FID – Chapter 876

Chapter 876: Triple Strike

In the adjoining room, the Empress Dowager had instructed the old matron but still felt uneasy.

That rough-handed woman, Grandma Liu, even had calluses on her fingers. Changing clothes for the two babies might scratch their delicate skin!

It was better if she did it herself for peace of mind.

With that thought, she stepped out of the room, and just as she crossed the doorway, she saw Xue Qinglian under the corridor eaves, clutching a golden needle high in the air, about to stab down hard.

On the ground lay the unconscious Feng Qingbai.

Her expression changed sharply as she shouted, “What are you doing?!”

Such a huge needle—did she want to kill him?!

Startled by the sudden sharp command, Xue Qinglian’s hand trembled, and he nearly dropped the needle.

Because of that hesitation, the man on the floor suddenly opened his long eyes wide, and in the next moment, he and Qian Wanjin were thrown flying again.

“Damn you, you sanctimonious bastard!”

“Feng Qingbai, you beast!”

THUD! THUD! — The sounds were satisfyingly loud.

The man on the ground got up, casually glanced at the two sprawled against the wall, then turned and walked toward the master bedroom.

The two leaned against the wall slowly slid down, lying there for a long time, unable to get up.

Stars flashed in their eyes.

Qian Wanjin clenched his fists tightly, grinding his steel teeth.

He knew it!

“Shengsheng!”

As soon as Feng Qingbai entered the room, he rushed to the bedside, only to find that the woman on the bed had already fallen into a deep sleep.

Nearby, several midwives and maids were wrapping up bloodied clothes and bedding, preparing to dispose of them.

Grandma Liu and Chen Xiulan both made a ‘Shhh’ gesture at him, signaling for him not to wake the sleeping woman.

“Come here, you’re a father now. You haven’t even looked at your two babies yet,” Grandma Liu called him over, smiling helplessly.

Who would’ve thought such a grown man could get so nervous he’d pass out?

Lightening his steps, Feng Qingbai slowly walked over to where the babies lay.

They looked like little dolls—carved from pink jade, delicate and flawless.

Their features held traces of both him and Shengsheng.

He raised his hand to gently hover it over the babies’ cheeks, not daring to touch them for fear that even the slightest pressure might hurt them.

They were so tiny, small enough to fit entirely in the palm of his hand.

And yet, so small, they had caused Shengsheng so much pain.

The tenderness swelling in his chest suddenly turned into anger and guilt. Not wanting to touch his daughter, he turned and gave his son’s little bottom a light smack.

Once he grows up a bit, he’s definitely getting a spanking!

“Aiyo, what are you doing! Why are you spanking such a tiny baby on the butt? And you call yourself a father!” Grandma Liu immediately scolded him, heart aching as she glared at Feng Qingbai. Then she shoved the baby into his arms. “Here, hold him for a bit. A father should act like a father. You’ve got a son and a daughter now. You’re officially a grown-up!”

Feng Qingbai hurriedly and awkwardly caught the baby. Just as he managed to steady him, the baby  who had been quietly lying there with eyes closed suddenly opened his eyes and stared straight at him. And then—

“Hsss——”

A foul stench hit him.

Feng Qingbai stiffly lowered his gaze. On the hem of his brocade robe was something commonly known as ‘poop.’

“Aiya! What are the odds! How did Bao’er choose now to pass his meconium?” Grandma Liu exclaimed in surprise. “Hold him for a minute, and I’ll call someone to bring water. We have to wash his little butt right away!”

The culprit had plenty of concerned individuals. The victim, however, was thoroughly ignored.

Just as the old lady turned to instruct the maid, another sound followed—

Swoosh—pitter-patter…

She looked back.

Xiao Bao’er peed.

A long arc landed squarely on the man’s face.

The wise and mighty King didn’t manage to dodge this sneak attack.

The room fell silent. Everyone who witnessed the scene had slightly twisted expressions on their faces.

Water dripped down his face. The King’s robes and his entire being were in an utter mess.

Feng Qingbai squeezed his eyes shut, gritted his teeth, and when he opened them again, flames of rage flickered in his gaze. “You little rascal—!”

