Chapter 776: Planted Five Seeds
That night, all the available information about the two individuals was placed on Feng Qingbai’s desk in the study.
After coaxing his little girl to sleep, he went to the study, picked up the two thin sheets of paper, and skimmed through them.
“This is it?” His voice was calm and indifferent, giving away no emotion.
But Wei Zi knew that meant the master was dissatisfied. He quickly stepped forward and said, “Everything that could be found is in there. For now, we only know the two came to the capital fleeing disaster, and their appearance coincided exactly with the two days before your wedding. Tracing their origins will take a bit more time.”
“Keep digging. Also, assign two more people to the Princess’s side. Pick a female from the newly trained batch in the Shadow Guard Battalion.”
“Yes! What about Wei Lan and Wei Hong?”
“Send them back to Xinghua Village. That place still needs guarding.”
Wei Lan and Wei Hong had accompanied the bridal escort for the wedding, but now that it was over, there was no need for them to remain.
The two Shadow Guards, now completely banished, didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to Liu Yusheng before being thrown out of the capital.
Squatting at the deserted dock, Wei Lan sniffled, nose red from the cold. “His Highness is getting more and more heartless. What harm would it have done to let us say goodbye to Nannan? The next time we meet might not be until the New Year—was that really necessary? It’s not like we’re some seductive men; why’s he so on guard against us?”
Wei Hong crossed her arms and stood ramrod straight. “What difference does it make if we say goodbye or not? Shadow Guards are meant to remain in the shadows. Whether we’re here or not, the young miss wouldn’t know.”
That was true.
Wei Lan rubbed his nose, glanced at Wei Hong, and said, “Aren’t you tired standing like that? No one’s watching here. Come, sit down, relax a bit. Squatting is fine too.”
Wei Hong sneered at his squatting posture, full of disdain.
That was exactly how Auntie Guihua’s big yellow dog squatted to guard the house in the village.
“We’ve been wandering around Cangwu Town for over a decade, watching the younger generation of the Liu family grow up, get married, and have kids. One by one, they’ve all paired up,” Wei Lan began getting sentimental, then cautiously continued, “Dahong, we’ve been together for over ten years, right? Even fighting each other has created some deep feelings. How about… we just make do with each other? Once we get back, let’s get married and spend the rest of our lives together?”
“Okay.”
“Cough-cough-cough-cough!” Wei Lan choked, almost falling into the river.
He looked up at Wei Hong’s profile, stunned into silence for a long time.
After quite a while, a thunderous ‘Goddamn!’ echoed from the dock.
“You really agreed? You actually agreed? Damn it, if I knew you’d be so quick to say yes, I would’ve paired up with you 800 years ago!”
Was there really any need for him to hesitate and worry about being rejected and embarrassed?
Dahong was clearly sent to torment him!
If you were going to agree, you should’ve just said so earlier!
“Idiot,” Wei Hong cursed under her breath, the cold expression on her face momentarily melting.
Back in Beicang, when she had barely escaped with her life, the only thing she truly regretted was not taking care of Wei Lan back then.
Now that he was throwing himself at her, if she didn’t accept, wouldn’t that just waste all those years of flirtation he’d shamelessly dished out?
Before her thoughts could settle, her body suddenly tightened—she’d been hoisted over the man’s shoulder.
“Wei Dalan, what the hell are you doing?”
“Finding an inn to sleep with you!”
“You’re courting death!”
“Come on, we’re people of the Jianghu, we don’t fuss over propriety! Stop yelling about courting this and death that—we’re both over thirty now. Every time we sleep together might be our last, don’t waste it!” Wei Lan was practically vibrating with excitement, sprinting full speed ahead. “Besides, we’re shadow guards. Who knows after sleeping with you this time, I might not make it back from the next mission. Imagine people saying I died a virgin at my age. You know what I’m like. I’d go down to the underworld pissed as hell!”
Wei Hong’s urge to kill him paused for a moment, then she gave up on violence.
“Fine. I’ll leave you a seed. That way, when you die, someone can at least burn incense at your grave.”
Wei Lan stumbled mid-step. “Damn it, can’t you say something nicer?”
“Didn’t you start talking about dying first?”
“That was hypothetical! Do you even know what hypothetical means?”
“You’re the one who assumed you’d die young. I’m just being kind enough to leave you a kid in that scenario. What more do you want?” Her voice was calm and indifferent.
Wei Lan’s face darkened with fury. “Wei Dahong, just wait—once I’m done with you, you’ll be carrying twins! Six kids in three years!”
Hell, he refused to believe that in his entire damn life, Wei Dalan would end up with only one descendant!
On his shoulder, the woman he was carrying let him have his way—but the corners of her eyes held the trace of an invisible smile.
That night, in a certain inn in the capital, a strange pair of guests checked in. From night until dawn, sounds of creaking bedboards, chairs, and tables echoed from their room.
The guests next door barely got any sleep at all.
The next morning, when the inn servant came to wake the guests, he discovered the room was already empty.
But the place was an absolute mess.
The square pearwood table looked like it was about to fall apart, the backrest of a solid wood chair had snapped in half, and the bedframe had broken clean into two pieces. Worst of all, the fine silk bedsheet had a round section torn right out of the middle.
They had paid two taels of silver for the room, but the damages weren’t even covered by that.
Meanwhile, on a passenger boat heading toward Yunzhou, in a small private cabin, the baby-faced man clutched a small square of fabric. Seeing the delicate red plum blossom stains printed on it, he grinned like a fool.
Wei Hong’s face was stormy. “Can you please put that thing away?”
“Of course I’ll put it away!” he replied, hurriedly folding the cloth neatly, tucking it into his chest, and even patting it gently. “Dahong, we’ve finally consummated our relationship. I gotta keep this as a memento!”
“…” Wei Hong closed her eyes and clenched her teeth. She still really wanted to kill this man!
A sudden warmth pressed gently against her lower abdomen.
“Dahong, do you think there might already be five of my seeds growing in there? I mean, I went at it five times last night…”
Bang! Unable to tolerate another word, Wei Hong punched the man squarely in the head, sending him crashing onto the low table.
“Aiyo, my dear heavens. Dahong, this is attempted spousal murder! The babies are in your belly watching, you know! Be gentle, or they’ll learn from you and end up just like you! Raising kids starts with leading by example—”
“Wei Dalan, if you don’t shut your mouth, I’ll squeeze your seeds right back out!”
“……” The two of them locked eyes.
Wei Hong’s frosty expression began to flush crimson. Wei Lan, playing dead on the table, turned his face away.
Moments later, the man got up stiffly, walking with an awkward gait. “Dahong, I… really gotta pee. Be right back.”
A few moments after that, raucous laughter echoed from the back of the boat.
Inside the cabin, Wei Hong pulled out her dagger and slammed it into the low table with a hard thud. Even the ends of her hair looked red with rage.
If time could rewind, she wished she could crumble that sentence just now into tiny pieces and shred it to bits.
How the hell did her brain slip like that and let such a stupid line come out of her mouth!?
If the man in front of her weren’t Wei Dalan, she would’ve straight-up killed him to shut him up! Damn it!
TL Corner: Hahahahah, even Dahong and Dalan are now confirmed. Looking forward to their babies
