Chapter 767: A Man Must Never Drop the Ball
She kissed Zhiqiu!
Her fingers lightly brushed her lips, where his breath still lingered—sweet and full of warmth.
She rolled over and over in bed, thinking about it until exhaustion overtook her. Only then did she fall asleep, smiling.
Elsewhere, Liu Zhiqiu leaned against the wall for a long time before finally walking toward the second courtyard.
If he hadn’t scared Little White Lotus off just now, the one losing face would’ve been him.
One kiss, and it got him so riled up.
He’d lived twenty-four years, and that was honestly a first.
Damn.
As soon as he stepped into the gate of his courtyard, he ran into Qian Wanjin, who stood under the moonlight with a lecherous grin on his face.
“Tsk tsk, I saw everything.”
Liu Zhiqiu gave him a sideways look. “What, never done it yourself and now you’re peeping to learn how?”
“Who the hell was peeping?! You think I need to peep? Your grandpa here has been through countless battles! I was just worried you’d screw it up and get rejected—that’s me being considerate, you ingrate!” Qian Wanjin immediately puffed up his chest and snapped back.
He hasn’t done it before?
Hahaha! What a joke!
“When I’m in the bridal chamber, are you gonna stand by the side giving instructions?” Liu Zhiqiu narrowed his eyes. If this guy dared say yes, he’d beat him into a meat-filled bun right now.
“…” Qian Wanjin gave a dry cough and pulled a well-worn book from inside his robes. “Forget the bridal chamber—here, take this. I snagged it from Xue Qinglian’s secret stash. You can study up. A man—must never drop the ball at the crucial moment!”
Liu Zhiqiu snatched the book and whacked it against Qian Wanjin’s head. “You idiot! Worry about your own wedding night first!”
“Okay okay okay! Gentlemen use words, not fists! We’re the only two bachelors left in the family—we gotta look out for each other, you feel me? You think I want to deal with you? Damn it, you ungrateful wolf!”
Qian Wanjin ran off clutching his head, howling like a banshee.
After a while, he realized there was no sound behind him. He looked back—empty.
He hadn’t even noticed when Liu Zhiqiu slipped away.
“Keep up the act, why don’t you! So serious—then give me back the book if you’re that proper!”
Freakin’ fake saint!
The night above was deep and silent. Aside from his own shouting, the entire courtyard was quiet as a grave.
Qian Wanjin immediately silenced himself, glanced around cautiously, then pulled another treasured book from his robes. Slipping back into his room, he lit the oil lamp—and the lamp stayed lit the entire night.
At an imperial manor.
“Someone, prepare the bath,” came the man’s cool, magnetic voice from within the bedchamber.
“Yes, master!” a maid replied promptly, then hurried next door to the bathing room, scattering fragrant flower petals across the steaming pool.
The water had been prepared since the afternoon, with hot water continuously refreshed, all in anticipation of their master’s bath.
Who could’ve guessed that they’d be waiting from afternoon until past midnight.
Once the maid left, Feng Qingbai lowered his gaze to the woman beside him, who had fallen asleep from exhaustion. His eyes were filled with tender affection.
Liu Yusheng had a dream.
She dreamed she was bathing in a warm pool, her body relaxed, immersed in comfort and ease.
But after a few laps, she turned her head—and suddenly saw a snow-white wolf standing at the edge of the pool!
Its green eyes glowed faintly, fixed on her like a predator.
Liu Yusheng woke up with a jolt.
She opened her eyes and locked gazes with a pair of deep, dark eyes.
“Ah!” she cried out, jolting upright in fright.
The man frowned and reached out to pull her into his arms. “Shengsheng, what’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?”
“You’re a wolf!”
“……”
You’re a wolf? Did the princess just pick a fight with their prince?
The shadow guards who had rushed to the door froze, caught in a dilemma.
“Dahong, you’re a woman, you go in! If I make a sound, the master will literally tear me apart!” Wei Lan quickly backed away.
Their master had always shown zero mercy toward him—this was a well-established fact.
Wei Hong narrowed her eyes, then swiftly ducked behind Wei Lan and delivered a solid kick to his rear. With a loud bang, he slammed right into the doorframe.
Then she disappeared from sight like nothing had happened.
“Are you courting death?!”
From inside, their prince’s voice rang out, low and furious.
Wei Lan nearly peed himself.
Why did he have to be paired up with Dahong, of all people?
Damn it, he just now realized. Dahong was absolutely the kind of teammate who’d pull the rug under you!
“Y-Your Highness… the time is almost up—we, we have to head out. The p-passenger boat is already waiting at the dock…”
“Get out!”
“I’ll get lost right now, Your Highness, but… please hurry!”
The only response from inside was a loud bang — the sound of a chair smashing against the door.
It didn’t take much imagination to know: he had just stirred up a storm.
