Chapter 934: He Will Beg to See Me

Feng Qingbai was a master at manipulating the human psyche.

He knew exactly how desperate the other man was to get an answer, yet he deliberately said nothing. His expression and tone revealed not the slightest hint or weakness.

Only when facing this man in a direct confrontation did Xue Zhong realize that Feng Qingbai was far more terrifying than he had ever imagined.

He had believed that with Xue Qinglian as leverage, Feng Qingbai would be hesitant and restrained. But after this prolonged period of torment, that former confidence had slowly begun to crumble.

Did Feng Qingbai really care about Xue Qinglian? Would he truly hold back for the sake of Liu Yusheng?

Nearly a month had proven otherwise—no, Feng Qingbai would not.

This man only did what he wanted to do, and to achieve his goals, he—just like himself—would stop at nothing.

The torture had stopped for half an hour, yet the pain in his body hadn’t lessened in the slightest, and the strength he had lost hadn’t returned. He couldn’t hold on much longer.

“If your mother knew how you were treating your own uncle… even in the afterlife, she wouldn’t be at peace…!”

With the last of his strength, he forced out the words and fixed his gaze on Feng Qingbai, wanting to see what reaction that statement would provoke.

The man’s refined, elegant face was half-lit by the dim yellow lamp, partly hidden in shadow. His expression was hard to make out—yet Xue Zhong clearly saw the faint upward curve of his lips.

“You mean my mother? If my mother knew what I’m doing now, she would feel nothing but comfort and pride. I’m avenging her.” The man’s voice was soft, almost breezy, with a touch of satisfaction. “Why would she blame me? Don’t you think so, Uncle?”

The last word slipped from his lips laced with biting sarcasm.

Xue Zhong’s pupils contracted. “You—what do you mean?”

His vision blurred again due to exhaustion, but he could just make out the man standing up, slowly pacing toward him.

The prison cell was dead silent. When no one spoke, the stillness was suffocating.

In the narrow space, the man’s soft footsteps were amplified—each one like it was landing directly on his chest. It made his heart tighten involuntarily, his entire body tensing.

The closer he came, the clearer his figure became. When the man finally stood directly in front of him, Xue Zhong could clearly see the expression on his face.

From above, he looked down with disdain—cold and commanding.

“The one who killed my mother wasn’t the royal shadow guards. It was you.” The man’s thin lips parted. His tone was even calmer now, but it made it even harder for Xue Zhong to breathe.

“Hahaha—” Xue Zhong suddenly laughed. “Me? Now that I’ve fallen into your hands, if you want to kill me, you don’t need a reason. Why bother pinning a fabricated crime on me?”

“You’re right. If I wanted to kill you, it would be as easy as flipping my hand. Why bother going out of my way to pin a crime on you?” the man said, turning back. He turned and walked away slowly. “I only said it so you’d understand that there’s no burden in killing you. Because you deserve to die. Whether you admit it or not is irrelevant. I just wanted you to die knowing why.”

Behind him, Xue Zhong’s cloudy eyes flickered with rapid shifts of light—that was uncertainty.

Uncertainty over whether he truly had evidence, or was just bluffing.

“Drag him out,” Feng Qingbai ordered. “I’ve had enough fun over the past month. From now on, don’t give him any more food. Once he dies, toss him into the mass grave and report it.”

He walked away without another glance, his words cold-blooded enough to crush all hope.

Xue Zhong’s heart clenched tightly, disbelief flooding his eyes.

Was Feng Qingbai really done? He no longer cared whether he lived or died? Did that mean Xue Qinglian… was dead? Really dead? Or alive?

Did Feng Qingbai want him dead because he truly intended to kill him—or was this just another layer of psychological warfare?

Was this still a mind game? No. No, it wasn’t. Feng Qingbai truly meant to kill him!

He had just said he wouldn’t come again.

That meant he no longer planned to extract anything from him.

Feng Qingbo had discarded his value.

As for something without value? There was no longer needed to be kept alive.

Xue Zhong’s eyes flew wide open. He opened his mouth, wanting to call the man back. He had something to say, but no matter how hard he tried, no sound came out.

He could only watch helplessly as the man walked farther and farther away, until his vision went black and he lost consciousness.

When Feng Qingbo returned to the royal residence, Liu Yusheng had just finished a surgery and walked out of the room, the exhaustion on her face plainly visible.

After three hours of intense concentration, the other four were nearly collapsing from fatigue.

As soon as they left the operating room and saw the King, they didn’t even have the strength to properly salute. With a quick excuse, they immediately headed straight for their own rooms to rest.

Qian Wanjin and Shi Xianrou had been waiting outside the operating room, and after regrouping, they all went to the main hall.

As soon as they sat down, Qian Wanjin couldn’t wait to ask, “Well? That old bastard, he’s finally breaking, isn’t he?”

“Almost,” Feng Qingbai replied, pulling Liu Yusheng into his arms to let her rest against him for a while.

Knowing how tired she was, he didn’t ask her to return to her room. He knew that instead of sleeping, what she really wanted now was to hear the outcome.

“In a few more days, Xue Zhong’s defenses will completely collapse. Then it’ll come down to one last gamble. As long as nothing goes wrong, he’s sure to play his final card to save his own life.”

“Who would’ve thought a cripple like him could hold out this long? It’s been a full month just to get him to barely believe that he no longer has any leverage. That old fox is just as cunning as Feng Qingbai himself,” Qian Wanjin scoffed.

In his eyes, Feng Qingbai was ‘the best’ in every possible way.

And anything or anyone capable of matching him in any aspect was bound to be extremely troublesome.

“Xue Zhong is a deep and unfathomable man. Will he really believe that Qinglian is dead?” Liu Yusheng asked, unsure.

Feng Qingbai smiled faintly. “Whether he believes it or not, there’s one thing he’ll have to face: whether Xue Qinglian is dead or not, he’s no longer a bargaining chip he can use to hold us back. So Xue Zhong must reveal another card if he wants to save his own life.”

“Xue Zhong is afraid of death,” Shi Xianrou said, with no small amount of contempt in her voice.

“He’s schemed for over a decade and done so many things. How could he be willing to die so easily?” After a pause, a cold glint flashed in Feng Qingbai’s eyes. “Today’s test also confirmed one thing for me: my mother’s death back then very likely had something to do with him!”

Liu Yusheng’s heavy eyelids instantly flew open, and she sat up straight in shock. “He admitted it?”

“Of course he didn’t admit it, but his evasive words and flickering gaze were the biggest giveaway,” the man said, his body radiating an intense chill. Liu Yusheng immediately reached out and pulled him into a tight embrace.

Even though it had been over a decade, that fire was still a wound on his heart that would never fully heal.

Something he could never forget.

The flower hall fell into a heavy silence.

Qian Wanjin knew all about that incident. He’d even seen Feng Qingbai lose his mind over it once.

To break the suffocating atmosphere, Qian Wanjin gave a deliberate cough and asked, “You mentioned one last game. When are you going back to give that bastard another round of beating? Call me when you go. I’m coming too.”

He loved nothing more than punishing the wicked.

And it would also help Feng Qingbai blow off some steam.

“I won’t be going to see him again,” Feng Qingbai said, curling his lips into a cold smile. “And I won’t need to lay another hand on him. Very soon… he’ll be begging to see me.”
