FID – Chapter 274

That one in the palace definitely had a role in it!
Otherwise, who has the guts to torture the maidservant of the Nanling Palace like this, and, or the “benefactor” of the Nanling King!

Feng Qingbai was also obviously aware of this, so from the beginning to the end, he did not show any emotion.

Lu Zhixia noticed their exchange, and his eyes darkened.

He was not stupid. Even without them speaking, he also immediately guessed.

It was the sordidness between the powerful and the noble again!

It was just a fight between noblemen. Why should an innocent woman be involved and hurt to this extent?!

Closing his eyes and covering his face with both hands, Liu Zhixia took several deep breaths before he could barely suppress the questioning that almost came out of his mouth.

He knew that things would not be as simple as he thought.

It was a place he couldn’t touch yet.

He put down his hand and cast his gaze into the room through the door. The woman’s cold and slightly alienated face emerged in his mind.

She must be in agonizing pain. Even a big man like him probably couldn’t endure such heavy injuries.

How did she endure and walk back to the royal residence?

“Brother, you came back so late back, so you should not have had dinner yet. Go and eat something, then sleep. Come here tomorrow to visit. By then, Miss Fu should also be awake,” Liu Yusheng said.

Liu Zhixia nodded. She was still unconscious, and sticking here was to no avail.

Having seen with his own eyes the bloody ruthlessness of the power struggle, he was also in great shock. He needed some time and space to calm down.

In the future he would go down this road, so he would have to learn to accept and get used to it.

After watching Liu Zhixia leave, Liu Yusheng turned to Feng Qingbo and said, “You also go to rest. For the follow up, the least relaxed should be you.”

“There’s no harm. You have to look after her, and there is no way I can sleep well tonight. I will accompany you,” Feng Qingbai gently replied as he lifted his hand and caressed the fair cheek of the young girl.

Consort Liu’s action this time was unobtrusive and amounted to a warning in disguise.

She sent Fu Yuzheng to the royal residence, but when an accident happened to the Zuo family in her presence, she didn’t help Zuo Xuan. That in itself made her guilty of a crime to Consort Liu.

It was a matter of her own interest. Consort Liu would never allow anyone to destroy her relationship with the prime minister in any way.

Without the help of the prime minister, she would only be beaten back to her original form.

So even if she was afraid of the Nanling Palace, she must teach this lesson.

While teaching Fu Yuzheng, she was also making her position clear to the prime minister. It was even a warning to Feng Qingbai not to stretch his hands too far.

Fu Yuzheng’s identity as a double agent has long been known to Consort Liu. It was just short of tearing the layer of window paper.

Liu Yusheng failed to drive away Feng Qingbai, and for this clingy person, she couldn’t drive away.

It was inappropriate for men to enter her room.

So they both stood guard at the door.

Feng Qingbai leaned on the pillars under the eaves of the corridor, while she leaned against Feng Qingbai’s arms. They snuggled with each other.

When she got tired, she closed her eyes and took a nap, and if there was any movement in the room, the man would wake her up.

The woman’s breathing in Feng Qingbai’s arms quietly settled. She should be very sleepy. Feng Qingbai lowered his head, lovingly kissed the woman’s forehead. He changed positions without disturbing her and  picked her up horizontally, so that she could sleep more comfortably in his arms.

Then he nodded towards the shadows and asked a shadow guard to call a maid who was transferred from the manor to come and serve in the room.

When dawn was about to break, a slight movement came from the room. The maid came out without daring to look up and subconsciously lowered her voice to the lowest level, “Your Royal Highness, Miss Fu is about to wake up.”

“Retreat.”

The maid bowed her head and left.

Only after leaving the courtyard did she pat her chest and look back.

She was scared to death.

The king was really good to Miss Liu. He surprisingly just held her all night.

Liu Yusheng was disturbed by the itchy touch on her face and stirred  up.

Just as she opened her eyes, her still drowsy eyes found that the sky was surprisingly gray. Only then did she snap awake.

She fell asleep!

“Don’t worry, she’s not awake yet. It should be just right if you go in now.”

Feng Qingbai put the woman down gently. Liu Yusheng then realized that he had actually carried her up after she fell asleep.

She pursed her lips and reached out to massage his arm and relieve his soreness. “Idiot, don’t you know how to find a place to sit down either?”

“I like to hug you like this.” Because he liked her, he was willing.

Liu Yusheng blushed. She was shy but also distressed.

“I’ll go in and look after Miss Fu. Go back to your room and get a good night’s sleep. Don’t refuse, or I’ll ignore you.” He would have to attend the morning court session later. If he were to sleep, it would be brief.

He was obviously a shrewd man, but he sometimes did clumsy things that distressed her.

She had to wonder if he did it on purpose.

This time the man didn’t get stubborn with her again and held her hand in his palm. “I’ll come back at noon to accompany you for lunch.”

“Mmm.” The young girl answered him, looking so good.

She was so well behaved that it tickled his heart.

He wanted to see this look after standing all night, and he saw it.

The man turned back and left.

Liu Yusheng entered the room and found that the bed curtain was hooked up, and the woman on the bed was really the same as Feng Qingbai guessed. She just opened her eyes and woke up.

Fu Yuzheng’s vision went from dazed to clear, and was stunned to see the young girl walking to her.

Scanning the room again, it was clearly the girl’s boudoir.

She had been brought back and was lying on her bed.

“How do you feel? Does your wound still hurt that much?”

Fu Yuzheng looked at the young girl in a daze, reacting somehow slowly.

Had she not mentioned it, she would have forgotten that she had injuries on her back.

“…It doesn’t hurt anymore.” She pulled the corner of her lips and smiled, her voice so dumb and completely changed.

“I gave you medicine last night. Your wounds have started to scab, and it may itch afterwards, so don’t scratch it, lest you get a scar.”

The young lady said, while pouring a glass of water. Then she took out a white cotton ball from her medical kit, dipped it in water and pressed it on her lips.

Some of the cooled water soon moistened her dry and cracked lips. With water spilling into her mouth, she subconsciously swallowed to relieve the dryness in her throat.

“First, moisten your throat. Don’t drink water directly and lie on your stomach. It’s easy to tear the scabs on your back that have just formed. I will feed you medicine again later, and if you are thirsty at half an hour intervals, I will give you water.”

Fu Yuzheng’s eyes partly drooped. “Mm.”

After a pause, she said, “Thank you.”

She was thanking her for taking care of her when she was injured.

“What are you thanking me for? You were injured, and to say the least, it’s still my fault. I won’t apologize to you and don’t thank me either, okay?”

Fu Yuzheng was shocked again. So she actually knew her identity.

Right, the King should not hide anything from her.

“Okay?” Not hearing her answer, the young girl cocked her head and asked once more.

Fu Yu Zheng smiled to herself, “You should look down on me.”

The young girl squatted down in front of her and looked her straight in the eyes. “Fu Yuzheng, you’re great. I like you a lot.”

“……” The young girl’s eyes were bright, clear, and frank, so real that she felt ashamed of herself.

Fu Yuzheng wanted to raise the corners of her mouth and pull a polite smile.

But tears welled up in her eyes before she could smile, soaking the pillowcase, drop by drop.
