Chapter 933: He Tortures Him, Really Ruthless
Bai Zhu was an experienced old doctor. He was somewhat surprised to be chosen by the princess consort at his age, and even more determined to cherish this rare opportunity. His visit had nothing to do with personal gain; he simply wanted to witness the skills of the Little Divine Doctor in person.
He had heard all the rumors about her.
Especially the story where she once performed a craniotomy to remove a tumor from a general, saving someone who was on the brink of death. That left the deepest impression on him.
Now, having the honor to witness such medical skills firsthand, the old doctor felt his blood boil with excitement just thinking about it.
He knew that doctors were often possessive of their skills. Even when taking on apprentices, they rarely taught everything they knew, fearing the apprentice might surpass and leave the master behind. A doctor like Her Highness, who boldly displayed her unique medical skills openly in front of other doctors, was something he had only seen once before.
Qi Xin’s eyes also sparkled brightly. “I will memorize all of these thoroughly and will not disappoint Your Highness!”
Looking at the two excited people, Liu Yusheng said, “These tools are not many, so memorizing them shouldn’t be difficult. But to memorize them and then quickly and accurately hand me the instruments I need at the fastest speed—that’s not easy. I will test you after three days.”
Then she turned to Zisu and Chen Xiang, “You two must also take this seriously. A doctor’s hands handle lives; even the slightest negligence is unacceptable.”
“Understood, Your Highness!”
Chen Xiang and Zisu answered louder than usual, their excitement and joy no less than Bai Zhu and Qi Xin’s.
Because from today on, their roles would no longer be just maidservants. They would become indispensable assistants to the princess.
Knowing all the preparations Liu Yusheng had made, if he weren’t the one about to undergo surgery, Xue Qinglian would have wanted to get up and personally participate in the operation.
Surgery—that was the only thing he hadn’t thoroughly learned from her ever since meeting her. Even though he had dissected countless chicks and rabbits, when it came to performing surgery independently, he still felt overwhelmed.
It was damn hard! And because he lacked confidence, he hadn’t successfully led a surgery on his own to this day.
Chicken-hearted.
“Lucky Nannan, when the time comes, could you let me be a little more conscious, so I can watch your surgery in person?” No matter how he thought about it, he felt reluctant. So when the woman came over to give him medicine to keep the veins at the incision site alive, Xue Qinglian proposed it.
After the toxins in his body were cleared a few days ago, the pain had been reduced to a subtle level, and he could finally speak clearly.
“Let you be conscious? Setting aside whether you can bear that kind of pain, are you sure you won’t pee yourself if you watch me cutting your skin and bones?” The woman tidied up the medicine box and raised an eyebrow at him faintly.
“…Lucky Nannan, are you really a woman?” She was saying a man would pee himself so casually without any sense of taboo. Was she really a woman?
“I gave birth to two kids just a few months ago.”
Xue Qinglian didn’t want to respond.
Ever since she married Feng Qingbai, her way of speaking and doing things had become more and more like that guy—truly good at messing people over.
Never letting herself lose out anywhere.
Just as the woman was about to leave, he wasn’t willing to give up. “I’ve at least faced death refusing treatment before. I’ve seen all kinds of situations. Having my tendons and bones worked on by myself is no problem. Nannan, how about starting with my foot first? Maybe I can sit up and operate on myself, help lighten your burden. What do you think?”
Pinching a needle with his left hand and threading with his right, stitching up his own tendons—just imagining that scene made Xue Qinglian tremble with excitement.
Liu Yusheng stopped in her tracks and gave him a faint glare, already full of helplessness in her eyes.
“We’ve worked together before, perfectly in sync. A partner like me is hard to find, truly one of a kind.”
“To be crazy enough to be like this in medical skill, you’re also one of a kind.”
“Want to try once?”
Liu Yusheng gritted her teeth and forced out a smile that was anything but kind. “Sure, why don’t you first try to see if you can sit up. Try if your fingers can move?”
After speaking, she turned and walked away.
Even if he could move, she absolutely wouldn’t let him operate on himself.
Suturing tendons and veins wasn’t something to joke about. One tiny mistake and he’d be crippled for life. How could he be so reckless!
The man still wasn’t willing to give up. He raised his voice, pleading, “How about I don’t operate, I just watch? Just watch, okay? I promise I won’t move a bit when you’re sewing the stitches! I definitely won’t make things harder for you, alright?”
The only reply he got was the sharp sound of the door slamming. The woman was too lazy to even respond.
Collapsing on the bed, Xue Qinglian sighed: “If only I could move… How about Nannan treating other areas first, and saving my leg for later?”
Three days passed in the blink of an eye. Liu Yusheng was fairly satisfied with the assessment of the four. At least, they all met her requirements.
That was enough for her. She only needed them to assist as nurses during the surgeries.
The first surgery began two days later. Everything was ready. This was also the longest surgery she had ever performed in her life.
To stitch and restore a person’s entire broken tendons required countless repetitions of intensely focused operations.
Everyone was on high alert. During every surgery, Qian Wanjin and Shi Xianrou stood guard outside the door, only leaving once they received news the surgery was successfully completed.
The only person relaxed during this long process was Xue Qinglian himself.
Lying down to sleep, and waking up with a bit of rest brought slight improvement to his condition. He was just like a withered old tree slowly regaining vitality, bit by bit.
That feeling was incredibly subtle.
Bai Zhu, Qi Xin, as well as Zisu and Chen Xiang, gradually improved through constant cooperation. From the initial panic and nervousness, they became increasingly in sync and skilled in their roles.
During the surgery, their teamwork grew smoother and more efficient.
While Liu Yusheng was completely focused on the operations, Feng Qingbai was far from idle.
Taking advantage of the times when Xue Qinglian was under anesthesia during surgery, he used every possible method to break down Xue Zhong’s psychological defenses.
Nearly a month’s time was more than enough to shatter a man’s pride.
His relentless, ruthless tactics pushed Xue Zhong’s mental defenses to the brink of collapse.
The prison was dark and damp, and the torture instruments hanging on the walls were stained with blood—just one glance could send a chill down anyone’s spine.
The entire space was filled with a nauseating stench of blood.
The man tied to the rack was skin and bones, already tortured to the point of being unrecognizable. His wide-open eyes, barely held open by willpower, appeared disturbingly hollow and terrifying.
“Where is Xue Qinglian…” the man on the rack asked weakly, his voice barely audible.
“What do you think?” responded the elegant man sitting across from him with a calm question.
Dressed in noble purple robes, refined and graceful, he looked completely out of place in the filth of the prison.
Yet, as he sat there, nothing felt amiss, because everything around him faded into the background under the light of his presence.
Xue Zhong’s gaze was unfocused. He tried desperately to read the man’s expression, to catch even the slightest clue from it, but even that simple act was now beyond him.
The man had tortured him without holding back in the slightest.
So ruthless.
