IHWL – Chapter 55.2

Mu Xiulun was well-informed. Mrs. Mu found trouble with Su Jishi yesterday, and Mu Xiulun knew about it the next day.

Moreover, he not only knew that they met, but also knew precisely what they talked about and what tone of voice was used in which specific sentence. The spy he planted beside Mrs. Mu reported everything verbatim.

Gao Ling handed the document to Mu Xiulun. The man turned two pages. He obviously wanted to continue reading, but had to pretend disinterest, throwing it aside.

Gao Ling asked, “Mr. Mu, look at Miss Su there…do you need to thank her?”

“What for? No need,” Mu Xiulun said flatly, “Fortunately, she’s sensible.”

    Sensible?

Gao Ling thought, Su Jin is more than just ‘sensible’ in your heart. Mr. Mu, look at the corners of your mouth. It’s almost up to the sky.

After Gao Ling left, Mu Xiulun continued to bury his head in work for a while. He thought that the work documents in front of his desk could capture his focus. But unexpectedly, his hands moved on their own accord in the midst of his business.

Before he knew it, he had already picked up his phone and dialed the first speed dial number in his contacts.

    ……

When Su Jishi’s phone rang, she had just walked out of the TV station.

Because the mishap 《Wilderness Winner》encountered was no laughing matter, there was a lot of discussion about it online and offline. Even the big leader of a certain mysterious relevant department had issued a query, requiring the TV station to internally conduct a second assessment of the safety of the program. If the rectification was still unable to calm the public’s doubts, then the variety show was likely to be aborted.

The people in the TV station were scared and going bald with worry. They spent a fortune on the copyright of this program, and invited teams from South Korea and the United States at a sky high price. It was going to be a hit variety show in the first quarter of next year! The schedule had been set, and the first batch of investment promotion had been completed. If the show was suddenly stopped at this time, their losses couldn’t be measured with money.

As soon as the Chief Director and Chief Screenwriter returned home, they were stuck in a small dark room all night, writing accident reports; the several artists were also invited to the TV station and interviewed one by one by the Executive Producer to appease the artists on the one hand and confirm whether the artists could continue to cooperate on the other.

As everyone had expected, among the five artists, Mr. Wei Jing decided to quit for the right reason: he had just become a dad. If he went to any dangerous area next time and died, what would happen to his wife and child?

Yan Changhui and Chen Gangyu also showed varying degrees of hesitation. They were there to earn money, and not to fight for their lives. This time, they were lucky enough to return home alive, but what about the next time?

As for Qin Qiu…Newborn calves weren’t afraid of tigers. He thought the program was very exciting and wanted to continue to participate. However, his agency disagreed with letting their golden egg take risks and pointed to the ‘breach of contract’ clause in the contract. But the Executive Producer found that the original intention of the agency was to raise the pay.

The first four artists were acting so uncooperative, so the Executive Producer had even less hope for Su Jin.

In terms of fame, she was the biggest gold lettered character in the investment promotion conference; in terms of ability, if she didn’t turn the tide, the program group wouldn’t have gotten out of trouble smoothly…

The Executive Producer  had made sufficient psychological preparations. Unexpectedly, his conversation with Su Jin was the smoothest.

Su Jishi only said three sentences from beginning to end.

“Shoot ah, why not continue to shoot?”

“Dangerous? It is also dangerous to shoot in the city and encounter punks, robbing you, ah.”

“My agency’s opinion? Since I don’t have an opinion, they wouldn’t dare to have one.”

Executive Producer: “…” The Executive Producer shouted with tears in his eyes and from the bottom of his heart, Thank you,Sister Su!

As Su Jishi was saying goodbye to the program group, her phone rang.

Her phone was with Xiao Xia, so Su Jishi asked, “Who’s calling?”

Xiao Xia looked at the screen and was surprised to find that the screen actually showed Mu Xiulun’s name!

As the CP fan, she was suddenly hit in the face by this candy and excitedly stammered, “It’s Mu, Mu, Mu…”

But there were outsiders around, and it was inappropriate for her to utter the name. She could only stare helplessly, squeezing her mouth into a pout anxiously, and mouthed to Su Jishi.

Su Jishi was filled with question marks: “…Why are you giving me flying kisses?”

Xiao Xia: “…” She had no choice but to hand the phone to her covertly.

When Su Jishi looked at the screen and saw that it was Mu Xiulun, her encounter yesterday when Mrs. Mu used money to ‘insult’ her and got ‘insulted’ in return flashed back in her mind.

She guessed that Mu Xiulun was probably looking for her for the same reason.

The ringing stopped after a while. Su Jishi waited until she left the TV station before finding a chance to return the call.

Mu Xiulun answered in almost seconds.

Su Jishi just said “Hello”, when the man asked straightforwardly, “Did my foster mother give you a hard time yesterday?”

Su Jishi replied, “Mr. Mu is really well-informed.” She laughed, “Guess why she looked for me yesterday.”

Mu Xiulun even knew the tone of voice and movement when they spoke, but still feigned ignorance and asked along with her, “What did she want to see you about?”

Su Jishi: “She gave me ten million, saying I was not good enough for you, and asked me to leave you.”

Mu Xiulun: “…” He silently took the report document beside the table and flipped through it. The content on it in black and white and Su Jishi’s answer were completely opposite.

Su Jishi only heard a rustle on the other end of the phone, but she did not care and instead teased him: “Guess how I answered?”

“I guess you said the money was too little and didn’t agree.”

“That’s not true.” Su Jishi smiled and said into the microphone, “I said you were deeply in love with me, deep in love, and I couldn’t afford to let down your heart.”

Mu Xiulun: “…” He rebuked with a chuckle, “Nonsense.”

However, listening to his tone, why didn’t it sound like it was ‘nonsense’?

The two grumbled to each other for a while, talking about everything without a fixed topic.

Su Jishi asked him if he had returned to China.

    Mu Xiulun answered, “No, why?”

Su Jishi: “Oh, nothing. I just miss my boyfriend.”

    Mu Xiulun: “…?!”

    Su Jishi reminded him, “Hammer.”

    Mu Xiulun: “…”

Su Jishi: “My hammer has always been with you. If you don’t return to China, how am I going to get it back?”

Only then did Mu Xiulun vaguely recall that Su Jishi did still have a small steel hammer left in his car. He had said several times that he would return it to her, but never found the opportunity to do so.

He laughed at himself for thinking too much. He and Su Jishi were only in a contract relationship. Even though their contract ended, they could always meet by chance, but that didn’t mean anything.

Mu Xiulun flipped through his work calendar on his desk and set a time: “Next week then…I’ll see you next week at the racecourse. I haven’t visited Linda Hu in a long time, either.”
