Chapter 480: Beware of Regrets
”Liu-gege, I’m a little thirsty. Can you give me a glass of water?” The woman looked at him sideways and asked gently.
Liu Zhiqiu got up, went to the kitchen and brought a tea pot over.
It was warm.
Holding it in her hand, she could feel the warm temperature in her palm, and the coldness of her fingers slowly faded away.
But her hands were still shaking.
”Li Junyue, you shouldn’t have come,” Liu Zhiqiu finally spoke up.
”I couldn’t help it.” Looking at the light brown tea in the teacup, she said, “Once I’m married, I won’t be able to come here again. Liu-gege, maybe we won’t see each other for the rest of our lives.”
She raised her head slowly and stared at him. “I don’t want to be a puppet forever. I tried my best to escape, so I approached you with an ulterior motive. You knew it from the very start, right?”
Without waiting for his response, she knew the answer. “So from the beginning, you couldn’t have liked me.”
The man remained silent.
His silence represented his acquiescence.
He knew, he knew everything, but he never mentioned it.
He let her keep attempting to get close to him like a dancing clown, ignoring her, and unwavering.
Liu-gege…actually has a ruthless heart.
”Would you believe me if I said that I just wanted to take advantage of your family’s power and jump out of that cage, not really coveting your family background?” Again, without waiting for his answer, she smiled to herself. “You don’t believe it, do you? I don’t believe it myself.”
She drank the cold tea in her hand and put down the teacup. She smiled at him. “Liu-gege, please lend me some clothes. It’s getting dark, and it’s so cold. I’m going back.”
After a fixed look at her, Liu Zhiqiu went out and asked Wei Hong for a garment. When the woman wrapped herself with it, he said, “I’ll send you.”
”No, I know where to find an ox cart. If you send me, people will see us and there’s no telling what they’ll say.” After a pause, Li Junyue looked at the teapot placed on the table, “Li Junyue, practice for me, and send me on my way with tea instead of wine.”
Liu Zhiqiu lowered his eyes halfway. “The tea is cold, so don’t drink it.”
Then he took the teapot and poured the contents into his mouth. “A pleasure knowing you. You should also practice too. Li Junyue, take care.”
Li Junyue curled her lips. Her eyes glowed with moisture, and then slowly turned red. “Thank you, Li Junyue.”
The next moment, Liu Zhiqiu swayed, and staggered forward two steps unsteadily.
He collapsed on Li Junyue’s side, on the long couch against the wall.
”Li Junyue, you drugged me?”
Li Junyue turned around and turned him over until he was lying in supine position, “Liu-gege, I’m sorry.”
”What do you want to do?” Liu Zhiqiu asked angrily.
The woman, however, did not answer him, but only gazed deeply at him. After a moment, she leaned forward and leaned on his chest, just listening to his heartbeat.
”Liu-gege, if you and I do something that can’t be undone today, would you hate me?”
”Yes, I’ll hate you for a lifetime!”
He answered decisively.
Even without looking at him, his voice spoke of the extent of his anger.
Li Junyue smiled sadly, reached out and hugged him tightly. “I won’t do anything, just hug you.”
Finally, she propped herself up and stood up, gave him one last look, and walked out.
”I’m terribly bad, Liu-gege. But, I’m just afraid you’ll hate me.”
In the future, remember this lesson. Do not easily give people, like me, the opportunity. Too many people covet you.
The woman’s back sank into the night.
Followed by the rattling of the door.
In the consultation room, the man who should have been completely weak slowly sat up, bent his knees and leaned against the wall, looking in the direction of the courtyard gate. His eyes were dark and only he knew what he was thinking.
In the end, he just snorted a laugh.
It was a wonder whether I’m laughing at myself, or at the person who left.
After eating a Hundred Poison Pill, how could ordinary poison poison him?
But why did he go along with her and feign collapse?
”If you want to pursue her, go after her. If you really wait until she marries, it will be too late.”
”Aunt Hong, have you been standing by and watching the play?”
”It’s not like she ate you.”
Wei Hong did not even show a shadow. She really regarded him as a cabbage. Could Li Junyue hurt him?
She was the only one in the whole family who had a grasp of everything.
Who said Liu Zhiqiu was stupid?
”You really don’t want to pursue her?”
Liu Zhiqiu got up and went back to his yard. “Stop worrying about me. You should worry about yourself. Beware of Wei Lan leaving and not returning.”
Something whizzed through the air behind him, and Liu Zhiqiu tilted his head slightly, avoiding it flawlessly.
After walking far, he still heard a whisper behind, “Beware of regrets.”
Liu Zhiqiu laughed. There was nothing to regret.
He and Li Junyue were incompatible.
After leaving the Liu family compound, Li Junyue did not go towards the village entrance, but turned in another direction, stepping into the darkening night with staggering steps.
The injuries on her body have not been healed, and taking the trip to the village was already her limit.
Every time she took another step, dizziness struck her. Her breath fell shorter and shorter, and her heart palpitated from her chest, one thump after another.
She could feel her heart beating abnormally.
Urgent, chaotic, like the last struggle before death.
Gritting her teeth, she walked forward in the direction in her memory.
After stepping out of the lamp lights from the houses in Xinghua Village, darkness spread all around. All that was left ringing in her ears was the whistling wind, the rustling leaves, and her pounding heart beat.
Something seemed to be ringing in her head.
She wanted to go to Xinghua Ridge.
The only fondest memory between her and Liu Zhiqiu was in Xinghua Ridge.
At that time, he was hoeing the ground in front, while she was loosening the soil in the back.
The picture of that time surfaced in front of her eyes, and the corners of her mouth stretched with a dreamy smile.
Back then, they were like a young newlywed couple.
He was the husband, and she, the wife, always wanted to cling to him.
With dimness and shadows in front of her eyes, she seemed to see the loquat forest, close at hand.
Her clothes were soaked with cold sweat, and standing in the open space, all her rapid breathing echoed.
Li Junyue gritted her teeth and took another step, then the world spun.
She no longer had the strength to hold on. Her eyes darkened, and she plunged to the side, fell on the slope, and rolled into the dense grass beside the slope.
Yet nobody knew anything about it.
In the early morning of Xinghua Village, the first ray of sunlight shone through the thin fog in the morning, awakening the vitality of the whole village.
Not long after dawn, the villagers’ voices ran in every household.
”Zhiqiu, let’s go up the mountain!” A villager shouted outside the gate of the Liu family courtyard.
”I’m coming, wait a minute!” Liu Zhiqiu just finished washing up, ran into the kitchen and took two steamed buns from the pot.
”Come back early for lunch!” his mother in the house reminded him.
”Got it!” He shouted in response, and accompanied the villagers waiting at the door to Xinghua Ridge.
His grandparents and his uncle and aunt were absent, so the manpower of their family was not enough. There was too much work in the fields, so the villagers spontaneously lent their hands.
During this period, Liu Zhiqiu and other villagers have been busy with the work in Xinghua Ridge.
Liu Erlin and Du Juan, on the other hand, went to take care of the rice fields and the medicine fields by the Qinghe River.
”Did an ox cart from the village go to town last night?” Liu Zhiqiu asked casually after dividing the steamed buns among his companions.
