FID – Chapter 522

Chapter 522: Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover.

The Concubine Registry Ceremony was scheduled for noon.

Although it was a grand palace ceremony, powerful officials and courtiers could bring their female relatives to watch the ceremony.

This was the default rule of the palace.

The reason behind? When the Emperor was choosing imperial concubines, he might take a fancy to a noble lady that the ministers brought, and she could soar to the skies.

Since the family was informed, it was quite logical for Feng Qingbai to pick Liu Yusheng up.

Liu Yusheng looked at the person who had just left her room, walked in a circle and swaggeringly entered through the Xinliu Manor gates, and was rendered speechless.

”It’s only around seven now.” The ceremony was at noon, and there were still a couple of hours left.

”It’s okay. I’ll tour you around the palace. You don’t necessarily have to be there at the exact time,” Feng Qingbai said.

There was no morning court session today, so he has time.

”Go for a walk? Won’t we meet Consort Liu again?” The last time she entered the palace, she bumped into Consort Liu.

Hearing her question, Feng Qingbai chuckled. “Don’t worry, she has no time to come out and wait for us.” She’s not in that mood.

Her psychological torture during this period was enough to render her half insane. Without the protection of the Imperial Guards, she dared not even step out of the gates of Qingning Palace.

Even inside her own bedroom, she called a bunch of servants to accompany her, feeling totally unsafe.

”All right, but not around the palace.” Lest they’d run into all sorts of people that could affect the mood. Liu Yusheng said, “I go and see Xiao Feng’er. I haven’t seen him for a long time.”

”Nannan, when you go there, take a box of the chicken feet I marinated last night. Xiao Feng’er has not eaten my cooking. The child has been busy in the palace and hardly ever comes out there.” Grandma Liu got up quickly to get the chicken feet.

Liu Yusheng glanced at someone furtively. She didn’t dare to say that Xiao Feng’er was too busy to come, but someone forbade him to come.

She didn’t know whether there was really the need to be so harsh, or it was purely for not wanting to see an eyesore…

Liu Yusheng brought her grandmother’s packed food, boarded the carriage and set off for the palace. On the way, she kept glancing at the man.

”Why do you keep sneaking glances? You can just look at me honestly.”

Liu Yusheng scratched his hand and voiced out the doubts in her heart, “Xiao Feng’er shouldn’t be too busy and without any spare time. Why don’t you let him come visit?”

Feng Qingbai said indifferently, “He is the Emperor. It’s good to have him experience some things, but if there’s more contact, he’ll be greedy.”

”You mean greedy for family affection?”

He caressed the little girl’s head and said, “It is said that the Emperor is ruthless, indisputably ruthless, and has to be ruthless. Shengsheng, he must have control over himself, sitting in that position. The path he has to take isn’t always the right and proper one we have in mind.”

An overly idealized ruler didn’t exist in reality.

If he must obtain something, then something else must be forsaken.

He couldn’t have it both ways.

Hearing this, Liu Yusheng felt a little sad, “Is there no exception?”

”How can a sheep survive among wolves? He needs to become the wolf king.”

Liu Yusheng nestled into the man’s arms and did not speak.

That world was something she had never come into contact with, and it was very different from the environment in which she grew up, and she had no right to dictate.

She only hoped that Xiao Feng’er would grow from a little tree to a big one in the future. Only then could he have what he really wanted.

In the Qiande Palace, when the young boy saw Liu Yusheng coming in with Feng Qingbai, his whole face lit up.

  ”Aunt Liu!”

”Have you had your breakfast yet? Grandma asked me to bring you some marinated chicken feet. She cooked them herself, come and try them.” Liu Yusheng smiled at the young  man, put down the food container on the low table inside the main palac, opened the lid, and beckoned the young man to come over.

”Really? The food that Great Grandma cooks is super delicious! Sniffing the aroma alone can make you full, and also make you feel hungry right away!” The little boy ran to Liu Yusheng’s side without delay, grabbed the food container and ate.

There was absolutely no majesty and image of the Emperor. His eyes were sparkling bright, and he ate with gusto.

Liu Yusheng felt a touch of distress deep inside.

Xiao Feng’er knew his situation and knew what path he would take in the future.

It was entirely rare that he was able to retain his true nature until now.

Only in front of people close to him would he be so relaxed and unpretentious.

”Eat slowly. If you like it, I’ll let your uncle bring you some the next time he comes.”

”I like it, I will never get tired of it even if you bring it to me every day!” Feng Mohan nodded frequently and looked at Liu Yusheng. However, he didn’t spare his uncle a glance.

He didn’t have to look to know that his Imperial Uncle was definitely exuding cold air right now.

Had he been cowardly, he wouldn’t have been able to stay with Aunt Liu for a second longer.

Feng Qingbai looked at the young boy coldly for a moment, then stepped forward and pulled Liu Yusheng away. “After eating, quickly change clothes. Don’t dawdle.”

Feng Mohan immediately yelled, “Uncle, where are you taking Aunt Liu?”

He was too much. He just sat face-to-face with Aunt Liu!

”Feng Qingbai…” Liu Yusheng also tugged at the man’s sleeve, her eyes as pitiful as the little boy squatting beside her.

Feng Qingbai felt helpless. “Help me grind the ink.”

”Do you want to work?” Liu Yusheng asked in surprise, following the man to the desk nearby.

Before they came, he seemed to have said that he would take her around, but when they arrived, he was going to work again?

When the man laid out the white paper and drew a sketch on it, she realized that it wasn’t an official business, but a painting.

Liu Yusheng glanced at the relieved young man over there who stuck out his tongue.

Seeing that his Uncle didn’t take her away in the end, Feng Mohan smiled. He held the food container and quietly moved to Liu Yusheng’s side when the man, who was painting, was not paying attention.

In the end, the two stood in a corner of the desk and watched Feng Qingbai paint.

  Figure painting.

Although the painting hasn’t been completed yet, Feng Mohan could tell who he was going to paint. There always had been one protagonist of his figure paintings.

”The charm is not quite right. Aunt Liu’s charm is much softer and more flexible.”

”The eyes aren’t right either. When Aunt Liu’s fluid eye motion can be fascinating.”

”The smile isn’t right too. How could Aunt Liu smile like this? You must be confused for painting an alluring woman…”

The veins on Feng Qingbai’s forehead throbbed anew. “Feng Mohan, can’t the chicken feet stop your mouth?”

”I’m telling the truth. Isn’t that smile wrong? Aunt Liu’s smiles are always shallow, indifferent, and elegant…”

Feng Qingbai stood up and sneered, “It’s because only I have seen your Aunt Liu’s charming smile!”

  Feng Mohan, “…”

  Liu Yusheng, “…”

Damn it, this ink grinding is going to end right now!

Out of the corner of Liu Yusheng’s eyes, she found that the little boy kept smiling at the vixen on the painting. She turned around to block it, blushing, and pointed her hand behind him, “Xiao Feng’er, go over there.”

”…” Feng Mohan, who was driven away, hugged his food container and disappeared.

Cough, don’t judge a book by its cover.

It turns out that Aunt Liu can still smile like that…

When the little boy walked away a little, Liu Yusheng turned her attention to the man behind her and gritted her teeth. “Feng, Qing, Bai!”

”Shengsheng, I’m just telling the truth.” The man took a step back, his expression faint and innocent.

Liu Yusheng smirked and nodded. “It’s the truth.”

She dipped her fingers into the ink and scratched the man’s body.
