Chapter 474: Don’t Come Here in the Future, Get Out!
”Dream? How dare I dream,” Li Junyue’s eyes passed through Kang Ziyu and fell to the unknown distance. Her sight was unfocused, seemingly talking to herself and seemingly self-deprecating. “Miss Kang recommended a respectable family to the Li family. Grandmother is in charge of everything, and I won’t have any choice.”
The mockery on the woman’s face stung Kang Ziyu’s eyes, making her breath choke.
For some reason, it sounded weak.
She pursed her lips, turned around and left.
Li Junyue was bewitched. She disliked a respectable high official’s family. Did she really like that Liu Zhiqiu, that peasant?
She was still young, and had no measure in a lot of things. Matriarch Li would never let her mess around.
In the house, Li Junyue’s vacant eyes recovered and fell on her palm, which had been bloody blistered. However, even the traces of it were no longer visible.
Slowly clenching her palms together, Li Junyue laughed beneath her breath, bitter.
Everyone thought that she wanted to marry into a powerful family.
All thought she wanted to rely on money power to raise her chin high.
”Wealth and power? There’s but one I want ——”
”What is it, my good sister?” A sneering voice sounded from outside the door, and the bright and beautiful woman walked in with her lips raised and her eyes gloomy.
”Junyue greets Elder Sister.”
”I can’t afford your politeness,” Li Junhua sneered as she stared at Li Junyue. “I ended up lying on the bed for half a month after Fifth Sister pushed me that day. Even now, my body and bones have not fully recovered.”
Li Junyue said nothing and raised her eyes to face her.
”Fifth Sister, you’re quite the tactful one. I really underestimated you in the past. Crying in front of my grandmother made me lose the opportunity to complain about my grievances. It’s a pity that Grandma thought there’s something going on between you and the Liu family, plus it happened that the news of Liu Zhixia’s becoming the Number One Scholar came, that’s why she let you slip away unpunished. Otherwise, did you think you could really succeed muddling through? Grandma knows all about it!”
”Elder Sister, you came all the way here to tell me this. Why?”
One ever goes to the temple for no reason
For so many years, Li Junhua had never set foot in the courtyard of the third family branch. So now that she had dropped by, it was absolutely impossible that she came to catch up with her and express her sisterly love.
”I’m here to help you.” Li Junhua smiled brightly, but the cold, sinister sparkle bursting out of her eyes resembled a venomous snake seizing its prey. “Don’t you want to enter the Liu family? I’ll give you a chance/ I’ll take your place in this marriage. As long as I succeed, before Miss Kang finds you a second husband, you can still have some time to mediate. Maybe you can really get what you want, what do you think?
”Elder Sister, did you fall in love with Meng Yushan?”
”He’s powerful and talented, and indeed a good match. Unfortunately, he falls short in your eyes, Fifth Sister. I lack the same vision as you, but we can each take what we want.”
Li Junyue fell silent.
The Li family dinner was very lively. The distinguished guests got seated, accompanied by the children of the Li family. The atmosphere was pretty harmonious.
By the time the banquet ended, it was already in the middle of the night, and the distinguished guests were arranged to stay in the Li family’s guest rooms.
Early the next morning, a scream came from the guest rooms, breaking the calm of the Li residence in the early morning.
The commotion was so great, but Li Junyue did not bother to have a look.
There were only so many means available.
Drunkenness, sexual misconduct.
In order to marry into a prestigious family, the girls of the Li family each had the means to perform.
Not clever, but it worked.
In the end, there was no need for her to ask for the results. Anyway, it wouldn’t be long before someone would automatically jump in front of her to taunt her. What should be known would always be known.
Half an hour or so later, Third Madam Li came sobbing and weeping to her.
”It has been so easy to stumble upon such a good family. They’re already in your hands, but how did it suddenly end up like this?! My poor daughter, why is your life so bitter?! It’s not enough that the main branch has been oppressing us for so many years, but now they even want to steal your husband! What can we do now? In the future, even though you are the main wife, and Li Junhua could only be a noble concubine, she will always bully you and will not let you live in peace then. I’m certain she’ll torment you for life!”
Li Junyue’s eyes trembled: “Mother, what did you say?”
”Elder Madam is afraid that the scandal will spread outside, so she set the marriage urgently. You’ll be married next month. When the time comes, you and your elder sister will marry at the same time! Luckily, Mr. Meng really likes you and refused to give in, so you at least have the position of the main wife. Otherwise, Li Junhua will really have her way. That bitch!”
Something seemingly exploded in Li Junyue’s head, causing her mind to go blank. Her face quickly lost its color, and she started trembling all over.
A few moments later, a woman’s sorrowful laughter rang out in the courtyard.
Kang Ziyu also visited. She originally wanted to go to Li Junyue to comfort her a bit. No one could have predicted that things would turn out this way. Who would have thought that Li Junhua would be so shameless? She even took the initiative to send herself to the room.
Fortunately, Meng Yushan’s stance remained firm. He must marry Li Junyue before he was willing to welcome Li Junhua into the family. Li Junhua would only be just a concubine after marriage, and this wouldn’t damage anything.
However, when she heard the laughter at the gate of the courtyard, Kang Ziyu stepped back and suddenly did not dare to enter.
She cowed looking at that laughing face.
After standing there for a while, she fled in haste.
With her mind in turmoil and confusion, she found herself in front of the Liu family compound again when she returned to her senses.
She couldn’t remember when she had ordered the carriage driver to come here.
Just as she was about to call the coachman to turn around and leave, she spotted a group of people ahead walking toward her with smiles. Liu Zhiqiu was walking in front, with a hoe on his shoulder.
His young face was soaring with enthusiasm, and his smile was purer and cleaner than the sunlight that sprinkled down.
Liu Zhiqiu separated from his companions in front of the house, directly entered the courtyard, during which he only glanced at the carriage, without even greeting her.
”Liu Zhiqiu!” He didn’t want to see her, yet she insisted on appearing in front of him.
She initially planned to leave, but now she changed her mind. She got off the carriage, followed behind, and entered the courtyard gate.
”If you have something to say, or if you have some business here, leave. My family can’t afford to entertain a spoiled guest.” The man put down his hoe and washed his face with water, without even sparing her a glance.
”You!” Kang Ziyu calmed her anger and grievances, took a stool and sat down by herself, and then narrated what happened in the Li residence, “Can she not tell good from bad? Am I not doing this for her own good? Who knew that her sister would do such a thing? How dare she use dirty tricks to steal her sister’s fiance?! But it was an accident. I can’t be blamed, right?”
After pouring the water from the basin to the corner of the courtyard wall, and wiping his hands, Liu Zhiqiu walked towards the woman. Under the surprised gaze of the woman, he picked her up and threw her out the door.
”Liu Zhiqiu! What are you doing?!” Kang Ziyu blushed. She had never been so embarrassed before. She was actually carried and thrown out the door!
”Don’t ever come here again in the future, get out!” The man’s clear black eyes suddenly flared, making Kang Ziyu tremble.
”What do you mean by that?! What did I do wrong?” After thinking about what she said just now, Kang Ziyu looked at Liu Zhiqiu. “Do you think I’m nosy too? I told you I was being kind, and it’s not like I could have predicted all the things that happened afterward—”
