Chapter 57: Beauty Saves the Hero (Above)
Su Jishi and Mu Xiulun agreed to meet directly at the racecourse on the outskirts of the city.
Mu Xiulun was busy with business, and was a little late for twenty minutes. When he arrived, there were other jockeys on the grass field, taking the horses for their daily training. Mu Xiulun stood by the training field and looked for a circle, but did not see the girl.
After a moment’s thought, he took a step towards the stables.
The stable was large, and it was home to twelve prestigious retired champion horses. The bright sunlight cast through the skylight on the floor, cutting a beautiful crosshatch pattern. The spacious stables stood next to each other, with no odor in the room as they were cleaned daily. The horses heard footsteps and poked their heads out of the windows curiously, but when they saw that the visitor was not the rider they knew, they shrank back in disinterest.
In the deepest part of the stables was Linda Hu’s ‘boudoir’.
Linda Hu was the only lady in the stable, and its boudoir was beautifully decorated, with many flowers and plants in colorful paints on the outside walls, plus a row of ornamental potted plants placed under the windows.
The stables were never open to outsiders, yet now, a tall, slender figure was standing in front of the stables, holding a handful of hay in her arms and whispering something to Linda Hu.
The woman was dressed in a straight and slim riding outfit, her khaki equestrian pants outlining her beautiful hip and legs. She was wearing knee-high boots, shiny black leather boots.
She fed the horse while stroking its chin, her bony fingers tracing its thick, fan-like lashes. Linda Hu blinked rather unaccustomed and gamely inclined its head, resting its chin on the woman’s shoulder.
Mu Xiulun looked at the woman and the horse, stunned, and it took him a long time to call out to her: “…Su Jin?”
Hearing his voice, the woman looked back —— her eyes bent, and the corners of her mouth still held a smile as she said, “You’re here.”
“How did you …” Mu Xiulun’s eyes fell on her, slowly sliding down her sultry, sharp riding outfit. His eyes lingered abruptly on those riding boots for a few seconds, and he didn’t know what came to him, but he quickly averted his gaze.
He stuck his eyes somewhere and deliberately said, “Listening to your tone, people who don’t know would have thought that you are Linda Hu’s master, and that I am rather like the guest.”
Discerning the edge in his tone, Su Jishi immediately understood. She asked, “Are you jealous?”
The inexplicably guilty Mu Xiulun: “…”
Su Jishi was oblivious to President Mu’s unfathomable thoughts and teased him again, “Are you jealous of me?”
“…” Mu Xiulun’s face turned blue, and he squeezed out a few words between gritted teeth, “Yes, I’m jealous of you.”
How absurd! Not only did he have a horse girlfriend, but now he was jealous of his ex-girlfriend’s close relationship with his current girlfriend!
What was this called? He set foot in two boats, but as a result, the two boats had hooked up for a hundred years?
……
Mu Xiulun had an exclusive lounge in the racecourse and visited the place every once in a while to see Linda Hu. He went to the lounge to change into his riding outfit. When the same suit, breeches and boots were worn on him, they gave off a very different air.
He walked out of the stables with a horse whip in one hand and a helmet in the other. His suit was slightly tighter, outlining his toned arms. With a buckle tied around his waist, it was as if the muscles on his body would rip his clothes open with a big movement.
Su Jishi was walking her horse when she heard the movement behind her. She looked back, and upon seeing his attire, surprise flashed in her eyes.
Their equestrian outfits were in the same shade, both dark gray with silver edges, as if they had agreed upon it in advance.
Mu Xiulun took another bay-colored horse. It was a retired hot-blooded thoroughbred. It snorted proudly and stood up in its place, chewing the iron bit in its mouth with great excitement. Its big dark eyes were fervently fixed at the pasture.
Mu Xiulun patted the horse’s long neck and mounted his horse.
Su Jishi looked up. The sunlight was blinding, but she couldn’t blink.
The golden sunlight sprinkled in her hair, and like a fiery rose growing in the sunlight, a piercing gleam glinted in her eyes.
“Mu Xiulun, let’s race,” she called him by his name.
Mu Xiulun froze: “But Linda Hu is not a racing horse…” Linda Hu’s forte was dressage, and if she were to compete with the thoroughbred under him, she would definitely be at a disadvantage.
“I know.” The woman smiled brightly, without any hint of joking, “It’s okay.”
“Then I’ll give you a headstart.”
“No need.” Su Jishi said word for word, “But if I win, you have to promise me one thing.”
