FID – Chapter 325

The two men immediately looked toward the town.

A carriage came galloping through the noisy street market.

“It must be Nannan who’s returning!” Liu Dalin was so excited that he raised his hand and shook it towards the approaching carriage, “Nannan! Nannan! It’s Father!”

“Aiyo! It must be Nannan!” Grandpa Liu also became excited.

They rarely saw carriages in this town, and it was heading towards Xinghua Village, plus it was also this time of the day. Who else could it be but their Nannan?

When Liu Yusheng heard a faint shout, her heart skipped, and she immediately lifted the curtain of the carriage. She spotted the two people calling from the ox cart at the entrance of the town, one of them was holding a big pig’s hoof!

Father! Grandfather!

“Grandpa! Dad!” Liu Yusheng stuck her head out of the window and responded cheerfully, not forgetting to inform the people inside the carriage. “Elder Brother, Grandpa and Dad are here to pick us up!”

Liu Zhixia smiled. “Grandpa and Dad are here to pick you up, I am only incidental.”

He retorted, but he immediately told the coachman to stop beside the ox cart. When the carriage slowed down, he opened the carriage curtain and said, “Grandpa, Dad, you still came out on such a cold day.”

When the two people on the ox cart saw him, they questioned in surprise, “Why are you back?”

“…” He knew it. Grandpa and Dad didn’t even spare him a thought!

Fu Yuzheng looked at the man’s stiff profile, turned her head aside, and covered her mouth to snicker.

Xue Qinglian peeled the stricken Liu Zhixia away from behind. “Grandpa, Uncle Liu, I’m back too.”

“Great, you’re all back for the New Year!” Liu Dalin nodded at him indiscriminately, and immediately looked at his daughter. “Nannan, have you rushed all the way? Was it freezing on the road? You must have suffered. It’s all Axiu’s fault!…”

The old man smacked him on the head. “What are you talking so much for? Hurry up and let’s get Nannan home. It’s freezing! Drive the ox cart! Watch the things on the cart.”

After leaving instructions, he got off the ox cart and climbed up to the carriage.

“Father, are you not going to drive back with me?”

“Aren’t you there to drive the cart? Is there a need for two people to drive a cart? Don’t you know the way?”

“…”

Liu Yusheng’s eyes bent from smiling. “Father, I miss you! Let’s go home first! I’ll wait for you at home!”

She retracted her head and helped their grandpa up together with Liu Zhixia. Then she got off the carriage to wrap her cloak around her father to block the wind.

While pulling the hood of his cloak up, she said, “I brought a lot of gifts back from the capital. Wait until we return home and then slowly share them. Father, when driving the cart later, don’t rush and slow down. Now that it’s cold, the road is frosty and dangerous. Safety first, all right?”

His depression from being abandoned by his own father just now was instantly cured. Liu Dalin smiled and nodded straight. “I know-I know. I’ll not rush and drive the cart steadily. Hurry ahead now. I will be home in a moment. Get on the carriage quickly!”

Looking at his daughter, her face turned red after coming down for a while.

Seeing the carriage galloping away, Liu Dalin prodded the cattle behind it, and the ox cart leisurely moved forward.

He was humming a short song that he heard, and the smile on his face never dissipated.

From time to time, he would pull on the cloak that protected him from the wind and felt warm deep inside.

He wasn’t in a hurry. He has to drive the ox cart slowly. Nannan said safety first.

He has to go home safely to his daughter!

In the carriage, the old man warmed himself in the little stove. He glanced at the good little granddaughter nestled beside him, and the smile folds on his face never disappeared.

Fu Yuzheng met the old man when he boarded. Knowing that she was a guest at home for the New Year, he greeted her straight away.

“Our Nannan is good-natured, but she has few good friends. If she can invite you, it shows that she really treats you as a friend. You don’t have to be restrained at home and just make yourself at home!”

“I will, Grandpa Liu,” Fu Yuzheng replied with a smile.

“Our Nannan hasn’t been wronged in the capital, right? She is too far away from home, and we can’t see her. Has anyone bullied her?”

“The King protected Miss Liu, so no one dares to bully her.”

“That’s good, wonderful.” The old man nodded his head with a smile.

He’s been talking about “Our Nannan” the whole time, that Liu Zhixia, who was sitting next to him sighed softly.

He was the worthless carrot.

From the time Grandpa got on the carriage, he didn’t even glance at him. The status of a scholar in their family was not much higher.

Xue Qinglian, who was also left out in the cold, patted him on the shoulder and sighed. “We’re sailing in the same boat, Brother!”

Fu Yuzheng again stifled a laugh.

The old man was sitting across from her with the young girl snuggled up next to him. Although the old man has been talking to her after getting on the carriage, all that came out from his mouth was Nannan. It was all about his little granddaughter.

There was also Liu Yusheng. She didn’t disturb the old man talking, but her eyes were on him. She was filled with the joy of seeing her family, adoring him as a child would its parents.

This kind of affection made Fu Yuzheng envious.

The carriage galloped very fast. Within half an hour, the silence outside the carriage gradually stirred with some noise. This was the boundary of the village.

Liu Yusheng happily opened a corner of the curtain and looked out. Not far in front of the village entrance was Xinghua Village. The towering ancient acacia tree was the most palpable landmark.

But since it was winter ,the leaves of the tree have fallen off, leaving only the bare branches.

But it still made Liu Yusheng feel that unusual warmth – the breath of home.

There were many people under the ancient acacia tree, both young and old. They should have returned from the market and were temporarily resting, so they have not had time to go home.

The New Year’s Eve was approaching, and every family was rushing to buy New Year’s Eve goods.

There were also two ox carts under the tree, which were continuously unloading stuff.

Since the village became rich, the Li family was busy with their business of burning wine jars and no longer used ox carts to drive people.

The villagers had spare money in their hands, so many people also purchased ox carts. It was convenient for travel, and it could also be used to plow the fields in their farming time.

The sound of horseshoes attracted the attention of the people there. They turned their heads to look, and once they saw the carriage, someone yelled out before they could see who was in the carriage. “Oh, it’s a carriage! Aunt Liu, it must be Nannan who has returned!”

At the back of the crowd, an old woman squeezed out. She stared right ahead and wrinkles unfolded on her face as she shouted, “Nannan, you’ve come home!”

“Grandma! I’m back!” Liu Yusheng opened the curtain of the carriage all the way, and also raised her voice to answer.

When people in the village saw her, they all laughed. “As soon as I saw the carriage, I knew it was Nannan. You’ve finally come back. Your grandmother has been waiting here for a long time. The bamboo-basket brazier has gone out twice, but she refused to leave. She just had to wait for you!”

The carriage stopped and Grandma Liu was pulled into the carriage. Liu Yusheng addressed the village neighbors next to the tree, “Uncles, Aunts, we’ll head home first, and I will pay my New Year’s respects to you later! Leave some good things at home and wait for me!”

“Okay, we’ll be waiting for you! I’ll save you some good food!”

The crowd happily replied and watched the carriage head for the Liu courtyard.

After the carriage had gone far away, the joking and talking in the back continued, the topic of conversation revolving around Lucky Nannan.
