Chapter 856 – This Thing Wasn’t Even Made by Alchemy!
After receiving Liu Yusheng’s message, Qian Wanjin immediately rushed to the royal residence.
Upon reaching Liuyun Pavilion, he completely ignored the warning sign at the door, kicked open Xue Qinglian’s room, stormed in, and grabbed Xue Qinglian’s face, examining it from all angles.
“Is it Qing or Hong? Speak up! Are you Xue Honglian in disguise? Pretending to be Xue Qinglian so you can move into the prince’s residence, lower everyone’s guard, and then seize the chance to assassinate Feng Qingbai?!”
The next second, Qian Wanjin was flat on the ground, sprawled out at Xue Qinglian’s feet. The latter looked down at him with a sideways glance and said, “Idiot.”
“Holy shit! Xue Qinglian, it is you, you damn bastard!” Qian Wanjin cursed from the floor. “You disappeared for over half a year without a single word. Why the hell are you even back?!”
His tone was as fierce as ever, completely unaffected by his undignified position. Even lying down, he still radiated the unmistakable presence of Xiao Jinzi.
After all, he knew Xue Qinglian wouldn’t actually kill him, so why not lie there and curse him out?
Xue Qinglian sneered, “What, do I have to report to you when I come back? You’re not my damn father.”
Qian Wanjin shot back, “You want me to be your father? I’m not about to take in a son as old as you!”
“Piss off!”
“Help me up and I’ll gladly piss off! I don’t even want to look at your ugly face!”
“You barged into my room and think you can leave that easily? Did you think that warning sign at the door was just for show? Since you’re here—don’t even think about leaving!”
Qian Wanjin shuddered slightly. When he saw Xue Qinglian crouch down beside him with a dagger in hand, his eyes went wide with fear. “H-Hey! What are you doing? Xue Qinglian, I’m warning you. If you so much as touch me, my Xiao Shitou will come for you with everything she’s got!”
“With you as a burial companion, it’s totally worth it.”
Seeing the man actually grab his hand and bring the dagger down, Qian Wanjin squeezed his eyes shut and wailed like a ghost, “Xue Qinglian! Hero Xue! Divine Doctor Xue! Brother Qinglian, have mercy! I’ll never mess around again!”
“Coward.” Xue Qinglian rolled his eyes. “What are you screaming for? Just a tiny cut and you’re about to wet your pants? And you had the nerve to come here shouting at me?”
Qian Wanjin cracked one eye open and peeked at his arm. It was still smooth and unblemished, not a single trace of blood or injury—no wonder it hadn’t hurt.
But his finger had a small nick, and blood was quickly staining his hand red.
“Xue Qinglian, screw you bastard! I faint at the sight of my own blood, dammit!”
“Alright, alright, quit the howling. Aren’t you tired? I’ll stop the bleeding for you. Watch carefully.”
“Watch your damn—” Qian Wanjin’s cursing came to an abrupt halt.
He stared as Xue Qinglian wiped his finger, and the bleeding instantly stopped. Qian Wanjin’s mouth hung half-open, and it took a moment before he could speak again. “Not bad, Xue Qinglian! Make more of that stuff, I’ll bring it to Xiao Shitou. She could definitely use it.”
Their Xiao Shitou had to be ready to go to the battlefield at any moment. Blades and arrows don’t discriminate, and getting injured in combat was routine.
With this kind of thing, it would be a life-saving miracle at a critical moment.
After thinking it over, he added, “Still, it’s better to keep this under wraps. There is such a medicine that stops bleeding this fast. If word gets out, you’ll have a line out the door. And if you run into one of those vengeful highborns and don’t give it to them, you’ll be making powerful enemies. There are too many nobles in this world. You can’t give it to them all, can you?”
“This was given to me by Lucky Nannan.”
“……”
With a touch of smugness, Xue Qinglian took out the medicine bottle and waved it in front of Qian Wanjin. “This stuff is practically divine water. From what I know, it can regenerate flesh and even grow back bone. The effect goes way beyond just stopping bleeding. You clueless brat, giving something this good to you is just a waste.”
Qian Wanjin blinked, looked at the bottle. Something about it seemed familiar. He reached into his chest and pulled out an identical one. “I’ve got one too! Back when I was twelve, Lucky Nannan gave me this bottle. Hahahaha!”
He’d gotten it years before Xue Qinglian did.
Serves you right for showing off!
After laughing, the two stared at each other in stunned silence, their eyes growing wider and wider.
“Regrow flesh and bone?!”
“Twelve years old?!”
From each other’s words, both of them realized this wasn’t some ordinary matter.
Qian Wanjin held the bottle in disbelief.
When Nannan gave it to him, she’d told him to keep it safe—that it could save his life in a critical moment. And because it was a gift from her, and she had been so insistent, he had always carried it with him.
But as for her saying it could save his life, he hadn’t taken it seriously. After all, how old had she been back then? Just six. What could a six-year-old possibly know? She used to make a big deal out of little things, so he had just humored her at the time.
But now Xue Qinglian was saying that this stuff could regrow flesh and bone?!
Xue Qinglian, for his part, was just as stunned, his mind replaying Qian Wanjin’s words: Nannan had given him this when he was twelve.
When Qian Wanjin was twelve, Nannan would’ve only been six, right? Even if she was a medical prodigy who started learning in the womb, at six years old, there’s no way she could’ve created such a miraculous medicine!
This stuff couldn’t possibly have been made through alchemy!
The two exchanged a glance, then simultaneously looked at the medicine bottle in Qian Wanjin’s hand.
A moment later, Xue Qinglian snatched it away, poured a single drop into a clean container, and began inspecting it intently—completely ignoring Qian Wanjin’s panicked cries of “Be careful! That stuff is super valuable!”
His eyes were red with focus as he compared the two containers of liquid.
Then Qian Wanjin got cut again.
Amid his loud yelps, he once more witnessed the wound stop bleeding and begin to scab almost instantly. The earlier cut had already started closing, leaving only a faint, narrow scab.
“Xue Qinglian, is Lucky Nannan some kind of fairy from the heavens? Pinch me, I might be dreaming,” Qian Wanjin muttered, eyes wide.
“Stop lying there and get up already,” Xue Qinglian grumbled, rubbing his face.
“How am I supposed to get up without the antidote?”
“The poison’s been neutralized ages ago. You’re just being lazy!”
Face turning green, Qian Wanjin got up and dusted himself off. “Should we go find Nannan?”
“Of course we should, but we have to do it in private. This can’t get out.”
If word spread, would Nannan ever know peace again? Even Feng Qingbai might not be able to protect her if the combined powers of the realm’s nobles turned their eyes on her.
“What are you two doing in there? Yelling and screaming all afternoon; everyone in the back courtyard can hear you!” came a woman’s exasperated voice from the doorway.
Inside the room, there was immediately a loud crash and the sound of someone bumping into furniture followed by a painful howl.
“Nannan, I scattered medicine outside the door. Don’t come in! You’re pregnant!” Xue Qinglian called out loudly while rubbing his knee that had banged against the corner of the table.
Qian Wanjin was the first to bolt, slipping out of the room at lightning speed. On his way out, he knocked over several of Xue Qinglian’s jars and bottles on the table but didn’t say a word—he just ran.
He even remembered to snatch Xue Qinglian’s medicine bottle before leaving.
Liu Yusheng had no idea what the two of them had been up to there. All she saw was Qian Wanjin suddenly dashing up to her with eyes that gleamed brightly—almost eerily.
“What are you doing?” Liu Yusheng took a cautious step back.
Any time Qian Wanjin showed that expression, it was never anything good.
