Chapter 916: Can No Longer Have Children With You

Liu Zhiqiu was brought back by villagers passing through Xiaoqiao Village.

When Liu Yusheng heard the servants report this, she was stunned for a long moment before coming to her senses.

Ignoring the two little ones still crying nearby, she rushed out.

In the main hall, several men were present.

Liu Zhiqiu lay on the wooden couch in the hall, his face and body covered with scratches and bruises, bloodstained and looking utterly miserable.

He was awake, however. Xue Qinglian was checking his pulse, while Feng Qingbai and Qin Xiao sat nearby with grave expressions.

Seeing this, Liu Yusheng’s heart jumped.

Meanwhile, Liu Muqiu and the elders, including their grandparents, had just arrived at the warm spring guided by the servants. They hadn’t yet had time to admire the beautiful scenery of mountains and clear waters before someone came running fast, out of breath.

“Your Majesty, Elder Master, Elder Madam… it’s… it’s bad! Second Young Master fell from his horse and was injured!”

The cheerful voices instantly fell silent. Everyone was stunned, unable to come to their senses for a long moment.

A white figure shot out like an arrow, running straight downhill, not even hearing the servant’s words trailing behind: “Fortunately, Second Young Master’s injuries are not too severe.”

“Hurry, go back and check on him! That troublesome kid. He’s not comfortable unless he’s causing trouble every day!” The servant’s words calmed them somewhat.

Grandma Liu frowned, took the slightly relieved Du Juan and Liu Erlin, and hurried down the hill. Grandpa Liu and Liu Erlin quickly followed behind.

They were almost scared to death by the sudden news, but thankfully the injuries weren’t too serious. Once they got back, they’d definitely give that kid a good scolding!

Trouble never takes a break!

“Let’s go, help this Empress back,” the Empress Dowager ordered the old maid to support her, following behind the others without getting upset about being left behind.

She understood exactly how a mother feels when her child is in trouble.

As Liu Muqiu ran back, her mind was blank. She couldn’t think of anything except that Zhiqiu had fallen from his horse and was injured.

Before even reaching the manor, she already began struggling to catch her breath. Her frail body couldn’t handle the fast, urgent sprint. Dizziness and black spots flickered before her eyes, and her legs felt as heavy as if weighted down with stones, barely able to move, but she refused to stop.

She just wanted to see him immediately, to see his injuries with her own eyes. Falling from a horse, being thrown off—she couldn’t even bear to imagine how much it must have hurt!

Summoning every last bit of strength, she pushed herself back to the manor and rushed into the bustling main hall. There she saw the man lying on the wooden couch, covered in blood stains, his face pale.

When he saw her, he gave a weak smile.

Standing nearby were Feng Qingbai, Liu Yusheng, Xue Qinglian, and General Qin—all with grim expressions.

Liu Muqiu’s heart ached with pain, coldness, and heaviness, her face even paler than the injured man lying on the couch.

“Little White Lotus,” the man on the couch called her.

That gentle call made her tears burst forth uncontrollably, instantly blurring her vision.

Stiffly, she walked to the couch and knelt down, holding his somewhat cool hand. Through a mist of tears, she looked at him, her vision blurry, and asked, “Does it hurt?”

“No, it doesn’t.”

Liu Muqiu’s tears fell even faster as she stared at him. “…But I’m hurting. Hurting so much… How could you be so careless? How… so careless…”

She loved him so deeply that even a slight frown from him would make her feel distressed. Now that he was injured like this, how could he understand how much she hurt?

Through the watery haze, she sensed his gaze but couldn’t see the deep intensity in his eyes. She only heard his voice, tinged with helplessness, say, “I really don’t hurt. These are just surface wounds, minor injuries. Just a little problem.”

She squeezed his hand tightly, eyes wide and brimming with tears, not daring to speak.

