IHWL – Chapter 85.2

The crowd did not disperse until midnight. Qin Qiu was finally carried back by his assistants. One person supported his head, and the other carried his feet. Qin Qiu hugged the bottle and did not let go, like a lonely dead dog.

Su Jishi was rather helpless. She staggered away from the yurt, stepped on the snow, and slowly but leisurely walked back to her yurt.

The New Year had arrived. In this remote town, there were no New Year’s bells and no firecrackers. There were only the stars in the sky, and the Altai Mountains stretching beneath it.

The cold air she inhaled into her lungs awakened her sleepy head.

Su Jishi thought for a moment and made a video call to her sister. The second the video was connected, the two sisters saw each other’s clothes and froze at the same time.

One of them was feeling the cold in the northern hemisphere, and the other was feeling the heat in the southern hemisphere. The temperature difference between the two sides was 80 degrees. Inside and outside the camera, they obviously had the same face, but their clothes were of two seasons.

Seeing her sister wrapped up like a polar bear, Su Jinqing couldn’t stop laughing.

Su Jishi said, “Stop laughing. If you laugh again, I’ll catch you and let you suffer.”

Su Jinqing quickly shut her mouth, but unfortunately, in front of her twin sister, she really didn’t have enough restraints to hold back her laughter.

Kakadu’s staff dormitory conditions weren’t up to standards. There was no air conditioning, and only a few old electric fans. In the video, Su Jinqing only wore a cool suspender jumpsuit, and her waist-length hair was wrapped behind her head with a hairpin. When she approached the camera, Su Jishi found that the hairpin still had green sprouts —— Which tree was it broken down from?

After not seeing her for a while, Su Jinqing’s complexion had improved a lot. Because she often worked outdoors, her skin was no longer the unhealthy snow white, but gradually turned into a beautiful wheatish color. Her face was ruddy, with patches of sunburn, but she looked energetic.

Su Jishi sighed enviously, “It’s only been a long time, and our skin tones have actually swapped!”

In just half a year’s time, the former wilderness expert Su Jishi was raised with a fine skin and tender flesh, while Snow White Su Jinqing grew into an explorer.

It could be imagined that on the day when the two sisters swapped, Ashan would fall into the hell of applying foundation to Su Jin’s whole body again.

“Sister, Happy  New Year…And, thank you.” Sister Jinqing sincerely said, “It’s been hard for you during this period. If you hadn’t carried Su Jin’s identity for me, I really don’t know what my current self would be like.”

Maybe she would have been caught back by the agency long ago, forced to continue playing that glamorous actress when her psychological problems had not yet been alleviated.

“What’s there to thank?” Su Jishi laughed and scolded, “Facing an identical face, you have the nerve to say sickening words.”

She was her sister —— This was engraved in the blood and bones of kinship. They were linked by blood, so even after 20 years of gap, it could never break this bond.

Across the ocean, the two girls looked at each other through the radio waves.

One gentle, the other spontaneous. But the smile on their faces was the same, bright and beautiful.

    Until ——

“Sister Su, I got you!!!” Xiao Xia popped out from nowhere, climbing Su Jishi’s shoulders to look into the phone, “Wooooo, I, Xiao Xia, am so touched! This is the first happy event on New Year’s Day. Sister Su, you finally learned how to take a selfie!!!”

Xiao Xia spouted: “Do you know how much your fans want to see you, ah?! Look at other starlets. On Weibo, Douyin, and Instagram, they took turns and sent selfies on each account! As for you, you don’t even have 500 photos in your album, except for cats and dogs, there’s nothing but emoticons…”

While talking, she curiously pointed to the screen and said, “Wow, what app are you using, Sister Su? How can you even change your clothes and hairstyle?”

    Su Jishi off screen: “…”

    Su Jinqing on screen: “…”

Su Jishi had a headache and reminded her, “Xiao Xia, don’t you find anything wrong with this ‘selfie app’?”

