Chapter 883: I Ask, You Answer
“Nannan, you’re awake? Good Lord, you gave Grandma quite a scare just now. I shook you for a long time and you didn’t respond!” As soon as the woman woke up, Grandma Liu patted her chest in relief, letting out a long sigh.
The worry in the Empress Dowager’s eyes also quietly faded away when she saw the woman awaken.
Only Feng Qingbai remained with eyes as deep and unreadable as ever. He said nothing, merely reached out and gently touched the woman’s cheek. “Baidou and Hongdou are hungry. Can they feed now? If you’re not feeling well, just lie down and rest. Let them drink some rice soup instead.”
The two little ones who couldn’t speak yet: “……”
Liu Yusheng chuckled and shook her head. “I’m not tired, just still a bit weak after giving birth, so I slept deeply.”
The moment she opened her eyes and saw the worried faces in front of her, she felt at peace.
If she had it, she was fortunate. If she didn’t, it was fate. Even without her space, her medical skills remained. It was just that using medicine wouldn’t be as convenient.
Besides, her true treasure had never been that space. It had always been these loved ones by her side.
When the two little ones saw their mother awake, they babbled excitedly, clearly eager and adorable beyond words.
The Empress Dowager placed Xiao Badou into Liu Yusheng’s arms, along with Hongdou, so both could feed at the same time.
Fortunately, Liu Yusheng had enough stored up, or else there wouldn’t have been enough for the two little ones to fight over.
Once the babies were handed over, the two older women left the room and returned to the adjoining chamber to wait. They would have to take the well-fed little ones back later. Although it was already late, the Empress Dowager showed no urgency to return to the palace.
After spending just a short while here today, she inexplicably felt that her own Yangxin Hall was incredibly lonely.
Too quiet.
So quiet that just thinking about it made one feel a deep sense of desolation and emptiness.
In the master bedroom, there was the constant sound of sucking. Every time it was time to nurse, the two babies were particularly fierce. Once they saw their ‘treasure,’ they immediately latched on and wouldn’t let go until they had eaten themselves to sleep.
“What happened just now?” Sitting beside her, Feng Qingbai supported one of the babies to ease the burden on her arms, and at the same time, asked the question.
Just as she understood him well, he too understood her. Even the slightest change in her demeanor, he could sense instantly.
Liu Yusheng knew she couldn’t hide anything from him. Rather than keeping secrets, she preferred to be honest with him.
Taking advantage of the way he was helping her hold the baby, she freed one hand and, right in front of him, conjured something out of thin air.
Suddenly, a medicinal herb appeared in her hand. As Feng Qingbai’s eyes widened in shock, the herb vanished again.
She repeated this several times.
Then she smiled, savoring one of the rare moments in life where the man was utterly dumbfounded.
Feng Qingbai’s breathing quickened. If not for his extraordinary self-control, he might not have been able to hold up the two tiny, weightless bundles in his arms.
“Shengsheng, what is this all about?” he asked, staring at her intently, his voice hoarse.
“Are you scared?”
“No. I’m only worried if you’ll be alright.”
In this world, the only thing that could truly frighten him was losing her.
Everything else, even if the heavens and earth were flipped upside down, couldn’t make him feel fear.
Liu Yusheng smiled gently. She knew he would never be afraid of her.
“This is another secret of mine, aside from reincarnating into this life. I didn’t tell you before, not to keep it from you on purpose, but to give you some time to take everything in.”
“You were worried that one shock after another would drive me insane?” Feng Qingbai rubbed his forehead.
The woman burst into laughter and playfully winked. “If you were scared off, who would compensate me for my one-of-a-kind husband?”
Feng Qingbai: “……” He forgave her—just like that.
All it took was one flirtatious word, one coy glance, and he was utterly helpless.
“There’s a space inside my body. I had it even before I was reborn, and unexpectedly, I brought it with me after rebirth. It’s like an illusion crafted by the gods—vast and magical. It has medicinal fields, a spiritual spring pool, and a small bamboo building that can be used as a warehouse. It can hold a lot of things. The herbs grown in the medicinal fields can be used in the real world. And the potion in the jade gourd pendant I gave you—that’s actually pure spiritual spring water from the pool. You’ve seen its effects yourself.”
After his initial shock, Feng Qingbai’s expression returned to calm, showing no further emotional turbulence. He accepted her incredible words, which would sound absurd to anyone else, with complete ease.
“And then?” he asked.
Clearly something had gone wrong, otherwise Shengsheng wouldn’t have fallen into such a deep sleep, frowning even in her dreams.
“The space has always functioned perfectly. But after giving birth this time, it suddenly changed drastically.”
With that, Liu Yusheng explained all the changes in the space to Feng Qingbai, ending with a helpless expression. “I can’t figure out what caused the sudden transformation, and I don’t know if it’ll ever return to the way it was.”
“It doesn’t matter. Even without that space, you’re still you.” Feng Qingbai leaned in and kissed her cheek, smiling.
As long as she was safe, nothing else mattered.
Liu Yusheng smiled softly and nodded.
She wasn’t afraid of losing the space—just regretful. Without it, she wouldn’t be able to help Feng Qingbai as effectively.
Like the spiritual spring water. It had been a life-saving remedy in critical moments. Without it, Feng Qingbai’s safety would be much more at risk.
He constantly faced danger, given his position. That was what worried her most.
SLURP-SLURP — the two little ones in her arms were still nursing with complete abandon. Liu Yusheng looked down at them, the smile on her lips softening even more.
Xiao Hongdou suddenly opened her eyes mid-feeding. Her tiny hand reached up and touched Liu Yusheng’s forehead.
A wave of coolness spread rapidly from the spot she touched—familiar and unmistakable.
Liu Yusheng’s eyes flew wide open in shock.
“Shengsheng?”
“F-Feng Qingbai!” Her trembling voice instantly made his heart clench, only to hear her continue,
“When I was in that deep sleep just now, my consciousness was floating inside the space in a daze. Then suddenly, a wave of coolness passed through my mind—that’s what woke me up!”
She stared intently at Xiao Hongdou, lips trembling. “Just now when Hongdou touched me. That was the same cool sensation!”
“……”
“And there’s something else I forgot to tell you. When I first found out I was pregnant, I suddenly fainted. My consciousness fell into the space again, and I saw two little shiny orbs chasing each other around me, laughing and playing. But… but after the babies were born, those two orbs disappeared…”
Their eyes met, then turned in unison to the two little ones, who were still vigorously nursing like their lives depended on it. The couple wore identical expressions of shock and suspicion.
After a moment, Feng Qingbai raised an eyebrow and reached out again to grab Xiao Badou by the foot, lifting him upside down. Despite the flailing arms and legs, the wide-eyed glares, and his attempts at looking fierce and pitiful, Feng Qingbai didn’t let go.
Of course, Baidou didn’t let go either.
Father and son stared each other down like a showdown—whoever gave in first would lose.
Off to the side, Xiao Hongdou, who hadn’t yet fallen victim to this treatment, immediately increased her nursing speed at the sight.
Liu Yusheng twitched at the corner of her eye. Were they really this sentient?
She had been reborn with her memories intact, so it was understandable that she’d shown signs of intelligence from an early age. But these two little ones—what were they exactly?
Had they been reborn too? Or, as she suspected, were they spirits born from the essence of the space itself?
Next to her, the shameless father was already pinching Baidou’s little mouth shut to make him release his grip. Curling his lips into a cold smile, he said: “I ask, you answer. Blink once for yes, twice for no!”