“Smack!” A tiny foot landed right on his face.

“……”

“Pfft!” At the doorway, the Empress Dowager finally couldn’t hold it in anymore and turned away, laughing until tears streamed down her face.

Inside the room, Grandma Liu didn’t even try to restrain herself and burst into hearty laughter. “Hahaha! Aiyo, our Xiao Bao’er really has some strength in those tiny arms and legs! Just look at your father, his face got crooked from his kick! He’s definitely going to grow up strong!”

Chen Xiulan, Du Juan, and Liu Muqiu tried not to laugh too wildly, but their shoulders trembled from holding it in.

Feng Qingbai shut his eyes in resignation. “Someone, clean up the little prince!”

If this wasn’t his son, he’d have thrown him out already!

Handing the hot potato to a maid, Feng Qingbai turned and left without a second thought. He was far too filthy and needed to change clothes.

He couldn’t possibly go near Shengsheng reeking like this.

As for the baby girl, it wasn’t that he didn’t want to hold her. He didn’t dare.

A triple combo was more than enough. There was absolutely no need for a repeat performance.

Being naturally sharp and observant, Feng Qingbai had clearly noticed that when the ‘hot potato’ unleashed his fury, the baby girl beside him had opened her eyes—and they were gleaming with terrifying brightness!

That was the look of someone itching to act!

She was just born, yet already ready to become a little devil!

Walking out of the room and ignoring the crowd of people with strange looks in their eyes at the door, Feng Qingbai marched straight to the bathhouse to soak and burn incense.

He absolutely could not let Shengsheng see him in such a humiliating state!

All that ‘joy of becoming a father’ nonsense was utter crap!

In less than an hour since the birth of his twins, the mighty King had plummeted from his pedestal.

After he left, the Empress Dowager entered the room. Noticing that the babies were not wearing the tiny clothes she had personally made, but rather a visibly worn outfit with frayed cuffs and collar, she immediately frowned.

“What is this outfit? The Liu family isn’t poor. Why are they dressing Xiao Bao’er in old clothes?”

“You just don’t understand, Your Majesty,” Grandma Liu retorted. “This is called a Hundred Families Robe. Before I came here, I went around and collected pieces from many households. Don’t be fooled just because others have worn it. This kind of clothing is better than brand new. It’s softer and carries the blessings of a hundred families!”

“Old clothes gathered from other people’s homes?” The Empress Dowager was truly angered, her silver hair trembling. “How could you dress the twins in hand-me-downs! They are the heir and young lady of the Nanling royal household—of noble birth! You, you! Ignorant country woman!”

With a wave of her sleeve, she barked, “Someone! Bring the clothes my attendant prepared and dress the young heir and young lady properly!”

“Wait a minute! Did you just call me a country woman?” Grandma Liu wasn’t having it. She rolled up her sleeves. “Now that’s unfair. I might not know how to read a single word, but I’m definitely not ignorant! Hundred Families Robe, a robe from a hundred families, brings a hundred families’ blessings! That is what real fortune is! With this on, the children will be overflowing with good luck!”

“If we’re talking about fortune, who in the entire empire has more than I do? Clothes sewn by my own hand carry true blessings. People beg for them!”

“That’s just noble status! What does that have to do with actual luck? The babies are born as heir and young lady of the royal house. They’re already noble enough! They don’t need your little extras!”

“You—! Someone, change their clothes!”

“Don’t you dare! New clothes are too rough on the skin!”

“I’ve already washed them!”

“Washed or not, no one’s worn them. They’re still stiff!”

“Clothes worn by others are still second-hand! How could the heirs of the royal house wear cast-offs?”

Neither side would back down, and their voices grew louder and louder. On the bed, Liu Yusheng had just woken up. Before she even opened her eyes, she could already sense the brewing trouble. “Grandma, Your Majesty, please… stop arguing…”

The two old ladies turned their heads at the same time and spoke in unison, “Nannan, you decide. What should the babies wear?”

“……” Liu Yusheng tilted her head and fell back asleep.
