SSB – Chapter 20.2

After a while, Sang Yan suddenly tossed a piece of soft candy over and said, “Have some candy.”

It landed neatly on Sang Zhi’s thigh.

Sang Zhi instinctively lowered her gaze, silently looking at the piece of candy before picking it up. Their taste in candy was somewhat similar; they both liked this brand of soft candy.

There were nine pieces in the package.

Usually, she would take five, and Sang Yan would take four.

Sang Zhi glanced at Sang Yan.

He didn’t look in her direction, his gaze fixed on the window, seeming a bit weary. This unexpected offering of candy felt like a concession and an expression of apology at the same time.

  Unspoken apologies between family members.

After a while, Sang Zhi suddenly asked, “Brother, did you go to buy candy just now?”

”What are you thinking?” Sang Yan’s eyelids drooped, and he didn’t even glance at her. “I just grabbed it.”

Sang Zhi didn’t say anything. She lowered her head, tore open the packaging, and poured out the nine pieces of candy from inside. Then, she picked up four pieces, leaned over to Sang Yan’s side, and placed the candy in his palm.

  Sang Yan’s fingers twitched.

As if not noticing, he continued with his previous motion. After a few seconds, Sang Zhi took two pieces from her own five and gave them to him as well.

Using the same gesture as he did.

With these two candies, she was conveying her message.

  One candy said, Thank you;

  The other said, I’m sorry.

  -

Sibling quarrels come and go quickly.

Once Sang Zhi’s anger passed, she didn’t stay silent anymore. After bottling up her words for a while, she spoke them all out at this moment, “You were already in the wrong to begin with. The moment I arrived, you started making fun of my height, mocking my uniform, and even saying I’m bad at long jump.”

Sang Yan sneered, “I hear you calling me ugly every day, what did I say?”

  ”That’s different.”

  ”How is it different?”

  ”I’m not saying anything false.”

  ”…”

Sang Yan couldn’t be bothered to respond to her.

Sang Zhi was leaning against the window, looking outside for a while, and soon idly called out, “Brother.”

  Sang Yan didn’t answer.

Sang Zhi: “Why did you decide to volunteer today?”

  ”…”

”Are you trying to participate in more activities,” Sang Zhi pondered, “and get to know more girls to increase your chances of getting a girlfriend?”

  Sang Yan’s forehead twitched.

”Then, Brother, I think you shouldn’t waste your time.”

  ”Shut up.”

”You should focus on studying and earning more money.”

Hearing her endless chatter, Sang Yan was getting annoyed and frowned, “I decided to be a volunteer, where do you get off having so much to say?”

Sang Zhi pulled her neck back and muttered, “I was just asking.”

”You’re not usually this concerned about me, are you?”

”Well, I don’t usually see you.” Sang Zhi said matter-of-factly, “Now that I’ve seen you, it’s rare to have a chance, so I thought I’d show some care.”

This Little Devil was persistent; no matter how he responded, it seemed useless.

Sang Yan sighed, and in a dismissive tone, he said, “Short-staffed. Chen Junwen is the head of the Sports Department, and he just put down the names of the other three people in our dorm.”

Having gotten an answer, Sang Zhi finally quieted down. Her lips twitched, and she had wanted to ask about Duan Jiaxu, but after hesitating for a long time, she didn’t ask anything.

After a while, Sang Yan suddenly spoke up, “Daughter?”

  Sang Zhi: “?”

But it seemed like he wasn’t talking to her; he half-closed his eyes and mumbled, “Duan Jiaxu, your brother?”

Sang Zhi looked at him subtly. “What’s up with you?”

Sang Yan touched his chin and continued to mutter to himself, “It’s fine, too.”

  ”…”

  Nutcase.

  -

After going to the hospital for a check-up, it was confirmed that there was nothing serious. After re-treating the wound, Sang Yan sent Sang Zhi back home. Once Li Ping returned home, he went back to school.

After the school sports event, the weekend arrived.

Sang Zhi rested at home for two days, but her walking was still not very smooth. Sang Rong and Li Ping had to go to work, so they thought of Sang Yan, who was in his third year of college and seemingly free in all aspects.

Sang Yan ended up taking on the role he used to have before Sang Zhi reached her third year.

He would pick her up from school and bring her back home every day.

At first, Sang Zhi wasn’t very happy about it.

But later, Sang Zhi realized that Sang Yan seemed even less willing than she was. Every time he came to pick her up, he had a dark and unhappy expression on his face. And so, she became willing once again.

It was on a Friday after school.

Because Sang Yan was only available after 5 p.m., Sang Zhi stayed in the classroom as usual to do her homework. There were still a few classmates left around, cleaning up the classroom.

Not long after, someone called out to her, “Sang Zhi, someone’s looking for you.”

Sang Zhi immediately looked up from her pile of homework and was surprised to see Yin Zhenru, whom she hadn’t seen for some time, standing at the doorway. She blinked and got up and approached her: “Why are you here?”

Yin Zhenru only noticed her foot at this point. “What’s wrong with your foot?”

  ”I twisted it.”

”Why weren’t you more careful?” Yin Zhenru frowned. “Does it hurt?”

Sang Zhi shook her head. “Not much anymore.”

The two of them hadn’t spoken for quite some time, and it felt a bit unfamiliar at this moment.

Yin Zhenru scratched her head and remained quiet for a moment before hesitatingly saying, “Sang Zhi, can you accompany me somewhere?”

Sang Zhi was taken aback: “Huh?”

”Just, I have something….” Yin Zhenru, just like in the past, playfully shook Sang Zhi’s arm. “Just come with me, I don’t want to go alone.”

”Go where?” Sang Zhi asked, “I’m still waiting for my brother.”

  ”Why is your brother coming?”

”To pick me up and take me home,” Sang Zhi honestly said, “Because I injured my foot.”

Yin Zhenru: “I see you’re walking just fine.”

  Sang Zhi didn’t say anything.

”Come on.” Yin Zhenru playfully shook her hand again. “I won’t take you anywhere weird, I’m just bored. Let’s go nearby and have something to eat.”

Sang Zhi stared at her for a while before slowly nodding.

”I’ll let my brother know first.”

Sang Zhi returned to her seat, took out her phone from her backpack, and was about to call Sang Yan when he happened to call her. She answered the call, “Brother.”

Sang Yan: “Are you out yet?”

  ”Not yet.”

”Come out later,” Sang Yan said, “I have something to do today. I’ll have Duan Jiaxu come pick you up. He finishes class at 5:30. Wait a little longer.”

The author has something to say:

On the left hand is a friend, on the right hand is a crush, which one would you choose?

Sang Zhi: Huh? I’m right-handed, I don’t need the left hand.

Sang Zhi: Cut it off (domineering tone).
