Chapter 608: Is Zhiqiu’s Figure Good or Not?
Back in her room, Chen Xiulan leaned against her husband’s shoulder and had a good cry. Wiping away her tears, she said, “They came over without my eldest brother knowing, for sure. Given his personality, he would never have sent Wang-shi ahead to borrow money. If he really needed to borrow, he would have come himself. He would never let her take the lead like this. How did I end up with such shameless relatives? The moment they see our family doing well, they want to take a bite out of us. Do they really think our money falls from the sky?”
Liu Dalin comforted her, “Since you already know what kind of people they are, is it really worth shedding tears for them? Even if you cried your eyes out, they wouldn’t feel sorry for you. But you’re breaking my heart here.”
Chen Xiulan let out a laugh and playfully punched her husband. The sadness in her heart lightened.
He was right. Why should she waste tears on such relatives? They weren’t worth it.
The people who truly cared about her were right by her side—why let outsiders affect her?
She turned off the lamp and went to sleep.
A new day began.
People in rural households woke up early.
By dawn, the Liu family courtyard was already bustling with activity. Lively chatter and movement filled the air.
Grandma Liu, as was her habit, got up early to prepare a delicious breakfast for the children.
When the children woke up and washed up, they would eat while playfully chatting with her in the kitchen.
Watching the children eat happily and listening to their playful banter put her in a good mood for the whole day.
“Nannan, Nannan, wake up, breakfast is ready!”
The sound pierced Liu Yusheng’s ears. She turned over in bed, weakly groaning, “Muqiu, little white lotus… There’s no need to wake up so early every day. Grandma makes enough breakfast, and there’ll be more later…”
“If we wait until later, everyone will be busy working, and it won’t be as lively. Hurry up and get up! If you’re tired, you can eat and then sleep again.” Liu Muqiu was persistent, pulling Liu Yusheng out of bed with Shi Xianrou’s help, guiding the groggy girl outside.
She liked the early mornings.
She liked seeing her grandmother’s smiling face when they ate heartily.
She liked the atmosphere when the whole family sat in the kitchen or squatted at the door, chatting joyfully.
It was something she had never had before.
Now that she was lucky enough to have it, she didn’t want to miss a single day.
Plus, waking up early meant she could see Zhiqiu’s groggy look when he got up.
She could watch him fighting with Qian Wanjin over the water while washing up.
She could see him being mischievous, trying to please and tease the old lady while having breakfast.
Before he went to work, she could spend more time with him.
Every day in the Liu courtyard was beautiful.
Hearing a mysterious burst of giggling beside her, Liu Yusheng opened her sleepy eyes and looked at Liu Muqiu.
Sure enough, she saw her thoughts drifting elsewhere, wearing an expression that looked like a lovesick fool, covering her mouth and giggling foolishly.
“Xianrou, do you know what word best describes the way Little White Lotus is acting right now?”
“Come on, tell me loudly!”
“It’s called a lovesick fool.”
The term ‘lovesick fool’ was specifically whispered by Liu Yusheng to Liu Muqiu, who was lost in a dreamlike state.
Even if she hadn’t heard it before, Liu Muqiu could roughly guess what it meant just by the literal translation.
She immediately stomped her feet, her face flushed with embarrassment, and chased after the two of them. “Xianrou, Nannan, you’re making fun of me again!”
“Eiya, Little White Lotus is a lovesick fool. Who can cure her?”
“Only Zhiqiu can!”
“Exactly, hahahaha!”
Liu Yusheng and Shi Xianrou ran while performing a comedic duet, teasing Liu Muqiu.
From the inner courtyard to the short little path leading to the front yard, the air was filled with the three girls’ sweet, bell-like laughter.
In the front yard, hearing the laughter from afar, Grandma Liu’s face broke into a smile. Since Liu Muqiu came into their home, they always heard their laughter in the mornings.
It was lighthearted, joyful, and sweet—just hearing it lifted anyone’s spirits.
If Muqiu had been treated well back at the Li family, she would have grown into a fine child.
Well, now that she’s with their family, she’s growing very well, and getting better and better.
“Grandma, we’re here to keep you company!” Even before they arrived, their voices were heard.
“There’s warm water in the pot, hurry up and wash up. After washing, come eat.”
“Yes!” The little girls responded cheerfully, starting their bright morning.
After washing up, they uncovered the pot on the stove, revealing warm steamed buns and flower rolls inside.
On the other side, a thick and fragrant porridge was simmering.
The dining table also had a few plates of homemade pickled vegetables.
Simple and homely, but everyone in the family loved it.
While the girls were busy taking the buns, Grandma Liu had already served each of them a bowl of porridge, placing it on the table so they could sit down and eat.
“Eat something light for breakfast, just enough to fill your stomach. By noon, I’ll make something delicious for you.”
“Thank you, Grandma.” Liu Yusheng bit into a steamed bun and sipped her porridge, acting sweet in front of her grandmother. “The food you make is the best. Not even the chefs at the King’s Manor or the county yamen can compare. It’s just right for my taste.”
Grandma Liu smiled playfully, “You’re just like your second brother, always sweet-talking with your smooth tongue.”
“I’m not smooth-talking at all! If you don’t believe me, ask my brother, or ask Qian Wanjin and Xue Qinglian if they think your food is the best. When we’re out running around, the thing we miss the most is your cooking. We always rush back home because we can’t wait to eat your food!”
“So, you just miss Grandma’s cooking, huh?”
“Of course not! The thing I miss the most is our grandma herself. When I think of Grandma, I think of the delicious food she makes.” The little girl shook her head, teasing the granny and making her smile widely.
Shi Xianrou sighed from the side, “Lucky Nannan’s eloquence is truly something. To have a smooth tongue, all you need is a thick face.”
“Ssss!” Liu Muqiu nearly choked, wanting to laugh but holding it in. She secretly gave Shi Xianrou a thumbs up, thinking that was spot on. Then, she turned to Grandma Liu and said, “Grandma, I wake up early every day. How about I come over and learn how to cook from you? I can help out, and then I’ll be able to make delicious food myself.”
That way, Grandma could rest more.
“No need. Our girls are spoiled, and as long as I can still move, I’ll keep cooking for you. When I’m too old to move, even if you want to eat, I won’t be able to.”
“I’ll cook for you and Grandpa when you’re older!” She’d take care of them when they were old.
“Good, okay, okay! When I get old, you’ll take care of me. I’ll live like the dowager empress,” Grandma Liu said, smiling as she rubbed each of the girls’ heads. “Eat slowly, there’s more in the pot if you need more.”
While they were chatting and laughing, the rest of the family gradually woke up.
More and more people gathered in the kitchen, creating a lively atmosphere.
Liu Zhiqiu, Qian Wanjin, and Xue Qinglian were the last ones to come out.
They stretched lazily as they walked out, looking half-asleep, like they were sleepwalking.
Liu Muqiu immediately sat up straight, nibbling on her steamed bun while looking outside, forgetting even the porridge in front of her.
Shi Xianrou winked at Liu Yusheng, then leaned over to Little White Lotus’s ear, “Is Zhiqiu’s figure good?”
“Yeah!”
“Hahahaha!”
Even the elders in the house covered their mouths and chuckled.
Liu Muqiu was steaming with embarrassment; she had been teased again.
