Chapter 855: He Touched Upon an Earth-Shattering Secret

“Meeting you is the same as meeting him. Whatever he knows, you know too,” Feng Qingbai said calmly.

Xue Qinglian paused for a moment, pulled something from his chest and tossed it to him, then got up and slipped away. “All that traveling has worn me out. I’m exhausted. I’m going to rest for a bit. Call me for dinner.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he was already gone.

“Why did he run off so fast?” Liu Yusheng twitched the corner of her mouth.

“Don’t mind him. With a face as thick as his, he can make himself at home anywhere. You can’t hold him back,” Feng Qingbo said as he tucked the jade pendant into his robe.

The jade pendant was now empty, and thinking of Xue Qinglian’s energetic demeanor just now, it was clear his injuries were no longer an issue. Feng Qingbai smiled.

The friendship between men was probably like this—nothing overly sentimental, maintained lightly. However, when one needed help, the other would always step up.

Someone you could entrust your back to.

The rest didn’t need to be said.

“He was seriously injured?” Despite how quickly the man put the item away, Liu Yusheng still caught a glimpse of the familiar jade hue.

If Feng Qingbai had used the jade pendant, it meant Xue Qinglian must have been hurt badly—possibly even fatally.

“He’s already fine now.”

What he meant was that she didn’t need to worry anymore, but Liu Yusheng still felt a headache coming on.

Who was Xue Qinglian? A research fanatic.

Now that he had used the pure spiritual spring water inside the jade pendant and experienced its effects, would he let her off the hook?

Her days of peace were probably over.

She suddenly had the urge to tell Feng Qingbai to throw him out.

Sure enough, her instincts were right.

Xue Qinglian only behaved himself for one night and that was because he was afraid that if he couldn’t beat Feng Qingbai, he’d get thoroughly thrashed.

The next day, as soon as Feng Qingbai stepped out, Xue Qinglian appeared in front of her like a ghost, eyes glowing green.

“Lucky Nannan, you’ve been hiding something good. We’ve risked our lives together. You should at least share a bit of that treasure, right?” His clean, slender hand reached out in front of Liu Yusheng, and his eyes signaled: Hurry up.

“There’s nothing left,” Liu Yusheng said, turning away from him.

If word got out about that kind of thing, it would throw the whole world into chaos.

Even though she knew Xue Qinglian wouldn’t intentionally cause trouble, he loved to experiment—and whatever he developed, he had to test. Once tested, it’d be easy for others to catch wind of it.

“Alright then. If you won’t give it to me, I’ll just stick with you all day long. I’ve got nothing better to do anyway, and life’s boring. Let’s just hope you don’t get annoyed with me.”

“Are you seriously going to play the scoundrel?”

“I’m heartbroken. I literally risked my life for your man, and you’re still hiding things from me, not willing to give me even a drop?”

“What do you mean?”

The woman turned around, eyes locked onto him.

Xue Qinglian rubbed his chin, clearly struggling over whether to snitch or not. In the end, he decided to snitch.

After all—better him than me.

At worst, he’d take the stuff and go into hiding for a few days. Once Feng Qingbai cooled off, he’d come back.

With a dramatic sweep of his hands, he yanked open his robe, revealing a wound—his badge of honor for ‘taking a knife for a friend’—flashing it briefly before quickly covering up again.

“See that? All for helping Feng Qingbai, your man,” Xue Qinglian said pitifully. “I stabbed myself just to let him go. If that’s not a life-and-death bond, I don’t know what is. And yet you’re still stingy with that bit of potion? How can you justify that to my sincerity?”

“That was Heilian who got stabbed, wasn’t it?”

“…” Xue Qinglian’s eyelids twitched. “Even if he got stabbed, I was the one who felt the pain. It’s still my life on the line. And besides, after we got back, I got a whipping too. He had it easy. He passed out and slipped away, leaving me to bear all the pain. If it weren’t for your potion, you probably wouldn’t be seeing me again. I’m homeless now. I’m really pitiful.”

Looking at the man doing his best to contort his expression into misery, Liu Yusheng held her forehead. “Your skin is really thick.”

Claiming Heilian’s credit without a trace of shame.

Still, she handed him a bottle of potion.

Getting exactly what he wanted, Xue Qinglian left with a grin, cheerfully saying, “As long as you appreciate it, that’s enough.”

After he left, she recalled the scar she had glimpsed earlier—just next to his heart. If it had been half an inch deeper, Xue Qinglian might truly have died.

Liu Yusheng slowly bit her lip.

For Heilian to go so far, taking such a dangerous action to help Feng Qingbai meant the situation back then must have been extremely perilous.

Feng Qingbai must have encountered a serious crisis at the border, yet when he came back, he didn’t mention a word to her.

This man treated her like a delicate flower to be protected. Even knowing she was not as fragile as she appeared, he still couldn’t bear to let her worry in the slightest.

He gave to her selflessly, but asked for so very little in return.

Lowering her head, Liu Yusheng gently placed her hands on her belly, eyes downcast with a soft smile as her eyes grew slightly red. “Your daddy is such a fool, isn’t he?”

And yet, she loved him deeply—just the way he was.

Back in his room, Xue Qinglian immediately sat down at the table and placed a single drop of the potion he had just obtained into a container, staring at it for a long time.

It looked no different from regular drinking water—clear, clean, and odorless.

But he had personally experienced just how miraculous this drop was.

At the time, his back had been torn open down to the bone, a bloody mess. After just one sip of the potion, by the next day, the wounds on his back had already scabbed over and were itching, a sign that they were healing rapidly.

To further test his theory, he had even cut his own arm again, wincing as he applied just a small drop of the potion.

A wound that had been gushing blood formed a blood film almost instantly, and began to close up!

It had scared him so much that he swallowed the very last bit of potion left in the jade pendant right then and there.

Something like this—if accidentally discovered by the wrong people—would throw the entire world into chaos.

He wasn’t sure whether it could raise the dead, but it could definitely regrow flesh and bones. That alone was enough to drive the world mad!

It was so incredible, so precious, that he didn’t even dare carry it on his person.

“Lucky Nannan, just what kind of person are you?” Xue Qinglian murmured softly, turning the medicine bottle in his hand.

This potion didn’t seem like something that had been manually concocted. If it had been, it couldn’t possibly be so colorless, and there was no trace of any herbal scent at all.

If it wasn’t something concocted then where did it come from?

Could Lucky Nannan be hiding some kind of unknown secret?

Xue Qinglian’s eyes darkened as he began to recall everything that had happened since he met her.

Her astonishing medical skills, those bizarre surgical instruments, the strange atmosphere of the Liu family courtyard, and now… this heaven-defying potion—

All of it pointed to one thing: Liu Yusheng was far from ordinary.

He had a strong feeling, a gut instinct, that he might have stumbled upon a secret of incredible magnitude, one just waiting to be uncovered.

Meanwhile, in the sitting room, Liu Yusheng had no idea she was now the subject of suspicion.

Or perhaps… She did know that once this potion ended up in Xue Qinglian’s hands, he was bound to suspect something. But she simply didn’t care.

Because she trusted him.

So after the initial headache passed, she quickly put the matter out of her mind. She instructed her maid to inform the Qian family that Xue Qinglian had returned, and then went back to her room to sleep.

When she woke up again, the Liuyun Pavilion was unusually lively.
