Chapter 610: Family Wealth

The old lady also smiled. Indeed, their Nannan was not that kind of person.

Previously, their family only had boys, and Nannan was the only girl. Now, with Muqiu accompanying her, the two girls laughed and chatted together every day, and the children were much happier than before.

It wasn’t like those big families where, in order to vie for the elders’ attention, people secretly fought and schemed against each other.

“The girls are thoughtful. Our family only had Nannan before, and without any sisters to keep her company, she was lonely. Now that Muqiu is here, the two of them are chatting and laughing every day, making the house a bit livelier, which is quite nice,” replied Grandma Liu. 

When talking about Liu Yusheng and Liu Muqiu, the light in her eyes was kind and gentle.

“It is good, but dear grandma, please don’t mind my straightforwardness. Miss Muqiu, after all, is not a blood relative of yours. Although she is considered part of the Liu family now, who knows if her heart truly belongs to the Liu family? After all, there is no blood relationship. 

What if she becomes disloyal? That could bring harm to the entire Liu family. You are kind-hearted, but when it comes to dealing with others, you should be cautious and not spoil them too much.”

She paused for a moment before continuing, “If you really like girls, it’s not difficult. Our Chen family has plenty of girls. If you want as many as you like, just let me know! 

As long as you ask, I’ll go back and discuss it. We can directly adopt one into your family, and they can stay with you, talking and laughing every day. Wouldn’t that be enjoyable? Family is always better than outsiders, right? 

Besides, if you’re fond of someone who isn’t related by blood, what are you hoping for? If you’re saying she owes you, there are many ways to repay that. A little money could settle it, there’s no need to keep her in your home for life. Isn’t that a huge loss? Nannan and Zhiqiu are not making money easily. The smile on the old lady’s face faded.

She hadn’t expected that this Wang-shi was so calculating, actually thinking of having someone be adopted into the Liu family.

“I don’t quite understand what you’re saying, in-law,” she said. “Repaying kindness is our own business, and how to repay it is up to the Liu family. As long as we’re willing, what’s wrong with it? The disaster just passed, and every family has things to take care of. You can’t just run away and avoid work; people will talk if they see you lounging around. You should go back early.”

Hearing the old man getting angry, Wang-shi’s face hardened. She wanted to say something to make amends but saw that he had already taken his wife and was heading towards the room. 

As they walked, he continued to scold her, “You got up early and worked hard. Once you’re done, just rest. Why are you still here chatting? Aren’t you tired? Go rest, or you’ll have to get up and cook lunch later. You’re getting old, and your body isn’t what it used to be. Rest when you can. Have you forgotten something Nannan said about keeping in good health?”

“Alright, alright, why are you so fond of nagging, old man? I’ll go and rest. If you have nothing to do, go find those old chaps at the village entrance and chat with them. Just remember to come back for lunch.”

The two elderly people exchanged words and went into their room, leaving Wang-shi, Chen Xiuying, and the Yang sisters sitting in the main room, wide-eyed and full of frustration with nowhere to vent.

The elderly Liu couple didn’t even bother to greet them.

After leaving the main hall and returning to the guest room, Wang-shi sat on the edge of the bed, her face dark and gloomy. Unable to hold it in, she angrily muttered, “Do you think those two old fools have grown senile? What did I say wrong? They’re willing to treat outsiders better than their own family. “Lower your voice, we’re still in the Liu family’s courtyard. If someone hears this, they’ll throw us out for sure!” Chen Xiuying nervously watched the door, afraid someone might suddenly appear and overhear Wang-shi’s angry words.

By then, they would truly become enemies with the Liu family.

The two elders of the Liu family held a position akin to that of an emperor emeritus. For Wang-shi to curse them like this, the Liu family members would have every right to cut them down with knives!

“Let them throw us out, do I care if they hear it? I’m just speaking the truth, honest words are often the hardest to hear!” Wang-shi continued to curse, but her voice was lower. “Chen Xiulan is also an ungrateful, ingrained wolf! She grew up eating food from the Chen family, and now that she’s successful, she’s starting to look down on her own family. She’s a thankless wretch! Your brother is always defending her!