Since entering and seeing him lying there, and the grim expressions on Nannan and the others, she hadn’t dared to ask about the extent of his injuries, holding it all in quietly.

“Little White Lotus, do you like children?” the man suddenly asked. Then, as if unaware of her rapidly cooling fingertips, his tone was even more helpless, tinged with some guilt. “Even if you like them, there’s no way. I won’t be able to have children with you anymore.”

“What… what do you mean?” Liu Muqiu was stunned for a long moment, then stopped crying and asked blankly.

“That brat, what do you mean by not being able to have children?” Outside the hall, Du Juan’s loud voice carried in, and the elders of the Liu family were rushing back.

When they entered the hall, the elders all looked very grim—worried, anxious, angry, and shocked.

Liu Zhiqiu sighed, looking at his father and mother with guilt in his eyes. “Father, mother, why don’t you two have another one or two sons while you’re still not too old?” As he spoke, he subtly signaled to Xue Qinglian.

Before Du Juan could get angry, Xue Qinglian stood up and said, “Zhiqiu’s injuries aren’t serious, and everything else is fine. It’s just that when he fell, some unlucky parts were injured—parts that shouldn’t have been hurt. In the future, he might… cough… might not be able to carry on the family line. Like a eunuch in the palace.”

Seeing the elders’ faces instantly change color because of her words, Xue Qinglian couldn’t keep his composure either, inwardly cursing Liu Zhiqiu fiercely.

Why did they have to ask him to do this kind of thing, which went against medical ethics? Just because he liked poisoning people, just because he often turned a blind eye to dying patients; did that mean he was not a real doctor? That he had no medical ethics?

If the elders of the Liu family ever find out the truth—that he aided and abetted this deception—he might never be allowed to set foot in the Liu family’s compound again.

Inside the hall, Xue Qinglian’s words brought a sudden silence.

After a long pause, Grandpa Liu asked, “Is it a possibility, or is it certain?”

Xue Qinglian braced himself. “It’s a possibility, but the chance of recovery is very slim. He’ll likely be like this for the rest of his life, unless there’s a miracle.”

With a pale face, Grandma Liu looked at Liu Yusheng along with Du Juan. “Nannan, is it true? Even you… you have no way?”

Seeing the expressions on her grandparents, parents, and second uncle and aunt, Liu Yusheng’s breath hitched. She almost blurted out the truth.

But before she could speak, Feng Qingbai gently interjected, “Everyone—Qinglian’s medical skills are no less than Nannan’s. Since he’s made the diagnosis, he won’t be wrong.”

Xue Qinglian glared at Feng Qingbai’s hypocritical face, his eyes burning red with fury.

With those words, Feng Qingbai had completely shifted all the responsibility onto him! If the truth ever came out, it would have nothing to do with Lucky Nannan or anyone else. It would be his diagnosis, Xue Qinglian’s fault!

Damn it! How did he not foresee that Feng Qingbai would sell him down the river like this?

He had always known what kind of person Feng Qingbai was, yet he still got close to him. He might as well have signed his own death warrant! Screw your ancestors, Feng Qingbai!

Thanks to Feng Qingbai’s ‘confirmation,’ the entire hall fell into heavy silence. No one had the mental bandwidth to notice the twisted expression on Xue Qinglian’s face at that moment.

Still fuming inside, Xue Qinglian suddenly got kicked in the foot by the man on the couch. Clearly, the act wasn’t over yet.

Wiping his face with forced effort, he forced out a stiff smile. “Aside from that issue, Zhiqiu is perfectly fine! Same as always—eating, running, jumping, full of energy. As for those surface wounds, he’ll be able to get out of bed and ride again by this afternoon, hahahaha!”

Liu Zhiqiu’s eye twitched slightly, but he pretended not to see.

If Feng Qingbai was going to sacrifice him, then he was going to drag Feng Qingbai’s brother-in-law down with him. He had to get some revenge. Otherwise, it just wouldn’t sit right.
