IHWL – Chapter 53.1

Chapter 53: Su Jinqing’s Diary

After a long eleven-hours flight, the group finally returned to the embrace of the motherland the next morning. Su Jishi slept comfortably on the plane and was in exceptionally good spirits.

The plane doors opened, and the unique haze smell belonging to the capital city greeted them in the cold wind.

Inside the lounge bridge, several agents were waiting there in advance, and when they saw the artists coming out, they immediately swarmed like wild bees around them.

“Sister Su!” Fang Xie rushed in first. He stopped in front of Su Jishi and pulled her, examining her carefully several times, fearing that she might have bumped or hurt herself somewhere. “I’m glad you’re back without a hitch!”

Su Jishi smiled: “Do not worry. Xiao Xia and I were in no danger.”

“What!” Xiao Xia immediately exposed her lie and pranced around Fang Xie, recounting all the crisis situations at that time.

She started with Su Jishi’s performance on the deserted island, and then talked about how Su Jishi discovered the volcanic eruption and decided to escape with everyone in the nick of time. She narrated vividly, with rich expressions and body movements, like a primary school student doing a debriefing performance on International Children’s Day.

In the end, she rounded up with a sincere, over-the-top praise —— “If it weren’t for Sister Su, I, Xiao Xia, would have turned into little pieces!”

Because of the poor signal before, Fang Xie wasn’t sure exactly what happened, and he could only piece together the situation of the disaster that befell them from the news reports. Only now did he realize that what actually happened was even more dramatic than he had imagined.

“Stop, stop, stop,” Su Jishi hurriedly interrupted Xiao Xia’s speech, “There’s nothing to brag about. It’s all in the past.”

But Xiao Xia’s eyes widened: “Where has it gone? This is something I will remember for the rest of my life! Sister Su don’t worry, when I’m old, from little Xia to old Xia, I will still tell my grandson the legend of ‘Sister Su leaping over the volcano to save 36 people’!”

    Su Jishi: “…”

The group talked as they walked out.

Su Jishi glanced sideways at the bodyguards surrounding her and asked, “Why are there so many people here?”

She had experienced fan pickups before, and the standard was usually four to six security personnel to protect her in all four directions, from south and east, to north and west, with the remaining two on standby. Surprisingly, on their return home this time, Fang Xie actually brought eight bodyguards in one breath, the number was more or less the same as other artists. The black-clad group of bodyguards surrounded them as they walked out, and as far as the eye could see, there were people all in black suits and shades.

The second they were about to step out of the reception hall, Fang Xie took a deep breath and whispered, “——Wear your sunglasses.”

    “Wh…?”

The next second, the induction door opened with a sound, and an overwhelming stream of cheers surged in!

Blinding flashes surrounded them from all sides and unending shutters rang out. Even though Su Jishi was psychologically prepared, she was still stunned by the enthusiasm of the fans.

How many people had gathered in the airport?…Three thousand? Four thousand? No, definitely more than that!

Dozens of security guards were called in to form a wall of people holding hands to separate the excited fans. Fans, rushing at the front, held hand banners and gifts, while those standing in the back row held neon signs aloft. Looking up, even the railing of the second and third floors were filled with fans eagerly waiting. Crowds of people shouted the names of their idols, and some even shed tears of excitement.

This overseas encounter had touched everyone’s heart. Even though the program group announced that the artists were uninjured, the fans could not let go without seeing them with their own eyes, knowing that they are not only their idols. They were not only their idols, but also their wives, husbands, daughters and sons.

Under the escort of bodyguards, the group struggled to squeeze to exit. A short road of a few dozen meters took them half an hour to walk through.

“Sweetie! Mom is over here. Look at your Mommy, ah, Baby!!” A sobbing cry erupted out of nowhere.

Su Jishi looked around and asked, “Are there too many people? Whose child is lost?”

“…” The tips of Qin Qiu’s ears turned red. How embarrassing. “Sister Su, you misunderstood. Those are my fans. They are good at everything, but they’re just motherly.”

Su Jishi: “…” She complimented, “Not bad. I have yet to feel motherly love.”

After a while, they heard a gruff male voice from the back row: “Unnie, you’ve lost weight! You must take care of your health, oh! Love you, love you, love you!”

‘Unnie’ was the Korean word for older sister.

The man who shouted was a male fan of Chen Gangyu. When she heard the shout, she smiled and gave him a heart.

After a few steps, a small group of fans suddenly shouted, “Father-in-law! Father-in-law!!! Little Xiao Kun was crying during the live broadcast yesterday. He was too worried about you!”

Yan Changhui didn’t raise his head, but waved his hand perfunctorily, saying, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay, okay.”

    Su Jishi was confused: “Father-in-law?”

Yan Changhui: “Um, I took my son on a variety show last year. I didn’t expect my son to attract more fans than me, and they all want to be my daughter-in-law.”

Su Jisi: “But if my memory serves me right, your son is only eight years old, ah.”

Yan Changhui: “They said they could wait for my son for ten years.”

    Su Jishi: “…” Amazing.

Su Jishi had never interacted with so many artists at the same time before. She had long heard of the diversity of fans, but she never expected to have the honor to witness the miracle today.

Just when they were about to walk out of the airport, a shy and timid murmur came from beside them: “…Husband, I will always support you!”

Su Jishi grinned ear to ear and said to Wei Jing, “Teacher Wei Jing, look, it’s your ‘wife fan’!”

Who would have thought that Wei Jing would hurriedly wave his hand and shake his head repeatedly: “No, no, no, my wife is waiting for me at home. And if you just turn your head and look, whose fans are those?”

Su Jishi didn’t think much about it and followed the source of the sound —— only to see a young girl who looked like she had just reached adulthood outside the wall of people surrounded by bodyguards, holding up a light sign with the name ‘Su Jin’ on it. The little fan then shouted at Su Jishi as if she had gained infinite courage, “Husband, when will you marry me?”

    Su Jishi: “…”

    Just smile.

Su Jishi said, “When I earn enough bride price, I will marry you.”

The fan replied, “No need, no need; we can get married naked!”

    Su Jishi: “…”

When it came to pick-up lines, celebrities were no match for fans.

After everyone arrived home, work poured in non-stop. They were stuck in Indonesia for days, and the backlog of work piled up into a mountain, not to mention the media who came to keep up the heat.

Su Jishi ignored the schedule full of work plans, and instead set aside a day to go to her mother’s cemetery alone.

When Fang Xie learned of Su Jishi’s plan, he couldn’t hide the surprise on his face.

Su Jishi asked, “What’s the matter?”

“Uh, I thought you and your mother had a bad relationship, Sister Su. I didn’t expect…”

“We were indeed estranged,” Su Jishi said, “But I’ve been back home for so long. It’s time to pay my respects to her.”

While Xiao Xia was not around, Su Jishi asked him, “Tell me more about Su Jinqing and my mother.”

Frankly, there were lots of questions buried in her heart, and she had deliberately suppressed them before. She wanted to separate her life from her sister’s completely, but the phone she accidentally got made the long-suppressed doubts in her heart explode.

At her request, Fang Xie could only tell her everything he knew.

Fang Xie actually didn’t know much. Mother Su was suffering from breast cancer and was actively doing cancer treatment after detection. Unfortunately, Mother Su was weak, and her cancer soon relapsed. At that time, their only option available was targeted drugs. Back then, Su Jinqing just stepped into the entertainment circle. Unfortunately, she wasn’t given good opportunities when she debuted. She could only receive a meager fixed salary from the company every month. Later, she met Mu Xiulun in the Sun Village she frequented, so…
