Chapter 481: Liu Zhiqiu, Run!
”No, I didn’t hear anything from the villagers, but my family lives on the edge of the village entrance, and I didn’t hear any rattles from a passing ox cart all night.” The man took the steamed bun and bit off a small half. “Why are you asking?”
”It’s nothing, I was just asking. Let’s go. Let’s tidy up the medicine field today, and I’ll help you weed your field later.”
The road to Xinghua Ridge was very quiet.
It was too early to see many villagers along the road.
The grass under the loquat forest in Xinghua Ridge was prosperous and dense, and it was a wonder if the land was particularly fertile, because the grass grew as tall as some people.
For this reason, it was extremely difficult to notice that a person was lying in the clump at first glance.
Confused, and with a body burning and cold, Li Junyue didn’t know whether she was dead or dreaming.
A tableau kept flashing before my eyes.
She was reliving the past.
That year was also the second day of the new year. She was bullied by her sisters in the residence and sat in the alley crying with her hair disheveled.
A teenager approached and handed her a little candy man. “Here, stop crying, only girls who love to smile are blessed.”
She raised her tear-stained little face, trying to see him clearly, but with the light behind his back, his face remained in the shadows.
In the distance, someone shouted, “Zhiqiu! Hurry up!”
”What is it? I’m coming!” he responded loudly. He then turned around and sprinted away.
She was left all alone with the little candy man in the shape of a lucky baby in her hand.
Since then, she has started to smile at everyone.
Another year passed, and she was one year older. But her parents forgot her birthday again, so on the same day she went to the streets alone.
The sky was gray, yet people and pedestrians filled the streets, including hawkers shouting. It was a lively scene.
She was walking in the middle, her heart as still as water, and nothing could catch her attention.
Her heart was as gloomy as the sky.
On the opposite side, someone walked towards her and brushed shoulders with her.
”Zhiqiu! Slow down and wait for me!”
She turned back instantly and saw his smiling face.
She had never seen such a clean and pure smile.
Like the sunlight suddenly beaming into the dark, she wanted to chase it desperately.
……
Picture after picture, all of him.
She knew that it was just a dream, but a voice outside the dream pierced her ears.
”Are you sure it’s here?”
”Very sure, Liu Zhiqiu comes here to work every day.”
”When he comes up, kill him directly. You should be neat and tidy, and don’t cause any stir.”
A screeching voice resounded above the grass.
Li Junyue suddenly felt chilled all over. She bit the tip of her tongue fiercely to wake herself up from her half-consciousness.
She listened intently again.
”Someone’s coming up from there. Who is Liu Zhiqiu?”
”It’s too far away to tell the difference. There are fields at the foot of the mountain. They may be villagers. Let’s wait for them to get closer.”
She wasn’t dreaming.
Li Junyue’s teeth began to chatter. Someone was lying in ambush here, trying to kill Liu Zhiqiu.
The grass where she fell was under the loquat forest, and there was a dense circle of wolfberry on the outside of the forest above, so she was cleverly hidden.
She forced herself to get up, and at this moment she couldn’t be bothered to cover herself up. As far as she could see, two figures were approaching at the foot of the mountain, about to reach the intersection of the mountain.
Even if she couldn’t see their faces, she could recognize his figure at a glance.
Li Junyue gritted her teeth, stumbled and rushed out. She even sensed the cold killing intent behind her.
”Daniu-ge, I accidentally fell and sprained my foot on the way to collect medicine. Can you help me call Aunt Hong and ask her to come and help me?!”
The killing intent behind her seemingly stilled for a moment.
She forced herself to remain calm, but the clothes behind her were soaked in cold sweat.
At the foot of the mountain, Liu Zhiqiu spotted the person who climbed out of the dense grass at a glance, cutting a sorry figure all over.
And her words made him immediately squint.
The companion next to him snickered, patted him on the shoulder, and deliberately teased loudly, “Hey, Zhiqiu, when did you change your name to Daniu-ge?”
Most of the villagers knew the woman on the mountain. Wasn’t she Miss Li who frequented the Liu family compound?
He just didn’t know what she was doing up there, much less looking entirely wretched.
On the mountainside, Li Junyue felt weak from head to toe, and there was only one thought left in her mind: It’s over.
The people hiding in the loquat forest moved.
All a sudden, a few men in black leaped out of the forest. This scene made the villagers at the foot of the mountain stunned. Liu Zhiqiu pushed his companion hard and ordered, “Go and call Aunt Hong, quick! There is an ambush!”
The villager sped away without watching a moment longer. Seeing the black-clad figures, he knew what was happening.
The Liu family compound wasn’t too far away, so they had a chance of winning if he successfully called Aunt Hong. If he stayed here a moment longer, they would end up dead.
Right after, Liu Zhiqiu also started to run, but towards the men in black.
Li Junyue’s guts were splitting. “Liu Zhiqiu, run! Don’t come here, go!”
Those black-clad men were rushing down. All four of them were skilled, and Liu Zhiqiu’s move was akin to death!
”I told you to go, leave! Are you stupid?! Get out of here!” she cried out hoarsely. She didn’t know where she got her strength and courage. She picked up the stones by her feet and threw them at the man in black in front of her. Some villagers who came also followed suit, trying to stop them.
She was in the middle, closest to the men in black. If she could stall them, Liu Zhiqiu still has a chance to escape!
”Li Junyue, step back!” When Liu Zhiqiu saw her move, he bellowed, his eyes dramatically turning crimson.
The woman didn’t listen to him and lunged toward the black-clad man. Then he watched as a sharp dagger buried into her shoulder and watched her get kicked away.
That knife felt like it stabbed his heart, it hurt.
Both sides moved speedily fast. They met in just a blink of an eye, and then got entangled in a fight.
On the mountain road, Li Junyue lay prostrate on the ground, desperately gasping for breath, in pain and powerlessness. Her body was broken like the end of a strong crossbow.
When she looked up, she saw the man who captured her heart and soul, fighting with the four men in black, exuding agility and a calm aura.
It turned out that he was adept at martial arts.
The men in black also seemed to have been caught off guard, so their stances were disrupted for a moment, causing the two sides to be neck and neck temporarily.
Feeling relieved, she stretched her lips and smiled.
Just hold on a little longer, Aunt Hong will come and he will be fine.
Her fingers clawed the ground, and she grabbed a piece of gravel in her hand. She tried hurling it, but the stone only fell not far in front of her, laughing at her powerlessness.
Her gasping was already at her throat, wheezing brokenly like a bellows. She again stood up laboriously and staggered toward the fray.
”Li Junyue, go away!”
She laughed, shaking her head. “I won’t…”
Almost silently.
She would never leave.
He was in such danger. How could she leave?
He was already at a disadvantage. When the black-clad men were forced to retreat, they immediately attacked him again. She saw as someone behind him raised a dagger that glinted coldly.
She plunged forward and blocked his back, and the moment the dagger pierced her heart, the stone in her hand slammed down on her opponent’s head.
”Ah—!” Before falling down, she heard a heart-rending roar.
By the time Wei Hong arrived, there were still three of the four men in black. Liu Zhiqiu resembled a wild beast, and his shots were all fatal moves.
The game was as good as lost. The black-clad men retreated, and Wei Hong chased after them.
Liu Zhiqiu didn’t go after her. He turned around, picked up the woman who had fallen on the ground, and held her tightly in his arms.
”Li Junyue, Li Junyue!” He called her, the rims of his eyes burning scarlet.
She was in his arms, so soft as if she were boneless with blood gushing out of her mouth. The dagger that was still stuck in her heart made him shiver.
