, I’d call for you. But you’re sitting there all night like guards on high alert. How is anyone supposed to get any rest? Denying a patient proper sleep is the cruelest thing imaginable. Do you realize that? And what good are you even doing by staring at me like that? If I need to relieve myself, are you two going to help me?”

The two maids’ faces instantly flushed red with embarrassment. They were completely speechless, and yet they still couldn’t leave.

Now that the Princess Consort had arrived, he brought it up on purpose. Clearly, he was tattling!

Wasn’t he just deliberately trying to embarrass them?!

Liu Yusheng sighed helplessly and waved for Zisu and Chenxiang to step out first. Then she turned to scold Xue Qinglian, “Even if you don’t like being watched, there’s no need to tease them like that. They’re still unmarried young ladies.”

“I held it all night. I only said something because you came. If I’d said that kind of thing before you got here, they probably would’ve thought I had bad intentions, like I was harassing proper young women!” Xue Qinglian was even more frustrated. “I really need to use the toilet!”

“…” Liu Yusheng immediately turned to call out for a male servant. “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

“I said it a dozen times! But your two maids didn’t like what I was saying and straight up ignored me. I had to hold it in for a full hour! That’s revenge—pure and simple!!!”

“…” Liu Yusheng stepped out of the room and seeing the two maids still standing there with awkward expressions on their faces, Liu Yusheng held her forehead. “Go and call two male servants over to help.”

“Right away!” The two girls practically bolted like they were fleeing. Liu Yusheng watched them leave, the corners of her mouth twitching.

Since when have they gotten so cheeky?

Once Xue Qinglian had relieved himself and felt much better, Liu Yusheng checked his wound.

During this period, the surgeries she’d performed on him had used up nearly all of the spiritual spring water from her space. With that kind of healing, the risk of infection was actually very low, but she still needed to confirm it to feel at ease.

“I’ll be heading to the palace in a bit to visit the Empress Dowager and bring Badou and Hongdou back with me.” After a brief pause, Liu Yusheng glanced toward the neighboring room. “He’s right next door. The wound near his heart has already been stitched up, and his life’s not in danger. Are you sure your heart wasn’t affected with that stab?”

When Xue Zhong stabbed toward Xue Qinglian’s chest, Xue Qinglian hadn’t yet been given any anesthesia. The hairpin hadn’t actually pierced into his body, so of course he didn’t die, but the pain was still something an ordinary person couldn’t endure.

Yet at that moment, she had been sitting right beside him. Aside from seeing his face suddenly go pale for a brief instant, she hadn’t heard him make even a single sound. She thought, the pain in his heart must have been even worse than if the hairpin had truly pierced it.
