Chapter 631: He Can Bear Fruit Too

On the third day after Xue Qinglian left, Feng Qingbai and his group arrived as scheduled.

Upon hearing that they had returned, Liu Yusheng lifted her skirt and sprinted toward the outer courtyard.

Her entire face seemed to glow, radiating excitement.

Shi Xianrou and Liu Muqiu walked leisurely behind her, shaking their heads in amusement. “Just look at Lucky Nannan—now that’s what it means to be madly in love.”

“And what about you and Young Master?” Little White Lotus asked curiously.

“Me and my Xiao Jinzi are in love every day,” Shi Xianrou said proudly, patting the slender girl’s shoulder. “Little White Lotus, keep up the effort. You’ll be next—I have faith in you.”

Little White Lotus slumped down. “What’s the use of you believing in me? I’m losing faith in myself. I feel like Brother Zhiqiu is just a tree that never blooms.”

At that moment, a certain ‘iron tree’ who was about to step out of the second courtyard suddenly froze, his face twitching.

He never blooms?

Not only could he bloom—he could bear fruit too!

“Feng Qingbai!”

In the front courtyard, a young girl dashed into the arms of a handsome man like a swallow returning to its nest. The man caught her steadily.

“I’m back.” Feng Qingbai’s lips curled slightly as he lowered his head, his eyes filled with only one person—her.

What could the elders standing in the courtyard do?

They could only turn a blind eye.

Even Liu Dalin who was unable to watch any longer simply looked up at the sky.

His daughter was too in love—there was no bringing her back now.

Meanwhile, the two men who had arrived with Feng Qingbai had their own reactions.

The old drunkard, Elder Jiu, was busy scrutinizing every corner of the Liu family courtyard, while Wei Lan shot straight toward Wei Hong.

“Wei Dahong, I’m back too!”

“Mm.” Wei Hong crossed her arms and eyed Wei Lan sideways. “You’ve gained weight.”

“…” What the hell! Do you even know how to talk? Can you not ruin the mood?

Wei Lan immediately pulled out a small bronze mirror from his robe, tilting it left and right, trying to find undeniable proof that he was still as perfect as ever.

In the end, his reflection revealed an unmistakable double chin.

“Crack.” The mirror shattered.

Meanwhile, Shi Xianrou, Liu Muqiu, Liu Zhiqiu, and Qian Wanjin also arrived at the outer courtyard.

At a glance, they spotted the people standing in the yard.

“How long are you planning to hug her? Let go already! Aren’t you two getting a little too lovey-dovey?” Qian Wanjin stood with his hands on his hips, glaring at Feng Qingbai.

The man finally lifted his head and looked over. His long, narrow eyes swept across Qian Wanjin with a gaze as cold as a blade, sending a shiver straight to Wanjin’s heart.

Liu Muqiu was seeing this legendary King for the first time.

Titled the King of Nanling. The Regent.

Dressed in an elegant purple robe, he exuded nobility and grace. His features were finely sculpted, his figure tall and upright, his aura cool yet not overly sharp.

But what struck Liu Muqiu the most was the way he looked at Nannan.

It was like she was his most precious treasure.

Quietly tugging at Shi Xianrou’s sleeve, Liu Muqiu whispered, “Xianrou, should we bow?”

No one in the Liu family courtyard had moved, and she didn’t want to act rashly and embarrass her family.

“No need,” Shi Xianrou chuckled. “We’re all family here. As long as Nannan is around, His Highness and us are equals. No one is higher or lower than the other.”

If there was one place in the world where Feng Qingbai never put on airs, it was the Liu family courtyard, in front of the Liu family.

“This courtyard isn’t bad—it has a nice rustic charm. The village is good too, peaceful atmosphere. This old man is going to settle down here,” the old drunkard announced after inspecting the front yard. He squeezed his way forward and added, “Little girl, don’t forget what you promised me. From now on, you’re in charge of supplying my liquor!”

Liu Yusheng stepped out of Feng Qingbai’s embrace and turned to Elder Jiu. “No problem, but you can’t drink too much. One jar per day—no more.”

“How can one jar be enough? I live for my wine! Others need three meals a day, but I just need three rounds of drinking, and I’m set…”

“Grandpa, Grandma, please help keep an eye on Elder Jiu from now on. If he drinks too much, don’t give him any wine the next day.”

Grandpa Liu and Grandma Liu exchanged smiles. “Alright, we two elders will watch over him.”

They had met Elder Jiu once before—back in the imperial palace. It was thanks to him that their family’s fate was turned around, changing the Liu family in the capital from the main branch to a mere offshoot.

Hearing that he wouldn’t be able to drink freely here, and that he’d even be monitored, Elder Jiu immediately considered making a run for it. But in the end, he clenched his teeth and stayed—he simply couldn’t give up the special brew that the little girl made!

Even if it was only one jar a day, he’d take it!

With Feng Qingbai and Wei Lan back, and now Elder Jiu joining them, the Liu family had even more guests.

The two daughters-in-law of the Liu family busied themselves tidying up the guest courtyard, clearing out clean rooms for them.

Luckily, when the house was built, they had added two extra guest rooms. Otherwise, with more and more people arriving, there really wouldn’t have been enough space to accommodate everyone.

“It’s still early. I’ll go to the kitchen and start preparing the meal. You all just got home—go rest for a while.”

There was no need for excessive formalities in their family. Grandma Liu gave her instructions as she walked toward the kitchen.

Her face was full of joy.

The more people, the livelier. If only Zhixia and Yuzheng were here too, then the whole family would truly be complete. For an elderly person, that feeling was just like celebrating the New Year—full of happiness.

When you get old, nothing was more comforting than having all your children gathered around you.

As they watched the elders return to the main hall, Elder Jiu and Grandpa Liu wandered off together, already deep in a discussion about wine.

Wei Lan followed closely behind Wei Hong, heading to the guest courtyard.

Only then did Feng Qingbai take his little girl’s hand and lead her toward the inner courtyard.

Shi Xianrou and the others were sensible enough not to disturb them. Instead, they grouped together to entertain themselves.

The inner courtyard had been renovated, but it still retained its familiar feel. The layout remained largely the same, with only a few changes to the decor. The unusual flowers that once lined the stone path were gone, replaced by elegant potted plants.

By the stone table, Feng Qingbai pulled the girl onto his lap, wrapping his arms around her as he held her close. Closing his eyes, he let himself simply enjoy the moment.

July was at the height of summer, and even the afternoon sun remained fierce.

That was why the stone table and stools had been placed beneath the bamboo grove in the corner of the courtyard. The bamboo provided shade, and the fresh scent of greenery filled the air, making it easy to relax.

“Home is still the best,” the man sighed softly.

“Then stay home a few more days,” Liu Yusheng said with a gentle smile, her eyes curving into crescents.

She knew that he must have rushed back and wouldn’t be able to stay long before returning to his duties.

Even so, she was always happy whenever he returned because it meant he had carved out time just to be with her.

“Did you clear out all your work in one go again just to make time for this trip?”

“No, I left the state affairs for Feng Mohan to handle.” But still, he couldn’t stay long—just a few days at most.

“Qin Xiao is returning to the capital in August. Arriving at the same time as him will be envoys from Beicang. The next few months will be very busy for me.”

In other words, now was his only chance to come home.

“Qin Xiao is coming back? I thought he was always stationed at the border.” Liu Yusheng was surprised. She had never met Qin Xiao, but she knew he had been outside the pass for years, earning great respect in the military.

“Since Beicang is sending envoys, he has to return to handle the negotiations properly.”
