Chapter 614: Is Water Really That Fun?

Upon hearing the news about Kang Ziyu, Liu Muqiu didn’t show much on her face, but there was a slight fluctuation in her eyes.

Now, when she thought of Kang Ziyu, she no longer had much of a reaction.

During those two days when she lay in the Liu family’s courtyard like a corpse, Liu Muqiu was actually conscious.

Kang Ziyu had visited; she knew that.

She also knew that from the moment she arrived to the moment she left, Kang Ziyu had never once asked about her, nor even glanced at her.

At one point, she had considered Kang Ziyu her only friend. Even though she secretly relied on her, she had treated her sincerely, offering advice or covering for her whenever Kang Ziyu made sharp remarks.

Now, after spending time with Nannan and Xianrou, she understood what it really meant to have friends who treated her with true sincerity.

She now had her own life, and she was doing well. The past was no longer worth mentioning.

She didn’t hate Kang Ziyu, but they would no longer have any further interactions.

She turned her head and looked at the two women sitting on either side of her—one with her hands propped on her cheeks and the other sitting confidently with a broad posture—Liu Muqiu smiled. 

She linked her arm with Liu Yusheng’s and gently rested her head on Shi Xianrou’s shoulder. She could now treat the elder’s gossip as just a story. In the end, she could only sigh. 

It was both sad and pathetic how Kang Ziyu, after isolating herself for so long, met such an unfortunate end due to her own nature.

She, on the other hand, was truly doing well.

She and Kang Ziyu were now completely unrelated.

“Aren’t you upset?” The girl with her chin propped up turned to look at her and asked.

She shook her head. “Not at all. It’s someone else’s matter.”

There was no need for many close friends, just a few who genuinely care.

Yang Shuqing and Yang Shuyu sat nearby, listening to the old men gossip while secretly sizing up Liu Muqiu.

Was this person used to be friends with the county magistrate’s daughter?

So it turned out that from the very beginning, she was just climbing the social ladder.

Liu Yusheng and the others immediately frowned and ran towards the Qing River.

The village only had this one river.

Hearing that the girl had fallen into the river, Grandpa Liu immediately became worried. However, Qian Wanjin grabbed his arm and urged him to go back. “Grandpa, let’s go back and wait. Xiao Shi is there, there won’t be any problem. If we go there, it might actually get in the way.”

The person in the river was a woman, and they were men. If they accidentally saw something they shouldn’t, it could cause trouble that would last a lifetime, and they wouldn’t have anywhere to seek justice.

Shi Xianrou, running a bit ahead, heard this and looked back. “Xiao Jinzi, go back and I’ll reward you!”

“I’m waiting for it!”

At the section of the river near the village entrance, they could see someone struggling in the water from afar, drifting further and further from the shore.

“Xianrou!” Liu Yusheng called out.

Once they were back on the shore, Shi Xianrou tossed the person onto the ground and dusted off her hands as if there was nothing to it. “What’s the point of coming here if you’re fine there?”

The woman on the ground was drenched, her clothes clinging tightly to her body. She was lying face down, coughing uncontrollably, spitting out water.

Yang Shuyu stammered, trying to explain, “We were sitting under the tree, feeling bored. Since the river is close by, we thought we’d take a walk. But… but my sister slipped and accidentally…accidentally fell into the river.”

She wasn’t scared; she was shocked by Shi Xianrou’s actions.

What she had just witnessed was nothing short of extraordinary!

She hadn’t expected this young lady from the General’s family to be able to fly!

Such skills were only ever heard of in rumors. It seemed that all of Liu Yusheng’s friends were extraordinary people. Not only did they come from powerful families, but they also possessed incredible abilities!

After speaking, she quietly glanced at the girl beside her, whose expression was dark. Some people were simply born lucky, destined to have such good fortune.

“Stay here for now, I’ll go back and get a robe,” Liu Yusheng said, glancing at the person on the ground, but was stopped by Shi Xianrou.

“I’ll go instead. I’m quicker, and soon the workers at the wine shop will be off for lunch. With people coming and going, they’ll likely see her. Once that happens, her reputation will be ruined,” Shi Xianrou said. 

Shi Xianrou’s tone was laced with subtle mockery.

What were they thinking, playing such tricks? If they had even the slightest ill intentions, the woman lying there would either never get married or end up with a worthless match.

What was the point of playing in the water like this?

Surely they hadn’t heard about the fate of the eldest daughter of the Fu family before.

Shi Xianrou rushed back to the Liu family courtyard, leaving Liu Yusheng and Liu Muqiu to keep watch. The two of them stood at opposite corners, blocking the direction where the workers from the winery would exit. 

The shop was very close to the Qing River, and anyone walking by would be able to see everything happening here with just a glance.

If that happened, Yang Shuqing would only end up with her reputation completely ruined.

Seeing that the other two had blocked half the space, Yang Shuyu hurried to stand in another position. Thus, the three of them surrounded Yang Shuqing.

Yang Shuqing clearly realized her current situation. After she managed to catch her breath, she tightly hugged herself, crying in a soft, muffled manner.

By the time Shi Xianrou returned with a large robe, it had only been a short while, and the group arrived back at the Liu family courtyard just before the workers from the winery finished their shift.

Inside the house, the elder members of the Liu family were sitting in the main hall. Wang-shi and Chen Xiuying were anxiously peeking towards the door. 

When they saw the group return, they rushed over to pull Yang Shuqing inside, one hand pulling her in and the other inspecting her from head to toe, scolding her, “What were you thinking? Weren’t you just supposed to be out playing with Liu Yusheng and the others? How did you end up in the water? Are you alright? Did you get hurt anywhere? Did anyone see you?”

Wang-shi’s barrage of questions clearly implied that she was blaming Liu Yusheng and the others for not keeping an eye on Yang Shuqing, which led to her falling into the water and almost causing a major issue.

Unfazed by the reproach, Liu Yusheng ignored their blaming and watched as they pulled Yang Shuqing away before heading straight to the main hall.