Xiao Xia was confused. She peered into the camera, then looked at Su Jishi and shook her head: “There’s nothing wrong, ah. Your nose is straight. Your eyes are big, and your face is small… Oh, I see! You didn’t turn on the filter, right?”

“…” Su Jishi wanted to knock her brains out. “Widen your eyes and look more carefully —— Are you on this screen???? “

Xiao Xia obediently looked. When she saw that Su Jin on the screen was next to her picture, her heart almost stood still in fright. She screamed two octaves higher: “Oh my God! Ghost!!! Su-Su-Sister Su, why aren’t you alone on the screen ah????”

    Su Jishi: “…”

Su Jinqing knew how silly and out of touch this assistant of hers was. She just didn’t expect her to be this stupid.

Su Jinqing asked her sister, “Did she drink?”

Su Jishi nodded: “I didn’t keep an eye on her. She drank a lot.”

Xiao Xia pointed at the screen and shouted, “Oh my god! The ghost on the screen spoke!!!”

    The Su sisters: “…”

It was so tiring to have such an assistant.

But with her gagging on the side, it stirred up the otherwise somewhat dull atmosphere.

Su Jishi was about to say goodbye to her sister when she suddenly heard a gruff, husky male voice coming from the other side of the camera: “Su Jinqing, the dumplings are cooked. Eat them while they’re hot.”

The familiar crew cut head wavered in front of the screen. Then Lin Yan came into view with a plate full of dumplings in one hand, chopsticks and a vinegar bottle in the other hand. He walked steadily and stopped in front of Su Jinqing.

When he saw Su Jishi in the section of the screen, he greeted calmly: “Sister, Happy Spring Festival.”

His Sister was quite smooth, making Su Jishi feel a little puzzled. But on second thought, he was her Sister’s colleague. There seemed to be no flaw to pick with him calling her Sister.

Su Jinqing blushed a little and said, “There are only two Chinese in the whole park, so this New Year’s Eve, only the two of us can spend it together.”

Su Jishi didn’t think much about it.

Seeing that her sister was going to eat, she said goodbye and ended the call. Then she carried her drunken assistant, stepped on the snow, and walked back to her yurt with deep and shallow tracks.

Xiao Xia was not thin. Drunk and with extraordinarily uncooperative moving limbs, Su Jishi moved her with extra difficulty.

Su Jishi thought, This New Year’s Eve, there is really no one more miserable than me.

    ……

Su Jishi thought wrong. This New Year’s Eve, her sister wasn’t having a good time either.

Su Jinqing didn’t know how to make dumplings, so this pot of dumplings, from mixing the filling to wrapping and putting them in the pot, it was all done by Lin Yan alone

Lin Yan served hot dumplings from the pot, set up bowls and plates on the table, poured vinegar and chili oil, and then handed one of the chopsticks to Su Jinqing, while directly holding the plate and eating.

He was reticent, but his eating speed was fast. From this point of view, he really looked like he came out of the military camp.

Su Jinqing tasted a dumpling and frowned slightly. Then she ate another one, and her brow furrowed even more.

This texture, why was it so strange…

Su Jinqing couldn’t help it and asked, “What kind of filling does this dumpling have?”

“Meat, ah,” Lin Yan replied succinctly.

“I know it’s meat.” Su Jinqing pursued, “I am asking what kind of meat.”

    “Roo meat.”

Su Jinqing, “Kangaroo meat???” She was confused, “Why would you make dumplings with kangaroo meat?”

Lin Yan was even more confused than her, “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to eat crocodile meat?”

    Su Jinqing: “…”

Where on earth did this 24K gold straight guy come from?

The author has something to say:

I used to think that kangaroos are Australia’s national treasure, just like pandas in China, and aren’t edible.

Consequently, I heard from my Australian friends that kangaroo meat is available everywhere. I was dumbfounded…
