”I’ve never studied medical theory. Why should I compete with you?! You are clearly embarrassing me!” Liu Ningfang immediately retorted angrily.
”Indeed.” Liu Yusheng raised her delicate eyebrows and spread her hands. “So you also know that this is embarrassing because you haven’t learned it. Then you’re competing with me for something I haven’t learned, aren’t you also embarrassing me? Now, are you doing it on purpose?”

Snickers ensued all around.

Consort Liu looked at the young man in surprise, only to see the boy coldly staring at the woman who was still trembling in the center of the venue, his eyes sharp and compelling. “Is the distinguished guest we invited for you to use as a stepping stone? Who gave you such courage?”
”Your Majesty, this concubine doesn’t…” Liu Ningfang received a tongue lashing from the new Emperor that her face turned pale. Only then did she realize that she had made a big disaster.
She angered the Emperor!
”Your Majesty, Fang’er, she—” Consort Liu frowned and wanted to speak for Liu Ningfang, but Feng Mohan interrupted her.
He didn’t give her any respect at all.
”Concubine Dowager is the head of the harem, and is considered a senior in the harem. She always acts with propriety. I thought the women from your Liu family were as sensible as Concubine Dowager, but it never occurred to me that you would disappoint me terribly! ”Get lost!” Before she could finish thinking, the boy’s cold voice sounded in her ears again, sending Liu Ningfang away.

Liu Ningfang exited the stage tearfully. Liu Ningfei sat on the talents’ table with her head lowered, but the corners of her lips curled up from an angle that others could not see.
The talent show ended in a farce.
Liu Yusheng rebuked someone, but her mood was not affected at all. She sat in her seat to watch the play, and sometimes chaos would arise under the table. She scratched Feng Qingbai’s palm, making him restless.
Feng Qingbai held one cup in one hand, longing for the woman to continue. A faint smudge of laughter filled the corners of the eyes and mouth.
The session came to an end, and then it was time for Feng Mohan to assess everyone and name them for a particular position.
The eunuchs and maids in the palace took the opportunity to shuttle between tables and seats, pouring wine, adding dishes and snacks.
While drinking her wine, Consort Liu furtively examined the servants who were shuttling in the field, and noticed that a court eunuch with a gold thread pouch on his waist was approaching Liu Yusheng’s seat. Her eyes flashed with ruthlessness.
During the entire ceremonial banquet, the seated ladies and noblewomen were waiting nervously for the final result.
Whoever the Emperor named would jump over and move out from the small building in the other courtyard where the talented women lived, and have a separate bedroom.
Feng Mohan closed his eyelids slightly, seemingly contemplating. Consort Liu whispered something in his ear from time to time, as if giving advice.
The atmosphere was silent and tense for a while.
Feng Qingbai held the young girl’s hand, which was pinching his fingers under the table and said, “Shengsheng, follow me later.”
Liu Yusheng retracted her gaze that was admiring the exquisitely dainty and ravishingly beautiful ladies and asked doubtfully, “I’ve been following you since earlier. Are we leaving? The ceremony isn’t over yet.”
She hasn’t seen the most exciting part just yet. How could they leave?
”It’s going to get messy.” The man’s thin lips parted lightly. His voice was soft, and it only reached her ears.
Liu Yusheng nodded. “What about Xiao Feng’er?”
He only said a couple of words, but she immediately understood what he meant.
However, if she followed him, she had him to protect her. What about Xiao Feng’er? He was still sitting over there choosing a consort. Did he know that chaos was fast approaching?
”Don’t worry, there are people around him watching.”
Only then did Liu Yusheng heave a sigh of relief. Under the circumstances, even if she had doubts deep down, it wasn’t the right time to ask them out loud. After they were out, she’d follow Feng Qingbai and ask him to clarify things.
What was he up to?
With something hidden in her heart, she lost interest in watching the play. She couldn’t help looking in Feng Mohan’s direction frequently.
If there was a chance, she would go with Xiao Feng’er. She couldn’t stand leaving him here alone.
Because of this, she didn’t notice that someone was approaching her, but the hand of the man beside her holding the wine glass tightened imperceptibly.
Without warning, the wine glass in his hand shot towards the eunuch who was still one step away.
The eunuch tilted his head to avoid it, and when he realized that he had been exposed, he immediately flew forward and rushed towards Liu Yusheng.
The cold glint of the dagger in his hand was terrifying.
”AHH——!” Screams immediately erupted.
The originally quiet and tense banquet hall instantly turned chaotic.
The noble ladies and the talents screamed and stepped back, hiding behind others as they hid.
Feng Qingbai guarded the girl behind him, slapped the dagger and grabbed the eunuch’s neck with one hand. After a soft click, he let go, and the eunuch fell softly to the ground, breathless.
Everything happened between a lightning and a flint, yet a person died in the blink of an eye.
As for the man who killed the eunuch, there was not even a trace of fluctuation on his face. He only looked ruthless.
Consort Liu sat in her seat, watching her carefully arranged manpower being solved by Feng Qingbai without any effort. Her eyes secretly reddened, her breathing grew unsteady, and her hatred kept pouring out of her eyes.
Just then, a sudden cool sensation came from the nape of her neck, causing her eyes to widen.
